It is very sickening to read about Florida hate groups. I am a native of Florida and of African decent. (African American). I live in Ocala, Florida and the extreme right wing virus is alive and well. This area of Florida has many ugly hate heads in various positions. Rebel flags are so prevelant that anyone who works for the city and county government can openly display their ugly symbols. Students are allowed to ware rebel flags and hate symbols to school . At the governmental complex in Ocala, Florida, the Rebel Flag is flying in the wind. There has been many constructive efforts to have it removed, but the racist efforts influnces the decision makers. As a teacher who sincerely believes in justices, tolerance, equity, and inclusion, my journey of 23 years working in Florida has been long and hard. Florida really does need a help on many levels. Please continue to expose the hate and rid the fugus of these racist in this state by exposing their bacteria.

    Thank You

I don’t understand how people who call themselves Christians can be part of hate groups. It goes against all that Jesus teaches us. How much energy it must take to fill yourself with hate. What a waste of time. I feel sorry for people who feel threatened by people unlike themselves.

I’ve about stopped traveling to Florida from my home in Alabama, as the atmosphere has deteriorated so much! I’ve noticed while driving down interstate 75 that there are at least a few areas where the confederate flag is openly flaunted.

My regards to fordham in Ocala, and the many others who have to live in areas where this is so overt. Of course, the rest of the nation is hardly all that great either, though there are obviously areas where it is much better.

It is too bad that the likes of the late John D. McDonald, who lived in Florida much of his life, and who wrote such wonderful and entertaining novels that often dealt with Florida, have – instead of flourishing and enriching the state – apparently shrunk.

At least Florida still has Carl Hiassan (another famous novelist/satirist) and Dave Barry! I know there are others like them, of course, but there obviously need to be many more before the haters are the ones who start shrinking, and become ashamed of their racist ways (and not just in Florida, of course)!

The hilarious irony of it all is that with so many low-IQ people (KKK and the like) increasing in Florida, it is no wonder that the state is so laggard in embracing alternative power, as well as the type of sophisticated storm-planning and infrastructure that others, like the Dutch, have embraced (rather than spending so much time arresting cannibis smokers, or arresting journalists such as what has been happening at the Republican and Democratic conventions). The irony will be that many of these folks might eventually be washed away in “Gawd’s wrath” due to their own idiocy and sacrilegious judgement and hatred !

If Mr Black won the election in his precinct, it seems he’s entitled to that position, regardless of what anyone but his voters think of his opinions. This is a young man, who is trying to lawfully, properly exercise his political rights and heritage. Nothing wrong with that, in fact, there’s a lot of good in it.

    John,

Please, do not insult the good people that subscribe to this wonderful blog. Hate and intolerence is simply hate and intolerance. This election just shows a demograpic area where ignorance, hate and bigotory is a way of life. But wait . . . what am I thinking? Jeb Bush was your governor!

    John supports a Domestic Terrorist.

Go ahead and vote for the Terrorist, John.

It’s still a free country…until your Terrorist pals take over.

Man’s inhumanity to man is my “hot button.” I can’t stand it. Do you think a hatemonger would rise to such a level in the Democratic Party? How can the GOP condone this? It’s despicable.

…. it can’t be easy, being the son of a KKK Grand Wizard, with a last name like Black, huh ?
…. go Derek, I hope you make a difference, and stop the madness your father has promoted.

    …. Hope Floats

    Dear Paula D. Fordham,

It’s because of teachers like that George W. Bush got elected! I give your post a C- for spelling and a C for logic.

Here are some of your misspellings:

    prevelent — it’s “prevalent”

ware — in the sense of clothes, is “wear”

    influnces — it’s “influences”

justices — should be singular “justice”

fugus — I think you meant “fungus”

“exposing their bacteria” — that’s a bizarre metaphor.

    No Teacher Left Behind!

Thank you for your comments. Granted, their were misspelled words. However I think you got my message loud and clear!!
I typed that comment quickly because of the time limit.

If you really wanted to indicate how much you hated the facts and realities in the context of my comments, you could have wrote that you love the rebel flag and I support what it stands for in today’s society. Also, you would have indicated your name. What are you afraid of? Simply get to the main idea and reveal you identity.

The main issue is that I don’t hide by flags, sheets, lies, false names, and personal attacks. It is what it is, bacteria.

I normally don’t comment on what I read but it’s interesting to me how a confederate flag can cause so much backlash.Have you ever heard of the term “Heritage, not hate” This applys to all of us in the deep ,south who love the confederate flag for what it is, just a flag that represents our heritage both the good side of the heritage as well as the bad. I really believe that we as a people get too wrapped up in the symbolism. As guaranteed in the constituition, this is a free country where freedom of speech is afforded all people whether it offends you or not.
