    There are strong indications of this being a hate crime. However, I think it is also a moral imperative for concerned citizens to look at the social conditions of this area before jumping to conclusions about the extent of racial violence here. Rather it should serve as a wake up call to those who oppose affirmative action and minority empowerment programs as to the risk to society if we delay much-needed investments in communities such as this. No black man in America can claim to have been victimless within the context of historical racism. But this is no excuse for beating down the unnumbered immigrant, himself merely trying to survive.
