Dan Zabetakis ~ Lively’s ‘protected speech’ was not MADE in the US, it was made in Uganda while he held himself out to be an expert on the subject of Gays molesting children. His speech is subject to the laws of Uganda, not the US, regardless of the fact that he is a US citizen. He was there for hire, as an expert in his alleged field of knowledge. I hope they added fraud as charge in this lawsuit.

As for Frances ~ who do you think WROTE the bible? Do you think God came down and wrote this stuff out? Nope, sorry. Men wrote it and edited the heck out of it. Lots of people claim inspiration from God, including many athletes who thank God for the touchdown/basket/homerun. The King James bible leaves out much of what was written because it was deemed ‘less important’. (Check the gospels of Thomas just for starters.) A king in England and his scholars made the decisions over what you claim to be the word of God.

And if you want to use the bible as a reference, Jesus said “Love the sinner, hate the sin.” That doesn’t mean killing people because they were born gay. Not in ANY language.

The Bible also says that the so-called sin of Jesus’s crucifixion should be visited upon the Jews and the children of the Jews, so, using your logic, frances, Hitler was wasn’t preaching hatred or committing a crime when he called for an performed genocide against the Jews — right? He was just quoting what was said in the Bible.

He probably loved everyone too, I’m sure.

Pastor Scott is only quoting what is written in the bible. The SIN is the problem not the people. Pastor Scott loves everyone,judging is NOT him.

Slanderers get by just so long as they avoid putting the names of their victims to their hate propaganda. The minute they mention an actual public figure, they are subject to actionable charges of libel.

Right now they are feeling safe by simply applying a scary label to people they do not even know. If they publish their slanders, they can be sued for libel. In the case of child abusers, everyone knows that crime is committed almost exclusively by heterosexual men, and insane ones at that.

It is a coward’s trick to get attention and deflect criticism away from their own sins against persons. In that way, it serves to frighten people in the same ways as requests by Nazi groups for permits to parade through neighborhoods where Jewish citizens live.

“Your opinion is a death sentence in Uganda, and if you had your way, in this country as well.”

The problem is that the issues of whether homosexuality should be illegal or whether the punishment should be the death penalty are political issues. As such, views for or against these propositions are protected speech.

Unless he is advocating extrajudicial killings it is not wrong to express his opinions, even if I oppose them.

I can’t see that a court in the US would get beyond preliminary hearings before this suit is thrown out.

along with making sure that opinion made it into Parliament and probably shaped the Kill Gays law. Your opinion is a death sentence in Uganda, and if you had your way, in this country as well.

Lively’s latest statement, “speak my opinion about the homosexual movement” is also patently false: in the video of his Kampala conference he states “I probably know more about this subject the anyone else in the world.” This is not a statement of “opinion”. He cites his stories, “facts” and :figures” as “gospel”. He has made the same statements in Latvia, Russia and Moldova. He provides theories and proposes “cures” without any training in psychology whatsoever. He goes hand-in-hand with discredited “researchers” Paul Cameron and Joseph Nicolosi.

And they are all tied to Family Research Council and American Family Association.

I doubt this will get very far. It will be very difficult to show a direct connection between this guy and any specific acts in Uganda. He can’t be held responsible for bills passed by a foreign legislature. He can’t be held responsible for acts of a foreign executive. Yeah, he may be a turd bucket, but his views are protected speech in the US and I don’t see any way around it.

Within the United States, group libel is, to too great an extent, deemed protected by the First Amendment, but where it results in violence, official or not, it should be at least civilly prosecutable. In this case, there is a nexus with international law; even without that, I’d say those mealy-mouthed deniers were either conspirators or accessories before to murder.

My God, at times I’m sure that some of the peoples’ of the Earth have gone completely insane.
I’m just 55 yrs. old but it seems all my life there has been nothing but wars, assassinations, riots.
I’ve become cynical and almost a misanthrope but I am grateful for SPLC. How you at SPLC keep from becoming cynical is beyond me.
