That the accused should be (and have acted as) a white supremacist does not and, to my mind, cannot justify his execution. While I am aware that the Court’s decision must have been made in compliance with both state and federal penal systems, the issue is to me a matter of principle: the death penalty has to be legally outlawed. It was in France, back in 1981, shortly after François Mitterrand got elected President: the crime rate has not risen since.
Needless to say, I staunchly oppose every and any form of xenophobia (in this case: ‘supremacism’).

What justified this scumbag’s execution isn’t his white supremacist garbage.

    He committed first degree murder.

I do agree that the Death Penalty (or DP as we say on the Internets) is a bad idea.

Even fiscal conservatives should be against the DP, since it costs way more than putting the scumbag into SuperMax for life without parole, which is my suggested alternative to the DP.

The DP costs about ten times more than putting them in jail until they die of old age.

And you can’t undo an execution. The Brits found this out in the 1950s when they executed the wrong guy. That led them to abolish the DP.

Here in Colorado, there is currently a bill to abolish the DP and even the Repukes support it because of the cost.

I’m never happy when the government executes someone, no matter what the crime. The government is supposed to be the grownup, here. Two wrongs never make a right!

I hate violence, even toward the violent!

I, too, am against the death penalty for ANYONE for ANY REASON. William Mark Mize is obviously someone who should NEVER be released into society – he should be kept in a maximum security prison FOREVER.

Why does this person deserve special handling? He took a life if it is known for certain that he did this than an eye for an eye. this wasnt accidental or without malice. This person acted with apparent impunity and thats what law is all about, protecting the innocent

I don’t have a problem with the DP for the most part. I do think that in order to cut the costs associated with it, they should just put a bullet in the back of the guys head. That and eliminate the mandatory appeals process that goes with it. Someone (I forget who) once said that the most “humane” death sentence would be to bring the guy into the warden’s office, tell him they were setting him free and then put a bullet in his head as he turned to walk away. That way, he’d at least die happy. Not sure I subscribe to that but it’s certainly more cost effective than our current system.

In cases where certainty of a crime cannot be ascertained, give the guy life without parole. In a case like this, bullet to the back of the head a week later works for me. He was there, his own testimony shows that because he states that it can’t be determined who fired the fatal shot, which means he fired at least one of the shots and therefore the intent to kill was there. Intent (and premeditation) is the crux in first degree murder. I’m okay with this one.

Well certainly the U.S. is nothing compared to Brittish. Since the U.S. has put to death numerous innocents, most of them Black men. And there are still some incarcerated on Death Row today, who may be innocent because there was no DNA and modern technology back then. Thus, based on a biased and unfair justice practices by the white man.
I think the Death Penalty should apply to those that will always remain a credible risk to society, that includes but not limited to serial killers, terrorists, and level 3 sex offenders. The most deranged and dangerous types that poses a grave significant threat, shall be put to death regardless of the cost. They must bring back the ways of “Old Sparky”, which btw, was cheaper back then.

Geno, can you show some statistics or authority citations for your comments that the “U.S. has put to death numerous innocents, most of them black men.”

I’m not trying to pick a fight here, I’m truly curious.

Well, if you’re really that gullible to begin with, then you’re ill-informed. The number of innocents being put to death is staggering.

We have waged war previously debating the Death Penalty, if memory serves me correctly and I’m prepared to do battle once again, but since you’re “curious”. Here’s an excerpt from the U.S. News:

“For every 7 executions–486 since 1976–1 out of every other prisoner has been found innocent.”

    http://members.tripod.com/Robt.....ocent.html

Not to mentioned the Chief Justice of Florida’s Supreme Court–Gerald Krogan stepped down due to the number of innocents being put to death. So it begs the question–is the Justice system fair? Probably not. But I don’t see why a common nonwhite criminal should be put to death for a single murder, simply because their victims happened to be white and special. And I’m wondering why Charles Manson is still alive today.

Geno, the fact that you’re always insulting is at least a constant. Thank you for the link. I’ll review it later. We have discussed the death penalty before although I’d hardly call it doing battle. I have my views, you have yours. We don’t agree. What’s to battle about?

And as to your wondering why Charles Manson is still alive today, you must be equally “ill-informed” in another area. As one of the most charismatic criminals of the times, he is (and has been) studied by the government in its many facets for the almost the entire length of his incarceration.
