I have read the articles on the 21 Year sentence given Brandon McInerny for killing Larry King, a gay 15 year old. I find that I have mixed feelings about the trial and deep feelings about the hate crime.

IMHO, McInerny got off lightly. He could be back in the the world by the time that he is in his late 30′s. have completed 14 years of post-graduate education in hate and find many friendly white supremacists inside, indeed,He could network among others of like mind.

I have served as a volunteer chaplain in both an Intake center and in a high security prison. Even in Super-Max they had a large law library for the use of the inmates. The library is heavily used in suing the state for minor or trivial infractions of the law. I have also met felons who are actively attempting to turn their lives around..

what galls me here is that these felons carry with them the stigma of their hate crimes while society at large is being organized to support the racial hatred. Our gun laws in most states make it possible for anyone to own and carry lethal weapons. Our Legislators are supported by lobbyists who keep our insane gun laws. There is a large group of mainline conservative churches who within the last 10 years have communicated to their mailing lists a mandate to vote and lobby against hate crime bills because they are afraid that they could be arrested for hate crimes for actively preaching against homosexuals.

If we, you and I, desired to take a stand and change laws about gun ownership and licensing.

This is icing on the cake. Sure, Brandon McInerney, needs an attitude adjustment but the world is full of victims and losers who pull the triggers but unless we get mad enough to stop the hate mongering that winds up the bullys and potential murderers nothing will change. .
