Neo-Nazi Newspapers Distributed Near Scene of Racially Charged Attack

By Hatewatch Staff on April 27, 2012 - 7:32 am, Posted in White Supremacist

Some residents in a Mobile, Ala. neighborhood found white supremacist newspapers on their front lawns Thursday morning, five days after the racially charged beating of a white man by a group of about 20 African Americans.

According to witnesses, the attack on Matthew Owens, 40, came after Owens confronted and displayed knives to children who had chased a loose basketball into his yard. But witnesses also said one of the attackers said, “Now that’s justice for Trayvon,” a reference to Trayvon Martin, the unarmed teen who was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Florida.

One of the racist newspapers obtained by WPMI-TV was a 2009 copy of The Aryan Alternative, a periodical originally published by Alex Linder, founder of the white supremacist website Vanguard News Network, and Glenn Miller, a former Klan leader.

Linder seems to be unaware of who distributed the newspapers.  Yesterday, on Vanguard News Network, he asked if anyone on the forum knew anything about it. He said that “we haven’t published it [The Aryan Alternative] in years” but that he’s “certainly in favor of the paper being distributed there and everywhere.”

A former member of the neo-Nazi National Alliance, Linder was arrested in Knoxville, Tenn., in 2007 after he attacked a police officer during a neo-Nazi rally. He was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, vandalism and assault on a police officer. He reportedly pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and got six months’ probation. Since leaving the NA, Linder has worked closely with other white supremacists and has a particular interest in protesting what he claims are “anti-white hate crimes.”

Miller was one of the first white supremacists to use paramilitary tactics with his group, the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan (based in North Carolina), which later evolved into the White Patriot Party. In 1986, Miller went underground after mailing a letter to 5,000 people calling for “total war” against the feds, blacks and Jews. He was also in violation of a court order that stemmed from a lawsuit brought by the Southern Poverty Law Center that prohibited Miller from operating a paramilitary organization. He was arrested after a nationwide manhunt but served only three years in prison because he testified against 14 other leading white supremacists in a 1988 sedition trial in Arkansas.

Mobile police have arrested Terry Rawls, 44, in the beating of Owens. Police said today that three or four more arrests are possible.

Rawls and Owens have a history of conflict dating back to 2009. Mobile police spokesman Christopher Levy said the beating was a result of bad blood between the two men and had nothing to do with Trayvon Martin’s death. Owens, who remains in the hospital, has been upgraded from critical to serious condition.

Yes Jason, did you notice that the recent attack on that white dude(which was reported by the SPLC but deemed not good enough by you) ended with the perpetrators being ARRESTED?

  • Reynardine

Jason, such incidents, when they hppen, are usually local incidents of petty crime, as are most incidents of intraracial violence. This one came to national attention because of police malfeasance. If it got displaced by another story, it’s because “news” is, by definition, new. The politics of the reporters have nothing to do with that.

  • Jason Smith

The Trayvon Martin case has been displaced by the blind Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng story. Have you noticed that? The mainstream media has several news cycles of varying frequencies. A story gets old after a week or two and gets replaced by another story. So they’ll go off on a frenzy about this new story for a couple of weeks, we’re all supposed to worry about it, then they’ll go off on something else. That’s one thing they do. Mainstream media is very liberal. So another thing they do is screen out only those stories that match their world view. Stories of white people being attacked by blacks is something they rarely publish nationally. It doesn’t “fit”.

    Happy Mayday, folks.

“Stalin was more of a state capitalist, with extreme views on how to accomplish a “perfect” society (in his mind), than a communist.”

Really? Please post the relevant Stalin quotes where he talks about creating a perfect society? Also, Trotsky neither industrialized the Soviet Union, nor did he defeat fascism. It’s easy for Americans to look at the progress the USSR and China made and just dismiss it. Many people living today in both countries disagree.

P.S. Totalitarianism is a made-up word with no concrete meaning. It became popular as a sophistic way to equate Communism with Nazism, thus making liberal democracy look better(particularly by severing the complicity of capitalism and liberal democracy from the crimes of fascism). One cannot make fun of Tea Partiers who equate Communism with Nazism and still believe in the veracity of such words. They are merely taking a page from an old liberal playbook.

I must agree that both Stalin and Mao, while self-proclaimed communists, were totalitarian butchers (the “progress” they achieved was at the expense of millions of lives, and thousands of dissidents were tortured when they sat at the thrones of their respective empires). Regardless of the death count (some estimates include the famine, blaming them on government agricultural policy) or “winning the war”, Stalin routinely violated human rights (by which I don’t mean land expropriation), as did Mao, for reasons of political suppression. That being said, most Communist publications that I have read (and I have perused a few, mostly online) are anti-Stalinist, and several are anti-Maoist as well. Trotskyist newspapers, such as the Workers’ Vanguard of the Spartacist League, don’t support either Stalinism or Maoism (though I don’t adhere to their philosophy).

Stalin was more of a state capitalist, with extreme views on how to accomplish a “perfect” society (in his mind), than a communist. His self-designation (much like “national socialist”) didn’t mean much.

    Welcome back, Ruslan.

“So what? Communists distribute their rag newspapers all over college campuses and everywhere they can. ”

Their newspapers are of a higher quality than the Aryan Alternative. For one thing, the AA is full of shit. Second, it is a downright bizarre publication mainly because it is really designed for VNNers. I know that’s not the intention but if you look at the material it is full of things which VNNers would understand right off the bat(because they all inhabit the same world of delusions), but which would make normal people(including conservatives) say, “HUH?”

“Mao murdered 60 million of his own people.”

Wrong, and since when did you care about Chinese people anyway? Imagine how many millions people like you would deliberately murder either directly or indirectly, all because they weren’t born into the right “race”, as defined by you, if scum like you came to power. I bet you relish this thought, but White Nationalists are so incompetent that if they ever had a sliver of a chance of gaining power, they would destroy one another first.

    “Stalin murdered about 20 million.”

Definitely wrong, but don’t worry, you wouldn’t consider a lot of those people to be “white”(in those days, nobody did).

‘Stupid’ was the wrong word there. Should have written ‘silly.’ Did not mean to offend.

  • Jason Smith

Remember guys, that every Nazi group should be suspect as the FBI is know to set up fake organizations; vis-a-vis ABSCAM of the 1970s and COINTELPRO.

If it’s not a complete FBI fake setup, the FBI certainly has moles in the group who are paid informers and are probably leaders in the group. Because those leaders have access to membership rolls.

  • Aron

Communism is right-wing? That’s as stupid as claiming National Socialism is left-wing. Surely you jest?

  • A.D.M.

Jason loves to hear himself talk. He’s too stupid to know Neo-Nazism and Communism are both right-wing ideals. Idiot.

  • CriticalDragon1177

The people who publish The Aryan Alternative want to call it a “newspaper?” If that fifth is a newspaper, the National Enquirer is trustworthy. Its hate filled propaganda is what it is.

  • Reynardine

Coryphodon, a mammal that lived in the Eocene, had formidable teeth, weighed half a ton, and had a brain that could have gone through the post on two first-class stamps. It was the stupidest mammal that ever lived, and I always thought it went extinct as soon as something else got big enough to eat it. But maybe not.

  • Reynardine

Maybe Jason Smith is not a committee. Maybe Jason Smith is a mosquito that can talk.

  • Jason Smith

So what? Communists distribute their rag newspapers all over college campuses and everywhere they can. Mao murdered 60 million of his own people. Stalin murdered about 20 million. Nobody every worries about Commies today distributing their raggity pink sheets around colleges.
