New York Times Editorial Takes Down ‘Restless Nativists’

By David Holthouse on February 3, 2009 - 11:35 am, Posted in Anti-Immigrant

As Hatewatch first reported last November, the prevailing post-election wisdom in academic racist and white nationalist circles is that John McCain lost because he was soft on immigration, and that future Republican victories hinge not upon courting non-white and moderate-on-immigration swing voters, as mainstream GOP strategists like Karl Rove argue, but upon vilifying Latino immigrants and fanning the flames of racial tensions in America with renewed gusto.

The New York Times Editorial Board eloquently condemned such regressive thinking in last Sunday’s lead New York Times editorial, “The Nativists Are Restless.”

“The relentlessly harsh Republican campaign against immigration has always hidden a streak of racial extremism,” it began. “Now after several high-water years, the Republican tide has gone out, leaving exposed the nativism of fringe right-wingers clinging to what they hope will be a wedge issue.”

The editorial was published three days after America’s Voice, a pro-immigration reform advocacy group, put on a press conference for top-tier media outlets, including the New York Times. The press conference [MP3 here] relayed information from Hatewatch’s recent exposé of the racist and anti-immigrant extremist views and backgrounds of several panelists who participated in a symposium at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the American Cause, a far-right think tank. The event promoted a new American Cause report making the case that, as the New York Times editorial put it, “…anti-immigration absolutism was still the solution for the [Republican] party’s deep electoral woes, actual voting results notwithstanding.”

Those panelists included American Cause executive director Marcus Epstein, and Peter Brimelow, owner of the anti-immigration hate site

“The site is worth a visit,” declared the NYT editorial. “There you can read…musings about racial dilution and the perils facing white people, and gems like this from Mr. Epstein:

‘Diversity can be good in moderation – if what is being brought in is desirable. Most Americans don’t mind a little ethnic food, some Asian math whizzes, or a few Mariachi dancers – as long a these trends do not overwhelm the dominant culture.’

“It is easy to mock white-supremacist views as pathetic and to assume that nativism in the age of Obama is on the way out,” the NYT editorial concluded. “The country has, of course, made considerable progress since the days of Know-Nothings and the Klan. But racism has a nasty habit of never going away, no matter how much we may want it to, and thus the perpetual need for vigilance.”

We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

    Shadow Wolf: sounds pretty cool!

  • GENO the Shadow Wolf

Since you asked me. The reason I took up the name “Shadow Wolf” was in honor of the American Indian trackers in the elite United States Border Patrol unit called “the Shadow Wolves” who are responsible for patrolling the 76 mile stretch of Arizona/Mexico border on the Tohono O` Odham Nation. Although I’m not a member of that tribe, but however as a Native myself, they are my inspiration. Given their unique tracking abilities of hunting illegal aliens.

(I posted a comment on here to address Carter but somehow the moderator did not post my comment, so therefore I could not address Carter)

What’s up with the “Shadow Wolf” thing? A promotion?

Yes, Marcus Epstein is Jewish. He’s quite a bright, young man. Here’s his article in VDare discussing the NYT article:

  • Jonathan

The NY Times is an extremist, hate newspaper. Of course they love the idea that the White, gentile majority is getting displaced.

Did anyone else notice that the “diversity” diatribe came from a man named Marcus Epstein?? EPSTEIN? Pure nativists would run him out on a pole.

At the risk of repeating myself, a Sheriff is a politician; 1st last & always. Joe Arpaio tuns in statistics that coincide w/ what that country wants…. He may be an arrogant little shit but he gives them want they want. Phoenix is the “big city” & it’s run very openly by developer interests.
I’d bet that when the Sheriff was a young hansom buck, he learned that real fast! The population wanted the appearance that the “criminals” were getting punished: even if it was humiliation (w/ the pink BS).
The thing that gets me is putting people in jail that don’t belong there and using up beds for petty crap. Joe is famous for that. The genius in Pima country keeps getting re-elected even though his jail is a disaster also. He just knows how to play the voters.

  • GENO the Shadow Wolf

You can also note that the NYT has also done several op-ed pieces concerning our most ruthless, egotistical, and somewhat insensated buffoon by the name of (Sheriff) joe arpaio. One of the Nation`s most virulent anti-Hispanic demagoguery thug.
The 76 year old ancient lawman is having troubles with the local GOP scene here in sandland. With his recent battles being waged upon the county Board of Supervisors and the Arizona`s Court of Appeals, local Judges among others.
You can call that Republican Cannibalism if you will…

Now that Eric Holder has been confirmed as the first African-American to become the United States Attorney General. And one of his aim is, according to the A.P. was to reform the D.O.J. which has been badly tarnished with political scandals under the Bush administration. And if his aim is to root out corruption within the Nation`s Dept. Of Justice and other law enforcement agencies. Will he be able to examine the gross and wreakless corruption and malfeasance ridden Maricopa County Sheriffs Office???

No one here is willing to investigate the long list of corruption by arpaio because the local GOP collaborators are behind the ancient grease-haired hypocrite, due to the illegal immigration debate.
Anyhoo, there are plenty of good pieces on the angry (Sheriff) that can be read and determined at The Feathered Bastard`s recent post in the Phoenix New Times.
Ray Stern at the Phoenix New Times has also did a great piece on the corrupted (Sheriff) in today`s post:

Kudos to the New York Time and to the Phoenix New Times, for informing the public of the notoriety of our corrupted (Sheriff) who needs to be in the same gulags, where numerous inmates have died. Not out there *purportled* to be enforcing the law. Latest statistics shows that crime rate has soared under arpaio`s reign of hispanic terrorism. Because he refuses to go after the METH-faced natavist criminals who commit crimes at a much higher rate than illegal aliens. This research was conducted by the Goldwater Institute and the East Valley Tribune which also did a series into arpaio`s ineffectiveness as a lawman.

Also the (Sheriff) has been vigorously criticized by both police chiefs from the Phoenix P.D. and Mesa P.D. Including the Phoenix mayor–Phil Gordon.

And one last note, I forgot to add that the Huffington Post has also did an article berating the (Sheriff). Writer Matt Palevsky who wrote about the incident on Jan. 9 when a mother was torn from her children by (Sheriff) joe`s goon squads during a traffic stop, which was also caught on camera by the legendary Sal Reza. His footage can be sought somewhere on the Feathered Bastard`s post where a link can be found there….
There are also plenty of natavist related footage taken by Dennis Gilman that can be checked out on his youtube humanleague site concerning the hordes of snaggled-tooths here in sandland.
They are dangerously rabid and they need to be euthanized.
