I am listening to what you are saying. Maybe your idea woudl be a good one for the media. Unfortunately if the world was interested in a better world for all. According to your off (remember off now means meaning) and many others were with you as in the same plans… then it woudl have been happening.

I cannot speak for all but but I think those ancestory lines that you spoke of came in the front door. I also wouldn’t dare compare that era to this era as there were far too many differences in every sense I haven’t heard of any group that someone else doesn’t like. But to call this group a hate group. For me and many others who are all races we say, you destroy the original meaning of what a Hate Group is. (oh plz no silly responses) and to top it off, Fair is a hate group so the SPLC says and yet the groups who Hate Fair or other groups are not Hate Groups? I was born in Youngstown, OH. That town used to have more than 150,000 people living there. Now, it has around 70,000. Most of the foundries and manufacturing plants are shuttered. From what I hear, the county is actually paying people to leave their houses in nearly abandoned neighborhoods so that they can be razed.

That’s really sad.

It used to be that the backbone of this country was the blue collar worker, and that blue collar worker could make a living wage with which to support his family.

There are tons of examples. To me, this is the kind of stuff that our government should be thinking in. When I think of stimulus, that’s what I think of. Imagine what a combination of my electric vehicle example and “cash for clunkers” could have done. Nope, not everyone would have gotten an electric car. But, it would have gotten the cars out on the road, and people would see them. They’d become the mainstream.

I always liked the idea of the Picken’s Plan for our energy infrastructure. The government could have invested in that, and in growing a domestic supply chain for that stuff. Investment in mass transit in cities over 250,000 with bad traffic problems would have had a positive environmental impact, would have created jobs, and eventually could pay for itself if it were properly planned so that the maximum number of people would use it.

There are many, many places where the government could have invested that money, and actually would have realized a return (i.e. taxes on the electric car manufacturer, taxes on the power company, and their associated supply chains).

What you are saying is true. Although I am a Republican, I most definitely blame the last two administrations for sending jobs overseas in order to fatten the bottom lines of companies. I can tell you first hand how angering it is to see people being lined up for layoffs knowing that their company’s office or plant overseas is on a hiring binge.

At this point, I think that the only thing that could bring the jobs back is some carrot-and-stick action between the government and many of these companies in terms of tax cuts. On the other hand, the government could always take some of that stimulus money and give it to upstart manufacturing companies so that they can expand domestically. Of course, making the government grant contingent upon said company never sending jobs overseas.

One thing they could do is offer a nice chunk of that money to the first US-owned and US-based manufacturing company that wants to mass produce a full line of electric vehicles with a purely domestic supply chain (hey, this is just a theory) based in let’s say Detroit, or one of the cities in the “rust belt”. Helping them out with some seed money to tool up properly could help keep the cost of the car economical, which would help the company grow like gangbusters, which would generate more jobs (not just with the manufacturer, but also with its suppliers), and would begin to revitalize these blighted areas. As a side effect, I am sure that these cars would FLY off dealership lots if they are priced economically. This would help to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and would certainly be good for the environment.

That’s just one example. I am sure there are many.

Sure beats self-flagellation, less mess and way more profitable.

What we’re getting at I think is the easy flux of hate group members and extremist individuals in search of such a group through tea-bagging, anti-immigrant rallies, etc and the GOP. The worrisome dynamics are not so much that the GOP doesn’t take a stronger stand against its own racists and crackpots, but how does one even clearly identify who within the GOP has sympathies for them? The bitterest acrimony is reserved for Obama and anything the Democrats propose, but no one on the right is standing up to say, hey, maybe we do have a problem with these extremists, and we are formally distancing ourselves from this or other group. For this reason there are those who see signs of hate group activity around the GOP.

You’re 100% right, the act of illegal entry over a border is a crime as is fraud, but being in the country without a valid visa is a civil offense and the lack of documentation is not positive proof that any crime (fraud or crossing the border illegally) occured. Visas can expire for a lot of reasons, leaving say, a foreign professional who lost her job in a distinctly different situation than someone intercepted while swimming across the Rio Grande.

Moreso, as persons under US jurisdiction, there is a presumption of innocence and protection against undue search and seizure, among other civil liberties that preclude action by state police or sheriff’s depts. It’s not enough that someone doesn’t speak English and cannot immediately prove who they are to warrant detention on the violation of code you cite, though what is a valid motive in terms of whether or not a law enforcement officer is correct in detaining a person is broadly open to judicial interpretation.

FOX News is spewing racist hate on their TV network.

Rupert Murdoch has joined Glenn-or-Glenda Beck in calling Obama “racist”. But the’re the real racists.

Beck has already lost half his sponsor revenue and is being carried along by revenue from other FOX News shows.

Rupert Murdock must not be a very good businessman to keep an idiot like Beck on the air when he is scaring away sponsors.
