The New York Times

/

October 24, 2009

Instead of being simply a draw for Hispanic viewers, CNN’s four-hour documentary, “Latino in America,” turned into a political rallying cry for activist groups who are calling on the cable news channel to fire Lou Dobbs, a veteran anchor with well-known views on immigration.

As much as one may dislike what Mr. Dobbs says, we have the 1st Amendment which guarantees his right to say any stupid thing he wants. Now his sponsors could exercise their freedom of speech and stop sponsoring him. If he has no sponsors then his show would probably be dropped by the network. But the network can’t fire him becuase they don’t like what he says.

it is totally baffling that CNN continues to allow airing these disgusting toxic rants of Dobbs. I do wonder if Mr. Klein would be as generous in his support if Dobbs were attacking Italians, Jews, African Americans and other ethnic groups. I think not. He is a hypocrite supporting a rather demented individual for the money he gains.

DOBBS IS ANTI-AMERICAN AND A DANGEROUS BIGOT. HE SPEAKS LIES LIKE THEY ARE THE TRUTH. WE NEED LESS DOBBS AND MORE REAL NEWS. DUMB DOBBS.

    Marcia

The network absolutely can fire him for what he says. Look at Dan Rather.

The Bill of Rights doesn’t mean you get to keep your job if your employer is unhappy with your work. And, I’d say a nationwide campaign against the network and its sponsors is a pretty good reason to fire him.

Freedom of speech is about governmental suppression of the citizen’s right to express herself, not about muzzling Dobbs for spreading anti-immigrant propaganda.

Three cheers for SPLC and the powerful voice of the American public! We stood up and Dobbs backed down.

This is a great day for CNN and a great day for America that this voice of nativist hatred has been taken off the air. Good bye, good luck, and good riddance!!
