What a garbage dump of disinformation and censored opinions. How many comments do you censor a day? Probably 50:1 and your organization either writes the comments that agrees with your analysis or you pay someone else to do it. This site is such a joke and I can never make it through a whole “article” if you can even call it that. SPLC is the definition of the Ministry of Truth. Tell me censor.. are you happy since you decided to sell out? Is it fun to lie and distort in order to influence the mostly ignorant yet innocent minds of the public? Does it make you feel powerful? If it were me I would be sick to my stomach with guilt.

The JBS is carping about all of this because the Koch brothers are involved. They’re terrified of any country that they might be doing business in protecting the environment because it hurts their bottom line. I propose we call the “Patriots” who are involved in all this conspiracy theory crap what they really are. We should use terms like “tool”, “corporate shill” or “right wing bozo” because they are not Patriots. Patriots love their country, and at least respect their government because they know that the only rational way to change it is through elections. These people believe in armed insurrection and seccesion both of which are illegal so they are not Patriots. It’s time we got the word out of right wing hands and brought it back to its true definition.

Give the John Birch Society credit for successfully warning America that Eisenhower was a Communist.

Don’t believe me – well, look at modern media standards as applied by Glenn Beck, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, et. al. and then look at the top marginal tax rates under Ike. Add in the National Defense Highway Act and tepid support for Civil Rights and he definitely was as red as they come.

Those wild-eyed socialist liberals William F. Buckley Jr. and J. Edgar Hoover both thought the Birchers were bonkers. Buckley once called founder Robert Welch “paranoid and idiotic” and worked like a Trojan to purge the Republican Party of their influence after the Goldwater debacle. Hoover had his agents keeping an eye on the JBS for years as he considered them potentially subversive. In a 1961 memo, he described the JBS as “an irresponsible organization.”

This sort of thing helped keep the Birchers marginalized for decades, until Rupert Murdoch gave them Fox News as a pulpit to preach their madness to people with no knowledge of history.

The John Birch Society has been a (thankfully) contained gangreene patch on the body politic since the moment it sprung forth as a brain child of Robert Welch, Jr. I’m all for ‘freethinking’ and the pursuit of happiness as far as those statements go, but a rabidly anti-communist (an oxymoron in this day), fundamentalist Christian, Constitutional Republic dipstick cult crusading as a ‘legitimate and patriotic’ political advocacy group is what the hell is wrong with the entirety of the New Right nowadays. Fox News can claim being ‘Fair & Balanced’ until George Orwell flips in his grave and their dittoheads can screech about the ever-elusive, likely imaginary liberal media bias until Judgement Day, IT’S NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE ‘FACT’ that the TRUTH has a LIBERAL bias, and that reason has become anathema for them.

These wingnut trolls have been crying wolf, wolf, wolf! about these marginal and fringe Commies since the end of WWII, and we’ve passed through the Civil Rights, feminist, counterculture movements and the endlessly overrated Cold War with no ‘real’ elimination of that ideology to speak of, as if it was ever going to work past being a (rather ideal) political theory in the first place. Other than that, it has been a blight on society. And after having listened to my friends in the Society drone on and on about the UN, I can only conclude they’re all fools.
