Three N.J. Teens Fatally Beat Salvadoran Immigrant to Death

Three teens have been charged with murder in the beating death of a 47-year-old Salvadoran immigrant. The teens also filmed the attack using a phone video-camera, and then circulated the video among teenagers in the town.

I love it.
First, it’s just amazing how when African Americans are charged with crimes like these their photos are almost always part of the article. I research hate crimes every single day, and have for a couple years straight now, and most of the time it is a real pain in my butt to confirm whether the alleged attackers were “White”, because if they are it’s almost never mentioned in the article an their photos are almost never published. But photos of African Americans charged with such crimes are apparently a requirement.
I also love how as soon as so-called “Whites” see that an African American is charged with such a crime, they have to point out the defendant’s so-called “race”. Many “Whites” get so proud of themselves when they can point out that people from groups other than our own can commit acts based on “race”. Well, that’s just plain silly. The fact is that we (“Whites”) are the VAST VAST perpetrators of incidents that are based on bias. There’s easily 100 incidents committed by “Whites” for every 1 incident committed by a so-called “Non-White”. It’s so seldom that “Non-Whites” are racist that “Whites” tried to create racism where there was none in the Shirley Sherrod incident. How many “White” supremacist organizations are there worldwide? Thousands. How many Asian, Arab, African, Latino supremacist organizations are there worldwide? I can’t think of even one. How many genocides have we “Whites” attempted to commit, based on bias? How many have other groups attempted, based on bias? Come on my fellow so-called “Whites”, let’s be honest with ourselves. We have a sickness that other groups do not have. That is what we should be concerned about, not the rare instance of a “Non-White” acting like we traditionally do.

Blame the hatred spewed out on Fox and Rush for terrible things like this.
To think this guy escaped the madness in El Salvador only to be painfully killed by children here.
Is there a chance to get this more publicity? Maybe a statue of this guy in a city park?

Not that these kids listened to Rush and Beck but they’re smart enough to pick up the idea that this guy doesn’t matter so they can do snything to him.

I can’t believe that someone could do such a horrible thing.That poor man did nothing to deserve to die like that.I know that the climate in this country is horrible and with many of the adult right wingers calling our president terrible names and throwing out threats,i am sure that their children are acting out and the parents could care less.I hope that his family understands, that many Americans are heartsick and disgusted for what happened to their loved one. May he rest in peace and may those that murdered him pay for what they did.

To Sam Malloy, I think you are on to something. You’ve guessed that the anti-Latino and anti-Latino immigrant rhetoric that this country has seen in recent years might be connected to the violence directed at Mr. Mazareigo. I think you might be right. I’ve written about this murder in a diary called “The Summer of Hating Latinos” at dailykos.com, and I’ve quoted your insightful comments. If you read that diary, I think you’ll see that Mr. Mazareigo’s murder has some similarities to many black lynchings this country produced. I truly believe his murder was a modern-day race-based lynching.
To barnz: I agree with you. All too often we don’t learn of the races of hate crime perpetrators by the local media, unless the perpetrators are people of color. In the case of Mr. Mazareigo, six people have been arrested: five are said to be involved in the attack on him and a sixth person is said to have stolen money from him after he arrived at the hospital where he died. Yet the press has only mentioned the races of two of the people involved (both black). I have a strong suspicion that most of the others who have been charged are white (Summit NJ is, after all, about 87% white). You may already do this in your research on hate crimes: when I want to find out the race of a hate crime perpetrator, I just email the journalist and ask. They will tell you if you ask. Very often, I’ve discovered, the perpetrator is white.
