Reynardine
Your conclusions would make a good suppository - that's where you can put them.

There is no reason that the Oath Keepers ever, ever needed to hit the radar screen of SPLC. Asking military and police to keep their oaths and refuse to ever go the path of Khmer Rouge, Nazi Germany or Eastern Bloc communism (right or left - take your pick) and never assault their own citizens doesn't make them "extremist," let alone a "hate group."

That SPLC and others are gloating in having found an exception to the rule of its law-abiding membership, I find quite offensive, and once again, completely off the stated purpose of SPLC.

I'll state it once again: Find a -hate- group would you please, and stop your nasty trick of positioning affinity groups that are not "politically correct," along with actual, confirmed -hate- groups. At least create a new category and name it honestly: "otherwise harmless groups that we don't condone in our prejudices."

How is instilling honor (oath keeping) in the men charged with our defense a bad thing? When no race, color or any other object of hatred is employed?

Just what are you trying to accomplish with this? I am outraged.

From the comment you made Reynardine, it sounds like you disagree with me, which would mean that you think the politicians in this Country are doing right by the people they were elected to represent. Do you think they are honoring their oath of office, have you seen the debt lately, do you think we as a Country can continue in the direction we are going in much longer? Oath Keepers is a Government watch group, and like any other Gov. watch group you have to talk tough if you want anybody to listen. If it wasn't for Gov. watch groups, we would have lost our freedom along time ago...

Whew, the psycho babble is so thick here you can cut it with a knife. Oh, I shouldn't have said knife, now I'm an extremist! What I can't understand is why they keep calling the Oath Keepers anti-government. All they want is for Gov. employees to honor their oath. A person shouldn't make a promise, or take an oath, if they don't intend to keep it. I don't think that's an anti-government position to take, it sounds more like their anti-government corruption...

Interesting that Roman perceives an article indicting a single member of Oath Keepers as somehow a charge that ALL Oath Keepers must be molesters as well despite no words or inferences to that effect.
As Reynardine correctly points out, conservative authoritarian personalities (RWA) tend toward "pathological dimensions manifested in violence and distorted psycho-sexual development" (Boshier 1983) "sexually aggressive behavior" (Walker, Rowe, and Quincey 1993), "rape justification and aggression toward subordinate individuals" (Muehlenhard 1988).
What she (I'm assuming) didn't say however is that they also have tendencies for making black & white over-simplifications such as condemning or trusting entire groups, races, religions, etc, because of the actions of one or a small minority of them. eg. 'Islam is a terrorist ideology because OBL and the 9/11 attackers are Muslim - and terrorists'. This fear of ambiguity/need for certainty is thought to perhaps be a self-defense mechanism they (subconsciously) employ meant to reduce complexity down to a more easily knowable few items -- this due to fears RWAs have that threats, chaos or violence likely lie in wait wherever new laws, unfamiliar people and strange traditions are allowed to exist, hence their consistent defence of the status quo power structure no matter how badly in need of reform it may be, and their opposition social reform movement like the 60s civil rights movements to their strident opposition today against gays getting married.
This need for simplicity has taken the form here of Roman perceiving the denigration of one pedophile who belongs to a larger group as somehow smearing that group as well. This is a demonstration of why it is extremely foolhardy to put high-RWAs in a position of authority over others.

Roman may have a point about the SPLC painting the Oath Keepers with a rather broad brush...but...there seems to be a abundance of articles in Hate Watch that I have read that seems to show a pattern of, shall I say, sexual deviance from select members who join these "off the rails" extremist groups.
The point I get from SPLC reporting on these types of illegal behavior is that a lot of these extreme groups are populated by people whose house light is on, but no one's home.
Most of these groups don't attack the kind of individual that I would like to associate with, and I think most readers of this email and column are made of the same cloth as me.
What I think SPLC is trying to say about these groups is that most of these "Hate" groups or "Extreme Right Wing" groups boarder on illegality. The leaders of these groups cater to a mind set that, in some cases, cares little about our laws or Constitution, and will commit violent or illegal acts in the name of some perceived outrage.
I applaud SPLC for keeping track of these groups, and the individuals associated with them. The information they provide in this newsletter speaks volumes about the dangers this country faces as long as these groups attract the kind of members that SPLC reports on and the criminal acts these "members" commit in whatever fabricated outrage they believed was foisted on them.

Sorry, Roman, though not every authoritarian personality engages in physical and sexual abuse of their families, most such abusers are authoritarian personalities.

I have a misdemeanor trespass because my big, black hunting dog pulled me through a breach of the cemetary fence when I was walking him, without my glasses, on a lightless road by night. That's it. I feature that would be equivalent to the rap sheet of most people here.

Could this propaganda be anymore obvious?

Statistically speaking, I bet one member of the SPLC has a criminal record. Should we condemn the whole organization because 1 member is a criminal?

Argue against the ideology of the Oath Keepers. Don't paint them all as rapists as a cheap shot.

Aron, with the advent of Viagra, it may not be.

I suspect that if one were to give suitable tests to sexual predators, they would rank high on both RWA and SDO traits; that is, they would turn out to be extreme authoritarians with considerable delusions of privilege over their victims. This goes double when they select family members, especially their children.

I think it's about time that the Federal, State and Local law enforcement, takes these anti-government extremists seriously. It was clear from the beginning that Dyer got off easily, either was slapped on the wrist, or simply slipped through the cracks of Justice, before taking his dangerous criminality to another level. Isn't stealing a grenade launcher and as a Domestic Terrorist as Dyer already is, while in possession of a weapon of mass destruction---serious enough?
