For the most part, members of the Michigan State University chapter of Young Americans for Freedom are equal opportunity haters, spewing bigotry in the direction of anyone who isn’t white, heterosexual and Christian with more or less equal zeal — except for the Jews. Although MSU-YAF dabbled in anti-Semitism last fall by hosting British National Party chairman and Holocaust denier Nick Griffin, the student hate group has never blatantly targeted Jews.

Until now.

Last week, MSU student Kyle Bristow (right), who resigned his post as chairman of MSU-YAF earlier this year, posted a poll to MSU-YAF’s blog, the Spartan Spectator, that posed the question, “Which is Worse?” It offered respondents two options: “Judeo-Bolshevism” and “Islamofascism.”

“Keep the following in mind when you vote,” Bristow wrote. “Judeo-Bolsheviks contributed two-thirds to three-quarters of the money for civil rights groups during the 1960s. … Despite representing only 2.5 percent of the population, Judeo-Bolsheviks provided over half of the funding of the Democratic party, and in the 2000 election, 80 percent of American Jews being Judeo-Bolsheviks voted for Al Gore.” ( continue to full post… )

A lawyer for the teenager who set off the largest rash of racist noose incidents this country has seen in recent decades says his client will plead guilty to a federal misdemeanor Friday. Jeremiah Munsen, 19, faced up to 11 years for conspiring to intimidate a black crowd returning from a huge anti-racist demonstration last fall in Jena, La., but now will receive no more than a year, said attorney Bill Guin. Some 20,000 people had rallied in Jena earlier that Sept. 20 to protest allegedly disparate criminal treatment accorded black and white students at a local high school.

Not much is known publicly about Munsen, other than the prosecutor’s description of his willingness to use a symbol (see photo) that “physically portended physical violence.” However, some little-known facts about his hometown may offer a clue.

Jeremiah Munsen comes from Colfax, La., a town of some 1,700 people about 40 miles southwest of Jena. Colfax is the site of the Easter Sunday 1873 massacre of 150 members of an all-black militia defending the town’s courthouse against an assault by rampaging white supremacists. To this day, the town appears utterly unrepentant about its role in the bloodshed that portended the end of Radical Reconstruction and the imposition of racist Jim Crow laws across the South. A historical marker in Colfax, put up by the state Department of Commerce and Industry in 1951, calls the massacre “The Colfax Riot” and says it “marked the end of carpetbag misrule in the South.” Even more striking, there also still remains an obelisk monument erected in Colfax in “loving remembrance” of the three white men who died, as the monument boasts without further elaboration or shame, “fighting for white supremacy.” ( continue to full post… )

It’s shaping up to be a rough month for the aggressively confrontational San Diego Minutemen (SDMM) and their leader Jeff Schwilk (below, right).

Last week, the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation released a report exposing SDMM internal E-mails dating back to June 2006 in which SDMM members repeatedly refer to immigrants in dehumanizing terms, including “cockroaches” and “Third-World animals.” One E-mail, dated June 2007, recommends that SDMM members headed to the border to search for immigrants bring “a portable battery operated freezer … for storage of filets, hams and ribs of well-marbled border crossers.”

Such comments, it turns out, aren’t the only Schwilk embarrassment this month. Now, African-American anti-affirmative action crusader Ward Connerly is disputing the truthfulness of a Schwilk claim in an April 13 mass E-mail to all SDMM members. Schwilk informed his followers that Connerly had personally contacted him to relay an offer to pay the travel expenses of any SDMM member willing to collect signatures in Missouri for an anti-affirmative action proposition Connerly and his allies are trying to get on the ballot in the “Show Me State” this November. California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), Psychology Professor Kevin MacDonald (right) is facing more condemnation from his colleagues for his anti-Semitic research. In the past month, both the Jewish Studies Program and the History Department have issued statements (here and here) specifically distancing themselves from MacDonald’s hateful work. The Anthropology Department also has a statement under consideration. The statements all affirm MacDonald’s right to academic freedom and his tenured position on the CSULB faculty.

MacDonald’s views were outlined in the 2007 Intelligence Report exposé, “Promoting Hate,” which prompted his removal from teaching required undergraduate courses. MacDonald believes that Jews are impelled by genetic factors to undermine the majority populations of the societies they live in. In fact, MacDonald puts it like this in journalist Jon Entine’s new book, Abraham’s Children: “Jews do not act in the best interest of society. We need to systematically put in place some controls, call it discrimination if you will, to restore parity with other groups.” Since the turn of the millennium, MacDonald has also become a white supremacist activist. He has held leadership positions in several white supremacist groups, and in 2004 he was honored with a $10,000 prize for his work on the Jews by The Occidental Quarterly, a white supremacist publication where he currently serves on the editorial advisory board.

The latest twist in the long-running saga of Kevin MacDonald — a man who has bitterly complained that his colleagues and others are trying to suppress his free speech and academic freedom with their criticism — is the professor’s threat to sue faculty members who have negative things to say about him. His legal threats have sown fear on the CSULB campus, causing other faculty members, particularly in the psychology department of which he is a part, to stifle their opinions of his work.

MacDonald’s legal threats were made public in a memo (PDF) written by Psychology Department Chair Ken Green to his faculty earlier this month. Green’s letter was directed to those department members considering issuing a statement that would formally disassociate the department from MacDonald’s work. Several professors feel that the three statements already posted on the department website that reiterate the department’s commitment to diversity and denounce the use of psychological research as propaganda for racist groups are inadequate for that purpose. Green’s E-mail to his fellow faculty members instructed that MacDonald’s threat of legal action “is a factor that should be reviewed and considered.” No offer of a legal defense was made by school officials. The National Socialist Movement (NSM), America’s largest neo-Nazi organization, is promising to bring hundreds of “Patriotic Americans” to Washington, D.C, to protest illegal immigration this Saturday — the 13th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, which was carried out by a man influenced by neo-Nazi ideology.

NSM “Commander” Jeff Schoep, who late last year moved his group’s headquarters from Minneapolis to Detroit, writes that his purpose is “to send a message to the crooked Politicians of both the corrupt Democratic and Republican Parties. … We as Americans demand that our Nations Borders [sic] are closed, and that an America First Policy is enacted.” He did not publicly say where and when the march would take place, and NSM apparently has not yet obtained a parade permit.

The rally would only be the latest of scores of anti-immigration events put on by hate groups in recent years. Hate groups’ focus on immigration has helped them recruit and grow, driving a 48% spurt in the number of such groups between 2000 and 2007, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s annual count.

The NSM last year claimed a total of 76 chapters, making it by far the largest such group in the country. But that number may greatly overstate the strength of NSM, which has been sapped by weak leadership, the departure of many key activists toward the end of 2007, and feuds with other racist leaders. It hasn’t helped that Schoep left for Michigan to follow a new girlfriend, leaving his daughter and her mother in Minnesota — not exactly sterling conduct for an “Aryan” parent. That came on top of Schoep’s guilty plea in 1998 to felony aiding and abetting of a burglary. Court records show that Schoep had accompanied his then-girlfriend, the mother of his daughter, as she stole $4,000 worth of computer equipment — all while four of the woman’s children waited in the back of their getaway car. The story from Athens, Texas, read like it was custom-tailored for anti-immigration propaganda: A 13-year-old white girl at Athens Middle School attacked and threatened with rape and murder by a gang of 21 Latino students, only because she completed a class assignment to “create a protest sign” of her choice by making a placard that read, “If you love our nation, stop illegal immigration.” The student displayed bruises and scratches to support her account, and her parents demanded a federal investigation.

You might think that nativist bloggers and leaders would be just a little gun shy after the embarrassing case of Angela D. Wilburn, the wife of the Ozarks Minutemen founder. Wilburn fabricated a story last December about being raped and shot by Mexican intruders after she accidentally shot herself.

But, true to form, as soon after the Athens story broke last Tuesday, the “deport-’em-all” Internet posse whipped out their rhetorical six-shooters and commenced blasting. ( continue to full post… )

Last Friday, a highly conservative publication called Investor’s Business Daily (IBD) published an editorial on its website called “The Real Cost of Immigration” that previewed a report to be released today at the National Press Club — an analysis, as IBD noted, by one Edwin S. Rubenstein that is being published by The Social Contract journal. What IBD didn’t bother to tell its readers was the troubling truth about Rubenstein’s politics and those of his Michigan publisher.

According to IBD, Rubenstein’s report, “The Fiscal Impact of Immigration: An Analysis of the Costs to 15 Federal Departments and Agencies,” concludes that every immigrant to the United States costs taxpayers more than $9,000. That’s vastly more than other analyses have concluded, and no mention whatsoever is made of what most economists agree on —that immigrants, legal and otherwise, help grow the economy in ways that actually increase jobs for native Americans. But that’s no surprise, given where Rubenstein and his publisher are coming from.

The truth is that Rubenstein is a man who has written for years for a racist anti-immigration website called VDARE — short for Virginia Dare, said to be the first white child born in the New World. He also writes for the white supremacist National Policy Institute. Last spring, the institute released a report, prepared with Rubenstein’s help, that paints “a statistical and narrative portrait of the war on white America,” in the website’s words. Nicholas Stix’s introduction to the article describes the Supreme Court’s 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education ruling outlawing school segregation as “arguably the worse decision in the Court’s 216 year history.” He claims later civil rights legislation was unconstitutional. “[I]ntegration and the civil rights movement led directly to the destruction of great cities,” he concludes.

Rubenstein’s publisher has its own sordid story. Although you’d never know it from the IBD editorial, The Social Contract Press (which publishes The Social Contract, the journal where the new report appears) is well known for its racist publications. The press was started by nativist ideologue John Tanton and is run by his editor, Wayne Lutton, who has been on the board of advisors of the Council of Conservative Citizens, a hate group that describes blacks as “a retrograde species of humanity.” In 1994, Tanton republished an infamous racist novel, The Camp of the Saints, along with his wholehearted endorsement and a special afterword from its author saying “the proliferation of other races dooms our race, my race, to extinction.” The novel describes the “swarthy hordes” of Indian immigrants who take over France, send white women to “a whorehouse for Hindus,” and engage in a grotesque orgy of men, women and children. The immigrants are described as “monsters,” “grotesque little beggars from the streets of Calcutta,” and worse. Unconcerned, Tanton said he was “honored” to republish what he described as an important and “prescient” text. ( continue to full post… )

Three days after the raid of a polygamist compound in Eldorado, Texas, the media is still atwitter about the arrest and search warrants served at the YFZ (Yearning For Zion) ranch, which was occupied by 400 followers of Warren Jeffs (right), the incarcerated “prophet” of the Fundamentalist Church of the Latter Day Saints.

But so far none of the dozens of stories and broadcast segments about Texas authorities taking 219 children and women from the YFZ compound into protective custody have even mentioned the fact that along with advocating child brides and plural marriage, FLDS doctrine is venomous with anti-black racism.

As described in a major feature on the FLDS published in the Spring 2005 issue of the Intelligence Report, Jeffs preaches to his estimated 10,000 followers that all blacks are the descendants of Cain, “cursed with a black skin,” and selected by God to be the “servants of servants.” It was on the basis of that unvarnished racism, preached as official FLDS doctrine, that the Southern Poverty Law Center began listing FLDS as a hate group in 2005.
