Police in Myrtle Beach, S.C., have arrested a man charged with assaulting a man over his sexual orientation. Michael Shawn Miller, 46, was charged with assault and kidnapping after he attacked his new roommate.

The Colorado Court of Appeals has rejected the appeal of a man found guilty of killing a transgender woman. Allen Andrade, 35, was accused of killing 18-year-old Angie Zapata after meeting her though social networking website and finding out she was biologically a male. The murder was the first transgender killing to be prosecuted as a hate crime.

A Wisconsin man has been charged with sending threats to a Wisconsin State Fair official. The suspect allegedly sent threatening and racially charged e-mails to Patrice Harris, an African-American spokesperson for the state fair, who was discussing recent assaults there on television.

Three men in Monroe, La., were charged with civil rights violations for hanging a dead raccoon from a flagpole, with a noose, to intimidate black students at a local high school. The three suspects face one year in jail if convicted.
