A judge on Thursday declared a mistrial in the case of California teen who allegedly shot a gay classmate in the back of the head during a computer lab class. Jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision on the degree of Brandon McInerney’s guilt for killing 15-year-old Larry King. Prosecutors now have to decide whether to re-file murder and hate crime charges against McInerney, now 17, who was tried as an adult.
Cook County Judge Colleen Ann Hyland gave attorneys for two men accused last summer of a hate crime and robbery until Oct. 6 to settle or begin trial. Hickory Hills, Ill., police say Mohammad Shaban, of Hickory Hills, and Akram Alshoweat, of Oak Lawn, allegedly battered and robbed a woman they believed to be a lesbian on June 28, 2010, outside a restaurant.
West Allis, Wisc., is bracing itself for a neo-Nazi rally and counter rally by several groups on Saturday. The neo-Nazi National Socialist Movement called the rally to protest alleged black-on-white violence.
Former FBI Special Agent Ted Gunderson died of cancer July 31, 2011 at the age of 82. After retiring from the FBI, Gunderson was better known for his outlandish conspiracy mongering. In 2009, Gunderson said the federal government had set up 1,000 internment camps across the country and stored 30,000 guillotines and a half-million caskets in Atlanta to dispose of American dissenters. Gunderson also alleged that Sonny Bono did not die from a skiing accident but was clubbed to death by a hit man.
