I think they knew that under the new law they would be held accountable if they and their followers/supporters acted on their beliefs. The GOP might not be listed as a hate group, but it certainly has come awfully close to being one at times. And until the American people repudiate this sort of behavior at the ballot box, it's going to continue to get worse. I wouldn’t count on public figures countering this bigoted nonsense, not when groups like the Republican Governor’s Association goes looking for contributions by purchasing subscription lists from white nationalist militia newspapers.
