By the way, I once met an older woman from Spain — and who was therefore by definition “Hispanic” — but she had blue eyes and red hair! Again, I think “Hispanic” is generally used as a euphemism for “Mestizo” — and that is what is usually meant by the description of someone as “Hispanic.” (I don’t think “Mestizo” is a bad word, by the way.)

First of all, SPLC has covered bias crimes committed against whites. Second, can you show proof of bias crimes against whites not being prosecuted as hate crimes?

Hispanic wasn’t listed in the “race” category. It asked, “Are you Hispanic?”, then it proceeded with black, white, etc.

SLPC does mock coverage of anti-white hate crimes… but i’ll agree its not ALL SPLC fault. In lots of states and under federal hate crime law there is no protection from white people, so if its never recorded its like it never happened except to the victims family’s….

Hispanic is not a “race”(it’s not an ethnicity either). And I don’t think, I know, that you are a moron.

My .02: Hispanic and Latino are umbrella terms that came about as a result of a 1976 Congressional mandate to count people of Latin-American, South American or Spanish-speaking Carribean descent as a single group for statistical purposes. It is not a race, this is why the Census Bureau addresses it seperately from race.

First, there has been tension between blacks and Hispanics particularly in California for many reasons. They’ve been going back and forth for years in SoCal. Second, Zimmerman can a rainbow with mustard stripes. His ethnic background doesn’t matter. As for the MSM calling G.Z. white, I guess they thought that because of his surname. Then again, as Ruslan pointed out, Hispanic is not a “race.” You can be black and Hispanic (black Cubans) or white and Hispanic (white Argentines).

The outrage is not at Zimmerman as at the good old boy power structure who decided to sweep the whole thing under the rug. Aside from that, “Hispanic” is a cultural and linguistic construct, not a racial one. Zimmerman’s mother, if memory serves me, was Peruvian. She may have been “white” or not…the method of defining that in most Spanish-speaking countries is more a matter of appearance and affiliation than of ancestry. In any case, that is immaterial. You do not have to be “white” to be racially motivated against a nonwhite. If you are what you purport to be, you were at one point defined as not “white”, and here you are, being bigoted.

While I would like to believe you, I have run into FAR too many cruel and stupid people to place the blame entirely on nurture. Nature has some responsibility, too.
