Federal Court Upholds Anti-Immigrant Ordinance

A three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a suburban St. Louis town’s ordinance prohibiting the hiring of undocumented immigrants.

It is a shame that this ruling has been handed down, but I am glad the ordinance has been largely diluted through previous court rulings.
St. Louis’ local free weekly has previously covered this story, including an extended interview with then-mayor Jeffrey Whitteaker that illustrated his profound racist and anti-Hispanic biases. Thankfully, Whitteaker (who–no joke!–said he didn’t want “Cousin Puerto Rico and Taco Whoever moving in”) was defeated in his re-election bid, in large part due to negative reaction to this story.
