Utah is a “sovereign nation”? When did that happened? I know for a very fact, that Maricopa County, AZ (the largest county in the U.S.) is its own country unto itself. It has been a year since he was released from prison. While that would afford White some opportunity to amass documents and funds, there is no proof that he is in Iran. If he has left the USA, then he may have slipped through one of our porous borders. I’m guessing that the Montana militia would give him support, but that’s just my best guess. He would be much less obvious physically in Canada than in Iran. Oh! Poor Canada!

Reynardine, I suppose there might be, but his Facebook page specified the city in Iran. Plainly there is no reason to believe this information, just as there is no reason to believe that he works as a “Consultant” for “FARS News Wire,” an agency that doesn’t seem to exist, but whose name sounds enough like a real Iranian news service, FARS New Agency, to keep people guessing. The fact that White is posting information that appears to specify his whereabouts is a good reason to disbelieve that information, and to perceive it as a (bumbling) attempt to throw police off his scent.

While as I said it is plausible that he has gone to Iran, after further consideration, I think he is still in the US. The key quote is his statement “a foreign nation that shares my view that the United States government is not legitimate.”

That doesn’t apply to any country that I know of. No country, even our worst enemies, not even the non-state terrorists, thinks the US government in non-legitimate.

The only people who think that way are extreme Baggers and the kooky right. He’s holed up in some enclave which has declared independence from the US and which we have probably not heard of before. I expect he’ll be found eventually.

Well fluency in Arabic wouldn’t work in Iran- Farsi is an Indo-European country. That being said, he’d probably have an easier time if he did, because the alphabet is based on Arabic and the intelligence services alone would have no shortage of Arabic-speakers.

I’m telling you he is in the States. Bill White is not Lee Harvey Oswald and Iran is not the USSR. Mr. White has a very ignorant view of asylum and visa restrictions. He has nothing to offer the Iranians and since he can’t speak or read Farsi(the learning of which would be a herculean feat for someone his age), someone from the government would have to babysit him all week, every day. What is the Iranian government supposed to get in return? Anti-Israel blog entries? I think Iran can make those on its own, in English no less.

Also there is the question as to how he would manage to do this and then get settled so easily. Travel to Iran requires a visa, which takes about 7-10 business days to grant(and that’s just a tourist visa). Then factor in a flight, booked more or less close to the date of departure, which costs somewhere in the ballpark of $850 MINIMUM. So if we imagine that he wasn’t redflagged for being on probation, or imagine that there was a mistake in the system, it is rather foolish to believe that White made this trip to Iran, not knowing if he would even get asylum or not. Remember, this isn’t Ireland or UK, where people speak English and in the case of the latter it is quite easy to stay so long as you can get in.

Now let’s say White went into the Iranian consulate in the US and asked for asylum. Again, they would have to consider his reasons and what he might have to offer. He has nothing. Iran could just as easily offer free publication to any number of anti-Semitic cranks in the US and get White’s services free of charge or for an extremely small fee.
