Pat Buchanan is mostly German? Oh, great. All we German Americans have making sense in the media are Kieth Olbermann and Ed Schultz! The last thing we need is some other hateful crackpot who keeps who keeps giving us collectively a bad name, since Hitler!

Buchanan was starting to sound reasonable during the Bush years when he was ranting against the Iraq war but even at that his arguments were tinged with racism.

It’s interesting to me that while Buchanan now self-identifies as Scots-Irish by descent he’s more of German ancestry than anything else. He though primarily seems to think of himself as a Southerner and that’s how I think of him.

I believe the reason Buchanan doesn’t talk much of his German ancestry is because he knows the media wants to believe he’s Irish in order. to further marginalize Irish-Catholics in America by proxy thru Buchanan (among others). Often it seems that Buchanan doesn’t believe his own rhetoric. He includes a mischievous smile with a lot of his more incendiary or insulting comments, so I always thought it was more of an attention-getting routine for him. He’s a bit like the standard comedians, who are brought in to liven up boring game shows, than a political commentator..

It puzzles me as to why MSNBC still employes Buchanan. I cannot believe such a cable channel would have such a man with such bigoted views representing them! Buchannan is representing the wrong news network. He needs to be on Faux News.

By the way, we are all immigrants. Unless Buchanan is a Native American Indian, hes an immigrant as well! Isn’t Pat of Irish decent?

I would respectfully like to ask the SPLC to fix whatever problem they’re having with the comments section here, because there are lines almost obliterated here and there and it isn’t often clear what a poster is saying.

I’m guessing this depression we’re in has SPLC like a lot of us tightening our belts, and the money just isn’t there for computer repairs.

I would just like to suggest that they ask contributors to this forum for donations that will go towards repair. I will happily donate what I can.

How about it SPLC? Can you issue a call for funds?

This economic situation is only going to get worse, and all those who rely on donations will be hurting even worse with each passing month all the way through 2015, so the time to act is RIGHT NOW.

I hope this isn’t taken the wrong way. I’d just like to help.

No disappointment is not the right word. He thinks that the reaction immigration is a recent phenomenon; a 21st Century issue.
How narrow some perspectives are when the finger is not pointing at them.

If anyone who contributes to this blog is 50yrs of age or older they MAY believe like I do that Buchanan was a serious disappointment.
NO, disappointment is actually the wrong word. When he was a speech writer for Nixon Most people on the Right Center, or Left had little idea this guys was so damn bigoted. And perhaps he wasn’t back then.
When he was a commentator for various TV talk shows some of what he contributed appeared to be Rightist material but after a time he started to get a bit overboard until his agenda became (IMO) almost pathological.
Here was a great example of the commentary of “illegal immigration as a legal issue” to “immigrants as a whole as villains”……Continuous Welfare as problematic to self-sufficiency to “Welfare Mothers” (code words)…… and on and on.

I don’t know what happened to Pat; he sure didn’t “wake up”. He appeared to dwell in a nightmare of blaming mysterious “others” until his perspective became synonymous with a white-collar bigot.

As time goes on it seems more people become drawn to the fringes of political thought. The Hubert Humphrey Democrats would appear quite conservative today. The Barry Goldwater conservatives would seem very Libertarian (especially in regards to what Goldwater said about Gays & privacy rights).
I have a feeling that many people may find the centrist agenda of Obama displeasing but in the light of those falling off the cliff of the political spectrum; he may be doing just what is needed.
