Anyway, my point was that the US goes to great lengths to hang those foreign war criminals who offend the United States, even when they’re probably innocent, so it should not look the other way when US troops commit atrocities.

Do you think what the Japanese did to American and Allied troops was ok during the Pacific War? What about when those Blackwater mercs were strung up over that Baghdad bridge in ‘03?

What about Mogadishu in 1993? Was the ‘Blackhawk Down’ incident acceptable from the standpoint of the Somalis? Because what these Marines did in Afganistan is NO DIFFERENT.

I don’t care that you’re sick and tired of hearing us civilians complain about your attitude. As has been said so many, many times before, freedom of speech does not entail freedom from criticism.

The USCMJ doesn’t distinguish between combat troops and non-combat troops when it comes to the desecration of a corpse.

While I have never experienced combat, and Bob-willing, I will never have to, I am an military historian. And I have many friends who HAVE seen combat, many of them proud Leathernecks (like I would imagine you to be). To a man, every single one of them has expressed disgust at this event.

There is simply NO excuse for this wanton desecration of an enemy’s corpse.

Now, if this had been, say, Muslim soldiers from Saudi Arabia urinating on the body of one of our dead soldiers, of course the outcry would have been immediate. What Geller doesn’t get, and never will, is that a human being is a human being, no matter what side of a conflict they’re on. This is why so many countries have signed on to the Geneva Convention, among other things.

A better analogy would be ‘Black Jack’ Pershing’s wars in backwards countries. He was made General of the Armies for his sins.

I know we’re all a little hypocritical regarding that ‘Golden Rule, turning the other cheek, and letting the Lord’s vengeance be his’, but there is absolutely NOTHING right or justified about what these marines did, period. 9/11 was a horrific tragedy, and the Islamic radicals who commited and planned it deserve an eternal reservation in Hell, but this sick, twisted treatment of war captives, innocent or otherwise, is morbid beyond comprehension.

No wonder the world (i.e. everyone not living and born America) rejoiced the night of Obama’s election and the exit of Baby Bush; if they hate us because of the ‘Ugly American’ stereotype that things like this project in their worldview, than I say to damn right for feeling that way.

I’m old enough to look at the tension in the country and know that we have to stabilize things or our grandchildren will be fighting each other in the streets in America.

The hate has to stop.
