		<description><![CDATA[Good God. That story about the crime in Nevada is sickening, but not particularly surprising. As someone who has read some contemporary works about Native American issues, I know that that sort of treatment by law enforcement is totally typical... the white people who start the trouble will get off scot free, while the victims have the book thrown at them. I also hope SPLC will strongly consider stepping in on this case.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[What the skinheads did in Nevada is appalling, but even more sickening is the willful denial of rights and humanity by the Lyon County police department that arrested the father.

The officers violated: 
-all of the Miranda Rights;
-the Fifth Amendment (being deprived of liberty without due process of law); 
-the Eighth Amendment (arresting the father without a reason, jailing him for six days without medical treatment, and imposing an excessive fine relative to life as a Native American);
- Section One of the Fourteenth Amendment (&quot;...nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.&quot;)
-and the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act

Furthermore, their arrest of the father on the supposed basis of a $367 fine that then turned into battery with a deadly weapon. Now, as the article mentions, the booking papers  say the family owes $30,367, charging them $30,000 more for a crime the father did not commit. The only &quot;crime&quot; the father would have committed would have been self defense for his family&#039;s sake. (This does not constitute double jeopardy in its essential form, but it is highly suspect.)

To add an injury to this injustice, the attackers have plainly admitted their part in the crime, which may have been spurred by the privilege of being the son of a former police officer.

To the SPLC, I say this: help bring the skinheads to justice, for such a heinous crime cannot be tacitly approved with silence.]]></description>
