Anti-Muslim Activists Gather In Tennessee to Warn of Shariah

By Leah Nelson on November 12, 2011 - 10:54 am, Posted in Anti-Muslim

A coalition of national security hawks, Christian activists from both here and abroad, lawyers and GOP activists gathered on Friday at a Nashville-area megachurch notorious for hosting spectacles to discuss strategies and tactics for combating the “threat” that Islamic Shariah law supposedly poses in the United States.

Following an invocation and prayer, speakers at “The Constitution or Shariah: Preserving National Freedom” – hosted by the Shariah Awareness Action Network – wasted no time getting down to business.

Disgraced former FBI agent John Guandolo turned “counterterrorism expert” set the tone with a warning that an “insurgency” is underway in America. Guandolo – whose vitriol was highlighted in a 2011 National Public Radio report on anti-Muslim propaganda in law enforcement training after he falsely suggested that a Jordanian-American professor had links to terrorists – alleged that many American mosques are complicit in a seditious Muslim Brotherhood plot to dismantle the Constitution and establish a global caliphate.

“There is no First Amendment protection granted to somebody who wants to impose foreign law on you,” he told the audience. We are at “war” with radical Islam, he said, and “the enemy is right here in your neighborhood.”

Next up was David Yerushalmi, the legal mastermind behind anti-Shariah laws that have been introduced in a number of states (including Tennesee), who outlined a “lawfare” strategy to battle Islam. Appearing by video, he urged lawyers in the audience to go on the “offensive” and take a “hard-nosed” approach in their efforts against the imposition of Islamic law – and to prepare for vicious attacks by the Muslim Brotherhood and the “Muslim Brotherhood-progressive syndicate that has formed around the issue of Islamophobia.”

Many of the speakers – particularly Americans who had spent time overseas, such as David French of the American Center for Law and Justice, who specified that the enemy is “jihadist Shariah” – stressed that there is a difference between radical Islam and law-abiding Muslims. Yet the overall message of the conference was that no Muslim who attends mosque can ever really be trusted.

“Islam is about a political agenda,” radio talk show host Steve Gill declared. Though he allowed that there are Muslims who aren’t prone to violence, those who are observant, he said, are obliged to be. “We’re told that these are people who are not trying to recruit and do evil things in our communities when they build these mosques,” and “we’re told that these mosques are peaceful and tolerant,” he said.

But “if you’re following the Koran and being a good Muslim, it may not be possible to be a good, civilized, modern, peaceful, tolerant, accepting person, because that’s not what the book prescribes. What Islam needs, in my humble opinion, is a Protestant reformation,” he said. “Until and unless that happens, there is only one Islam, and it is not peaceful and tolerant.”

Frank Gaffney, head of the anti-Muslim Center for Security Policy, cast the matter in Cold War terms. Renewing his calls for the re-establishment of the House un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), Gaffney, who served as an assistant secretary of defense during the Reagan administration and has repeatedly called Islam “communism with a God,” said that Muslims are following the same “playbook” as the Soviets did, infiltrating and subverting democracy from within. Their chief “agent of influence,” he said, is anti-tax hardliner Grover Norquist, who in Gaffney’s weird imaginings is part of a “red-green axis” of radical leftists and Muslim Brotherhood agents conspiring to destroy America.

Gaffney closed his presentation with a slide featuring a picture of a young Ronald Reagan testifying before HUAC. “Knowing what you now know,” he admonished a rapt audience, “you have an obligation to go forth and multiply and do no less than Ronald Reagan did in his day, because communism with a God is even more dangerous than it is without it.”

To emphasize their point about the dangers Islam poses to America’s “Judeo-Christian heritage,” the conference’s hosts imported a raft of Christian activists from across the globe. Justin Akujieze, a Nigerian Christian who is affiliated with the Chicago-based Coalition of Igbo and Biafra Organizations, spoke of sectarian violence against Christians and the growth of radical Islam in his home country. “Christiandom,” he said, has turned its back on his people – and America is their “last hope.”

Paul Diamond, a British lawyer who advocates for Christian causes and describes himself as a “street fighter with a posh British accent,” spoke admiringly of “American exceptionalism” and his fears of a Muslim takeover of Europe. Diamond expressed hope that Christians in America and the U.K. would stand “shoulder to shoulder” to battle the dual enemies of Islam and anti-Christian sentiment, warning that “What’s happening in Europe could be coming to your state.”

According to most of the conference’s American presenters, the situation here vis-à-vis Shariah/Muslim infiltration into our system is already pretty dire. Tennessee Freedom Coalition co-founder Andrew Miller declared that the Muslim Brotherhood has targeted his state because it is the “buckle of the bible belt.” ACT! for America National Field Director Kelly Cook – who said he “wish[es] there were walls around this country – especially on the Southern border” – warned the audience they’d have to draw on all their resources to “preserve America in the upcoming battle.” And Tennessee State Rep. Rick Womick claimed that Muslims are invading South America through Venezuela, and said that confidential military sources had told him there are “sleeper cells” in the United States already. Womick drew a standing ovation with his declaration: “We cannot have Muslims in our military because we cannot trust them.”

Other speakers alleged that radical Muslims are taking over the education system, starting with colleges and working their way down. “From the Ivy League to the community colleges and everything in between, we pump gas and they pump poison into the mind of our children,” ACT founder Brigitte Gabriel said. Muslims, she claimed, are “doing exactly what Hitler did” – targeting younger and younger children for “brainwashing” until they create an America-hating army of proto-radicals.

The conference was sponsored by a motley crew of anti-Muslim organizations including Gaffney’s Center for Security Policy, Joseph Farah’s far-right online publication World Net Daily (WND), and the ironically named Religious Freedom Coalition, which declares itself “dedicated to the equality of all mankind and the freedom of religious expression.” Among the co-sponsors were the Traditional Values Coalition (a relative newcomer to the anti-Shariah bandwagon that has long been listed by the SPLC as an anti-gay hate group); Pat Robertson’s American Center for Law and Justice; and Vision America, a network of “Patriot pastors and Patriot Partners” with a history of gay-bashing.

By accident this morning, I came across Pat Robertson’s show, which featured an interview with some Pastor who was describing the SPLC as “one of the most dangerous elements in the country.” I was stunned. It was in this context that I came to this blog. I worked in Carter’s 1976 Campaign + knew Morris Dees very slightly. I’m so happy to find you.

    Lucifer,

I’m not having any trouble “comprehending” your position, I’m just not buying it. Let’s recap a couple of your comments:

“… The Islamic religion and the Muslim people are the fastest growing race and religion around the world right now especially in Europe.”

Several people, including me, pointed out the serious fallacy in that statement. You responded with:

“DM, I guess that was a misstatement on my part , but I think you get the gist of my meaning.”

I wouldn’t call it a “misstatement,” I’d call it a Freudian slip. The “gist” that I get is the underlying prejudice that equates Islam with “other races” that don’t belong in “our” Europe — oh, sorry, I keep forgetting, you’re an American. (And since I’m revisiting this comment, I’ll also point out that there’s widespread disagreement on the question of which religion is the world’s fastest-growing, in part because statistics on religious affiliation are notoriously unreliable.)

As for those links you posted, they aren’t “proof” of anything except your anti-Muslim animus. Indeed, they suggest that you’re more Geert Wilders’ advocate than the devil’s. And you lose all credibility by lining up with the Christian Action Network, a crazily Christian-right group founded by one of Jerry Falwell’s former associates. (There’s a nice summary about their anti-Muslim campaign at http://www.talk2action.org/sto.....122325/799.)

In short, propaganda is not evidence. So I’m sticking with my assertion that all talk about the “threat” of shari’a is fantasy, whether it’s pure paranoia or part of a deliberate attempt to whip up anti-Muslim passions.

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

No, they wouldn’t. Do you know what Sharia law is used for in Russia, for example? Outside of Chechnya it is primarily a way for a boyfriend-girlfriend couple to move in together without actually getting married. Typically the young couple doesn’t care, it’s only for the benefit of their parents or grandparents(many of whom suddenly became religious in 1991). The marriage isn’t recognized by the state.

Many who look favorably on Sharia law don’t necessarily want it to be the law of the land; they would just like the option. However as immigrants come to the west, they typically reject the traditions of their home countries.

  • Charles Austin

There has been no greater dissembling of the Constitution in our country than that which has been done by right wing radical Christians who are far and away the greatest threat to human rights and liberties that we face today. Evangelicals are the true terrorists and extremists of our time.

But preference does not lead to reality.

Your circular logic is bordering on lunacy.

DM , I guess that was a misstatement on my part , but I think you get the gist of my meaning .

Ruslan Amirkhanov , I am aware of that also . Not all Muslim people want to live under Sharia law anymore than people in the United States , but I’m sure some would welcome the chance .

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

Dick, the only evidence you have attempted to provide was easily debunked. Now you are claiming to have evidence of these terrorist camps, including their location, and yet you are withholding this information from law enforcement for some reason.

PLEASE, tell us: Why haven’t you reported these camps to law enforcement?

  • CM

    Lucifer,

By the way, “Muslim people” is not a race.

  • Dick Lancaster

We call it “creeping Sharia” for a reason. The Constitution is only as good as the people elected to defend it. An oath of office is still taken to defend the Constitution but as you can see by the present Congress and administration, an oath is not taken seriously anymore. In order for an oath to carry any authority at all there has to be some sort of integrity to the oath-taker. The more we accomodate Islam, the more sharia you will see.

Many useful idiots are aiding the radicals because they want to avoid the label of islamophobe. There is nothing courageous or moral about defending those who want to kill you. Radical Muslims are recruiting in our prisons and military. They have a conference in Chicago each year since 2008 to plan our overthrow. Militant training camps have been in the US for some time now and they operate with virtual immpunity lest the authorities be accused of discrimination. Look it up. I do all my “proving” in my articles. Look them up. This format is a commentary post. I regret that I cannot write major articles here but I would be wasting my research on a substantial number of closed minds.

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

Lucifer, Islam is not a “race”. Moreover, many Muslim immigrants live in Western countries because they DON’T want to be forced to live according to some religious authorities.

  • Lucifer

CM , you impression is as wrong as three fat women in a hot tub . So yes , you’re mistaken and no I won’t pardon you . Maybe you can’t comprehend what I’m saying so let me break it down for you.

Some people would love to have Sharia law installed into the legal system . I’m simply saying to do so will have greater ramifications later down the road if they did . I also brought up the violation of civil rights if they did .
Go back and re-read what I said earlier ” I said let me play the devils advocate for a minute ” .

Do I think Sharia law will be brought into the American system , no I do not for many reasons one being what I have already said , and two being our elected are window licking idiots and can’t handle the pressure .

  • http://www.twitter.com/AronL, Aron

    Lucifer,

Wait a moment. Did you just call Muslim people a ‘race?’

I think I’ll be able to find your credibility in the same place as Dick Lancaster’s…

  • CM

    Lucifer,

I’m getting the impression from your posts that English is not your first language. Pardon me if I’m mistaken, but it would also suggest an explanation for why you seem unable to understand the U.S. legal system.

The imposition of shari’a here would require not only the abrogation of the Constitution but also the abandonment of the whole federal and state courts system and the unemployment of all of the nation’s judges and lawyers. (I know, some people would consider the latter a good thing, but let’s stay serious here.) I don’t know how many American judges you’ve met, but they generally are people who take even less well than average to having other people usurp their decision-making prerogatives. So that’s one more reason why the whole notion of shari’a being imposed here is just paranoid fantasy.

    Lucifer,

Dick has absolutely zero credibility here. And since all he really does is make up stories, I think we’re safe.

Actually Dick brings up a valid point, The Islamic religion and the Muslim people are the fastest growing race and religion around the world right now especially in Europe.
When a group grows in faith and population it’s a fact that they are going to push for more.

So Dick does make a valid point in that matter. Also a person cannot deny the increase in the “home grown ” activities going on here along with the influx of American foreign fighters now in Somalia shows a propensity.

  • http://www.twitter.com/AronL, Aron

    Lucifer,

Dick has absolutely zero credibility here. And since all he really does is make up stories, I think we’re safe.

And so long as there are no threats, as I said before, there is nothing criminal.

  • Lucifer

They can ‘plan’ to do whatever they want. So long as they don’t carry out anything, there’s nothing wrong. They’re words.

Really , how about that ” Patriot Act ‘ . And that little law thats used now called ” Making terrorist threats ” . A lot have been jailed under that for ” just words ” .

Speaking of ” just words ” how about the assasination of American citizens in Yemen for ” just words ‘ .

  • http://www.twitter.com/AronL Aron

    Dickie,

They can ‘plan’ to do whatever they want. So long as they don’t carry out anything, there’s nothing wrong. They’re words.

Speaking of just words, how ’bout them terrorist training camps?

  • Lucifer

I don’t trust it , if it were to be allowed . I don’t trust Congress or the president or anyone else to not allow it to override the Constitution .

The Constitution is moot when the suits deem it so . Past and present presidents are proof of that . All of them have violated it in one form or another .

Politicians are like children , you give them an inch and they’ll take a foot .

  • Dick Lancaster

Frank Gafney, a Democrat, served in the Carter Administration. This conference is held to warn America of the growing threat of Islamic fundementalism in this country. It is already out of control in Britton and Europe in general has finally woken up and put some restrictions on their Muslim immigrants.

Since 2008 radical Muslims have met in Chicago to openly plan the destruction of the US. You don’t hear about it because the media doesn’t report it. Better to allow the planning of the destruction of the US than to rerport it and be called an “Islamophobe.” This is the mentality of a lefist media.

And for the umpteenth time, there is NO separation of church and state in the constitution. That phrase came out of a Thomas Jefferson letter. The First Amendment intent was to prevent the ESTABLISHMENT of a state religion such as the Church of England or, in contemporary times, sharia law. This is PRECISELY what radical Islam REQUIRES.

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

I don’t know how many times you need to be told, but Sharia law will NEVER exist in America outside of unofficial courts which will be mostly for marriage purposes. No such ruling can override the US Constitution and statute. These courts already exist in a number of non-Muslim countries and they have no official authority.

  • Lucifer

I meant ” NAACP ” not ” NAACO ” I don’t the think the ” Natl Assoc for the Advancement of Colored Otters ” really cares .

  • Lucifer

While sitting and stoking my heater I started thinking . I see many opinions being aired here and frankly I’m along the lines of ” No ” to Shariah Law in the United States , and I have my reasons . I’ve also seen a few call others ignorant and such , so let me play ” the Devil’s advocate ” here a minute .

What is the SPLC , ACLU , NAACO , SCLC , or any of the other ” Civil Rights ” organizations and other groups that ” keep a watchful eye on ” hate groups ” going to do when and if ” Shariah Law ” is allowed on our soil and the first Muslim homosexual is dragged out into the street and stoned or beheaded . Or what is going to be done when the first ” honor killing ” has taken place because a young Muslim girl wanted to go to the prom with non-Muslim . Or said Muslim girl gets pregnant out of marriage . And God forbid the wife gets jiggy with her boss while the husband is on a business trip .

Don’t say it doesn’t happen because it does . I’ve been to a few Muslim countries that have ” Shariah law ” and it takes place . Once we have allowed it in , it’s here to stay .

Also , while we’re on the topic of ” Civil Rights ” , will Muslims will have the opportunity to pick between the American justice system or Shariah law .The typical non-Muslim American citizen will not have that liberty , so is that fair , I wouldn’t think so . Has anyone advocating for this considered that .

I stated earlier that our leaders can’t even enforce the laws we already have , and pick and choose which parts of the Constitution they like . Adding more to it is just going to be more infringement on our rights as citizens .

So my vote is ‘ hells to the no , leave Shariah law where it belongs ” , in Muslim countries where everyone can enjoy it . Lets stick to the ” Devils ” we know , that reside in DC .

Shariah Law has no place in the United States , we already have our own laws and Constitution and our leaders already have problems enforcing those laws correctly . So why on earth would we want to give them more to muddle their feeble minds .

“Shariah is a threat and so is the anti-American, anti-White, and anti-Jewish hate group known as the SPLC.”

Apparently you skipped the notion that the SPLC was in fact founded by Jewish civil rights attorney and has listed several black as well as some jewish nationalist hate groups, but reading and researching beyond the level of a dyslexic kindergardener must be a frustrating and disheartening reality, so I won’t hold it against you for not being able to find this!

“They label anyone as being “far-right” if they have the brain cells to see just how much Socialist, Marxist, and Islamist garbage the SPLC shovels around…”

Ahh, yes, or rather being able to call them (far-right) for what exactly they are and harbor, which isn’t anything resembling functioning brain cells or common decency. Islamism as you describe is in fact closer to the authoritarian, reactionary babel your spewing right now, and socialism and marxism are some desperately empty ad hominems to utilize in the Age of Obama; would you care to define or specify what you think and than what they actually mean?

I’m a member of the “far-right.” The SPLC are members of the “far-gone.”

Yes, ‘far gone’ in putting the disorderly status quo back under the rule of law and winning justified lawsuits to innocent victims of their destructive and incoherent worldviews. Too bad the same can’t be said for the objective retardation present in the preceeding comment.

“I don’t know under what rocks they live, but these lowlifes who crack on concerned Americans would easily raise their IQ’s by100 points if they could just kept their bigoted grills shut – although they would still have minus signs preceding their quotients.”

How you could view such ‘rocks’ is easily explicable if one’s own mind is a metaphorical wet match in the bowels of the darkest cave. Of course, we’re all ‘concerned’ Americans, but those of us with manifest I.Q.’s above 100 believe and try to abide by decency, respect and due process in having (actual) issue and concerns addressed. You see, sincerity and emotional appeal in propagating what are objective lies, half-truths and misperceptions doesn’t make you a ‘concerned’ American as much as a demagogue and sociopathic liar in need of psychiatric attention. Pointing it out is actually the initial sign of existing intelligence, denouncing it suggests morals of a sort, and rampant denialism is probably the knee-jerk kicking of the medically-defined ‘ mentally retarded.’

“But, hey, I do admire their abiliity to type while dragging ther knucles along the ground.”

As you should! It was of course you and your elk’s retrograde genes and anatomy that made it a de facto evolutionary option and complimentary style to stay such a way. As long as we keep you from all those socialist/marxist concepts of car keys, sharp objects, large sums of money and any sort of electoral position of authority, I think we can keep you admirably confined to the comment section on an Internet forum, where you can be a real performance artist for us to pity and fearless at!

Allow me to do it for you and advise you to stay away from all sharp objects, car keys and any sum of money to boot! For those that still subscribe to the Obama birther/muslim fringe-ology at this time (while insisting on their inactual ‘anti-racism’), an insanity asylum separate from productive society is only too good a resolution for them. Oh, and ‘Kemp’? Hmmm, that sounds awfully similar to a truly apocalyptic and scary book I once heard of, but I can’t recall its complete title or author…

  • IThink

For those of us seeking rational political discourse and non-revisionist historical lessons, the secular writing and passing of the U.S. FIRST constitutional amendment makes the imaginary threat of Sharia Law or any religious persecution/totalitarianism a non-entity; our Founding Fathers made any number of errors but separation of church and state was not one of them (I say this as a Christian for all my life; democracy can and MUST triumph democracy). But than again, there is no amending true human stupidity or ignorance, so we only have the completely necessary evil of government and rule of law to hopefeully get right what most indeed do wrong.

  • Mitch Beales

John it would be politically incorrect to call you crazy but it is clear that you suffer from mental illness. It seems likely that you suffer from Paranoid Personality Disorder. If you have a problem with Sharia law you really won’t like any crazy religious laws that are not supported by the Constitution. For example, there is a city bus line in NYC where there was a sign telling all women to move to the back. Apparently, it is because Orthodox Jews think that men should not look at the back of a woman or something. Authorities have taken notice and the bus company said it will end this segregation. I consider both extremist Fundamental Christians(like John Kemp) and “Jihadist Shariah” as “threats” to our country. Both are dangerous to our American society.

“They label anyone as being “far-right” if they have the brain cells to see just how much Socialist, Marxist, and Islamist garbage the SPLC shovels around..”

You sure are confused. Marxism and socialism are LEFT-WING. Islamism is far-right.

“I’m a member of the “far-right.” The SPLC are members of the “far-gone.”

I know you’re a member of the far right; I can tell by the ignorance, and your fear of your own shadow.

“I don’t know under what rocks they live, but these lowlifes who crack on concerned Americans would easily raise their IQ’s by100 points if they could just kept their bigoted grills shut – although they would still have minus signs preceding their quotients.”

    Cry more.

“But, hey, I do admire their abiity to type while dragging ther knucles along the ground.”

Funny coming from a guy who can’t construct proper paragraphs.

“Shariah law is NOTHING like JEWISH law. Jews are not demanding foot baths, removal of guide dogs, piggy banks, Piggly-Wiggly, logos and ice cream that look like “Allah” in Arabic, and dozens of other bogus “insults” to Islam.”

You are highly confused. First of all, you need to provide some evidence of your claims. Second, not every isolated complaint, assuming it happens, has anything to do with “Shariah” law. Christians in the US constantly demand special accommodations; sometimes they get them, other times they don’t.

“What people are talking about is called “Creeping Sharia” – like when Muslim students who chose to enroll at a Catholic university demand that crosses be removed because it makes them “uncomfortable.”

    PROOF please.

“These are not isolated incidents. They are happening in every city and in every nation.”

Well then in that case you should have no trouble providing reputable, corroborated evidence for your claims. Seem I’m a bit skeptical because I live in a nation and city with a far higher Muslim population than wherever you live, and we have “Shariah” courts here, and yet somehow this “creeping Shariah” doesn’t seem to be doing anything. Hell, yesterday I was buying meat from a Muslim butcher, and the guy had pork for sale.

“Sariah law is the antithesis of our Constitution.”

Any religious law is the antithesis of our Constitution; which is why no religious court, Jewish, Islamic, or otherwise can override US law.

And though I am preemptively calling BS on a number of your claims, I repeat that some Muslim demanding footbaths somewhere isn’t proof of “creeping Shariah.”

Face it, you are a cowardly, fearful, and gullible person. Maybe if you actually got out and got acquainted with some Muslim people, you might learn something, and having that fear lifted off your back might make you a happier person. But I doubt that will happen, because the fear and your personal internet crusade give you a sense of purpose in life.

    Pretty sad.

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

No, I’m sorry, I’m not done yet. John, you just made my week and it hasn’t even started yet. Ok so let’s try to break this down. A Muslim gets in the white house. Well it can’t be Obama, because we know he’s obviously not Muslim. So who’s he running against? Maybe Cain or Romney? Neither are Muslims. So this give us at least till 2016.

Now let’s ignore reality so we can imagine your scenario in detail. Muslim gets in the white house, suspends the election for some reason. Meanwhile, out of a fear of offending someone(“political correctness”, according to conservatives), the Congress, the military, the vice president, and the American people just sit back and let the president basically destroy the US Constitution, the very document he would have sworn to defend, the document that he has no authority to overrule?

This is much like the fantastic events of the Left Behind novels, they literally cannot happen, because they require people to do things that they would never do under any circumstances.

I just have to visualize this:

President Haydar Abdullah: My fellow Americans, I have an important announcement to make this night. See, many of you voted for me believing that I am a typical Sunni Muslim, born in this country of course! Actually, I am a radical Salafist, and I am going to turn America into an Islamic theocracy, even though I have absolutely no authority, neither from the US Constitution, nor any school of Islamic jurisprudence, to do so.

Marine guard 1: We need to DO something!!

Marine guard 2: I CAN’T!! Someone will get offended!!

Jesus, John. You REALLY believe that?

  • Gregory

    “john kemp”, you are crazy.

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

Don’t worry John, I’m not going to call you crazy. I’m going to call you incredibly gullible.

How about if some Jews enrolled in a madrassa (not in this universe, however,) and want the Koran removed because they felt “uncomfortable” being called the offspring of apes and pigs who must be exterminated?

These are not isolated incidents. They are happening in every city and in every nation.

Sariah law is the antithesis of our Constitution.

We are in extreme danger of a Fundamentalist Christian takeover in this country, which I believe would have rules similar to an extremist Muslim society.

Under normal conditions thats’ right ,now add a muslim in the white house coupled with the political correctness mood in the country today .And you have the perfect storm .They saying there might not be be an election now . If they can cancel a presidential election anything is possible do a web search on Agenda 21 .Then you can tell me I’m crazy !

It’s times like these I have to break down and say, if you live in the USA, and particularly in Tennessee, and you are afraid of Shariah law taking over your society, you are an utter moron. Moron, imbecile..I don’t know how to adequately describe how stupid one has to be to believe such things without offending innocent people in the process. Where I’m living, Islamic marriages under Sharia law are available and even existed in the Communist time. My wife was first married via “Shariah”. Guess what- as far as the state is concerned, she was never married at all.

This is true of all secular countries where Shariah courts exist. They are no different than the Jewish courts which have existed in America for years. No Shariah court can ever supersede the US Constitution.
