Actually what they ought to ask themselves is- If McCarthy was so great, why are they now claiming that Communists have taken over academia, the media, etc.?

Even if I accepted the notion that Islam and/or Sharia law represents a threat to the United States on par with the Soviet Union, is it really Gaffney's contention that McCarthyism was successful weapon against communism? The HUAC was largely discredited by the 1960s, decades before the dissolution of the communist bloc.

No, I think it's clear that what ended Soviet communism was (1) internal outcry against its own oppression of the common people, (2) intellectual and cultural pressure from the West, heightened by improving communication, and (3) easing of international tensions resulting in a loss of warlike solidarity among the communist states. If radical Islam is a threat, those are the factors which can and should pacify it.

If anything, McCarthyist tactics will just do exactly what they did in the 50s: help to increase tensions until we have a new Cold War.

These guys are totally insane! How they can make these claims and continue to watch Fox News is outright crazy - meaning, they continue to help a company rich which has a partly owner of shares that has a person from a country that practices Sharia Law.

For this guy to continue to talk about the Muslim Brotherhood is also outright crazy - meaning, apparently he knows nothing about, or has read about Syyed Qytub (I think that's the spelling of his name). This man was one of the founders of Muslim Brotherhood, and before this group was started, he was educated in the state of Texas. So, does this mean he was 'radicalized' in the U.S. of all places? Based on the writings of this Qytub, he said he didn't like the American way of life, the lack of morals...

To bring back McCarthyism, then I think they need to start with these American groups that say the government has no authority over them - because if that's the case, how do we know that since 'the government has no authority over them' that they won't sell secrets to foreign entities, or any other activity like the selling of weapons...
