    I always thought a stint in the US military might give these dunces with time on their hands a reality check — then I thought perhaps these potential losers would not qualify to serve in the US military. There has to be place besides prison where the judge can banish them to in order for them to learn a serious lesson. Perhaps, individually sent into the jungles of Africa or among the poorest in India or China to serve the less unfortunate might mellow them out — replacing the heart (and head) of stone with a heart of flesh. Transforming experiences — that might do it!
