Kentucky Supreme Court Upholds SPLC’s Verdict Against Klan Leader
Posted By Hatewatch Staff On March 16, 2012 @ 4:09 pm In Klan | 14 Comments
Ron Edwards has seen his once-sprawling Imperial Klans of America (IKA) dwindle to nearly nothing since the Southern Poverty Law Center won a $2.5 million verdict against him and a lieutenant in 2008. Now, Edwards sits in a federal prison on unrelated gun and drug charges. This week, he got more bad news. The Kentucky Supreme Court refused to hear his appeal [1], meaning the $1.3 million portion of the verdict assessed against him personally will stand. The ruling closes the book on the SPLC case, which was filed on behalf of a Latino teen who was brutally beaten by IKA members at a county fair.

Congratulations! Hope this and your other victories stand as strong precedents against other groups that seek to pawn off their responsibility of their actions on individual members.

Cases like this are why I started supporting the SPLC. It’s not just because I agree with your viewpoint, but more so because the SPLC is effective.
What prospect is there of collecting the $1.3 million?

Does this mean the the IKA wont have enough money to buy an ad on Rush Limbaugh’s radio program?

Godlesspanther,
I hope the SPLC left the IKA just enough money for that auspicious purchase ;)

I can’t wait until that Latino kid gets handed the title deeds to the IKA’s real estate, and he can bulldoze their property.

Good, I’m glad to hear he has gone bankrup, but he deserves worse. You guys did a fine job dealing with him.

GOOD news! SPLC deserves lots of credit for “taking on” the Klan and winning.

The law suit and money verdict against the Imperial Klans of America proves on thing to violent white supremacists and to the United States. On This is not the 1920s,’ 50s or the ’60s or the Lynching Era and ferment of those hateful, bloody days. Violent race hatred has a big reward today. Jail, prison, hefty fines, even the death penalty. Like haters Bull Connor and other imperial wizards before Edwards, Okayed bigotry is dead and relegated to history, not the 21rst Century.
