Dutch Lawmaker Brings His Anti-Muslim Spiel to U.S.

By Sonia Scherr on October 20, 2009 - 5:15 pm, Posted in Anti-Muslim

A Dutch lawmaker notorious for his Muslim-bashing is scheduled to speak tonight at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Geert Wilders, who has repeatedly compared the Koran to Hitler’s Mein Kampf, was for months banned from Britain because of concerns that his anti-Islamic views would trigger violence. He held a press conference there on Friday after a court overturned the no-entry ban.

Although the Temple University event marks Wilders’ first visit to Philadelphia, he spoke in several U.S. cities during a visit to America earlier this year. In an April 27 speech in Miami, he said Europe was “on the verge of collapsing” due to an influx of Muslim immigrants. “The takeover of Europe is part of the global fight of Islam for world domination,” he said, according to a transcript of the speech that’s posted on Jihadwatch.org, an anti-Islam website. “Islam is not a religion. It is a political ideology. Islam’s heart lies in the Koran. The Koran is a book that calls for hatred, violence, murder, terrorism, war and submission.”

Because Islam is not a religion, according to Wilders, “the right to religious freedom should not apply to Islam.” He called for a moratorium on the building of new mosques and the closure of all Islamic schools because “they are fascist institutions.” He said anyone belonging to a “non-Western minority” should be required to enter into “a legally binding contract of assimilation.” He also asserted that Islamic culture is inferior to Judeo-Christian culture.

In February, he screened his anti-Islam documentary Fitna on Capitol Hill at the invitation of Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz. Fitna shows verses of the Koran along with graphic footage of atrocities committed by radical Muslims, including the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

“I think he’s arguably the world’s worst Islamophobe, but what is truly scary is his acceptance in the mainstream,” said Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State
University, San Bernardino. “He’s unabashedly retrograde because he exploits deep-rooted fears about citizenship and security. His reprehensible, bigoted stereotyping of Islam completely mischaracterizes the beliefs of the overwhelming majority of the world’s Muslim adherents. [And] his totalitarian proposals are not only practically preposterous, but the most morally reprehensible that one could conceive of next to murder or forced conversion.”

At Temple, campus organizations have condemned the decision by a student group called Purpose to invite Wilders. Purpose’s president, Brittany Walsh, told The Associated Press that the event was “an opportunity for the students to really express and practice their freedom of speech.” Temple officials defended the right of student organizations to host controversial speakers.

Wilders’ appearance at Temple is financed by the far-right David Horowitz Freedom Center in California. Wilders also is scheduled to speak tomorrow at Columbia University in New York.

    @ LB
The SPLC lists Black Separatist/Supremacy groups as hate groups, as well as a few Hispanic/Latino/whatever gangs. Asians, not so much. As for Muslim groups, everyone should already know 2/3:
Al Qaeda (pretty damn hard to forget them), Hamas, and Hezbollah
I don’t think we need the SPLC to report on them. The men and women in the CIA and the Armed Forces are doing that pretty well themselves.

Also, reporting underground activites are best left to geologists. One more thing, since when is hate, in general, good and morally decent (Reading my username, I’m all about PL&U, which there’s nothing funny about)

  • LB

I want to know why SPLC only attacks White Males! I never see any
Black, Asian, Latino or Muslim articles about their racism or underground
Militant activities. Hate Watch needs to look at themselves First! SPLC is
against anything good & morally decent in this Country!

According to Snorlax, me pointing out about the problems posed by Islamic immigration as well as about the Muslim savagery is a “racist diatribe”. Well, let me break down the facts then.
According to RAWA.org (an organization that fights for the rights of women in Afghanistan and Pakistan) in Afghanistan the violence against women is extremely widespread, with up to 90% of married women are abused and tortured by their husbands. Many of them wound up murdered in the so-called “honor killings”. If not by their husbands, then by their own brothers, uncles or fathers. Most young girls (some of them as young as 8 and 9 years old) are forcibly married off to 30 or 40-something year old men, for various reasons such as greasing a business deal or paying off a debt. Once married, they are expected to have their fist child by the age of 12, and it’s also expected of them to perform the slave like domestic chores obediently like mules. I know, to some this may seem like a traditional or cultural custom. But I call it what I see it as: child rape. And while 90% figure may not be used to indicate ALL Afghans, it certainly comes very close to. Some of these girls who can’t take such hellish life anymore, commit suicide through self immolation. And although I’m citing Afghanistan as an example, such practice is also widespread in all Muslim-majority nations, whether it’s Saudi Arabia, Iran or Pakistan. And guess what, Quran specifically condones violence against women as well as child rape (prophet Mohamed himself married a 9 year old girl, Aisha).
And about female circumcisions, based on Amnesty International’s estimates, approximately 98% of Somali women are circumcised. Of course, while 98% does not mean ALL Somali women had FGM done to them, but it certainly comes damned close.
And these are just small sampling of life under Islamic culture. And thanks to the leftist dogma of “multiculturalism”, Muslim immigrants are encouraged to maintain such “traditions” once they come to Europe.
And where are the uber-liberal feminists? Aren’t they supposed to stand up for the rights all women, including the poor, unfortunate ones in Middle East? Nah, they’re too busy with more important things, like campaigning to get people to stop using the words “actress” and “stewardess”. Geert Wilders is one of the few brave people who’s willing to speak up about evil that is perpetrated in the name of God in 21st century, in this day and age. And I’m deeply disappointed that some people out there accuse him of bigotry and racism.

    @ Exaggerato:
Okay, but I just wanted to know if this guy’s idea of religion falls in line with what his government/national dictionary thinks. I hope it doesn’t, I really like the Dutch. They’re the ones with Hans Christian Andersen, right?

  • Snorlax

Emmett A claims that anti-Muslim voters in Europe are not racists. But that claim is difficult to swallow, seeing that it is in the middle of a racist diatribe that goes on for ten column inches.

Emmett A portrays ALL Muslims as dangerous, backward people who mutilate their children, cause riots and plot terrorism. That’s a racist stereotype.

Not all Muslims are bomb-throwing Luddites. Most of them are hard-working respectable people who are in our universities, businesses and professions.

This kind of paranoid hatred is not going to solve the very real and complicated problems we face in today’s world.

  • Snorlax

“The Koran is a book that calls for hatred, violence, murder, terrorism, war and submission.”

    So is the Bible.

    Next idiot, please…

    “Tezuka fan” asks:

What’s the Dutch definition of religion?

To conservative minds like those of Wilders (and those of Dutch derivation down South Africa way, a/k/a Afrikaners), it would probably be Calvinist in orientation (think the Dutch Reformed Church, for one).

  • Emmett A

I’m very surprised that SPLC decided to bash Geert Wilders. That man has every right in the world to speak about, and stand up to Islamic extremism. Think about it, the al Qaeda scums who blow themselves up and slaughter innocent people, they do so in the name of Islam. That the Taliban scums who throw acid on women’s faces, they do so in the name of Islam. In Saudi Arabia, you will get your hands chopped off just for stealing a piece of bread. All of these and many, many more despicable actions conducted in accordance with Muslim laws. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.
When Wilders talks about the threat that Islamic immigration poses to Dutch society (and nevermind to the Western Civilization as whole), you don’t even have to take his word for it. Just look up about Somali immigrants who practice genital mutilation on their 8 or 9 year old girls. Or the Arab men who murder their daughters if they don’t cover themselves head to toe in niqab. Or the Moroccan street gangs who bash homosexual men in broad daylight. Of course, the SPLC has decided to conveniently ignore these facts and instead paint Geert Wilders as a right wing extremist. Whenever leftists talk about the victories and the rising popularity of the right wing parties in European elections, such as British National Party in UK or Jobbik party in Hungary, they always seem to make claims about increasing level of racism or xenophobia as the reason. I disagree. I do not believe that the Dutch (or the British people for that matter) have “turned racist”. Most of those who vote for the far right are racist. No they’re just fed up. They’re fed with their children being assaulted on the streets by Arab or Pakistani thugs. They are fed up with Muslim thugs burning their cars and homes during their rampaging race riots. And most importantly they are fed with with how the streets of the great European cities like Rotterdam, Paris or London look less and less European and have (thanks to open-door mass Muslim immigration) come to resemble chickens–t Middle Eastern villages, packed with bearded men wearing medieval Islamic outfits and women covered from head to toe. Shows just how well these immigrants have (not) been integrated in Western societies, doesn’t it?

Religion: (as defined by the American Heritage Dictionary, Fourth Edition)

    1.
    a. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
    b. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.

    2. The life or condition of a person in a religious order.

    3. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.

    4. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

But, he’s Dutch, so I’m sure that these definitions don’t apply.
Seriously though, these definitions scream Islam! How can it not? What’s the Dutch definition of religion? My guess is that it covers Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, Sikhism, Native American traditions, African traditions, paganism, Neo-paganism… hell, even Satanism! What’s his excuse now? He has a different definition? My idea of what the Dutch consider a religion is off?
