Longtime White Supremacist to Serve on Penn. County GOP Committee
Posted By Leah Nelson On May 30, 2012 @ 2:41 pm In Racist Skinheads | 50 Comments
Steve Smith, a longtime racist activist with a history of violence and top-level ties to numerous white nationalist hate groups, has been elected to a 4-year term on the Republican Party’s county committee for Luzerne County, Penn., One People’s Project reports.
Recruited into the neo-Nazi movement while he was stationed at Fort Bragg in the 1990s, Smith, of Pittston, Penn., has been active in an extraordinary array of white nationalist, skinhead, and neo-Nazi groups, including American Third Position [1], Keystone United [2] (formerly Keystone State Skinheads), and the Council of Conservative Citizens [3]. He is a former Aryan Nations [4] member and former leader of the Philadelphia chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of White People, which was created by former Klan leader David Duke [5] but is no longer associated with him. Smith also belongs to a Pennsylvania-based group called the European American Action Coalition (EAAC), which according to its website was formed in fall 2011 “by a few well known White activists in the great and historic state of Pennsylvania.”
In a January letter published in the Wilkes-Barr Times Leader, Smith wrote, “Many experts predict that, if current trends continue, whites will be a minority in the United States by 2050; some predict it can happen sooner. If this prediction comes true, it will be catastrophic to our country and well-being. The European American Action Coalition is committed to reversing this anti-white trend. The coalition is an organization dedicated to educating, advancing and defending our culture, rights and heritage.”
Smith’s ties to the racist right stretch far beyond the political. In 2001, he co-founded a racist skinhead group now known as Keystone United (which was until 2009 known as the Keystone State Skinheads, or KSS), one of the largest and most active single-state racist skinhead crews in the country. In March 2003, he and two other KSS members were arrested in Scranton for beating up Antoni Williams, a black man, using stones and chunks of pavement. Smith pleaded guilty to terrorist threats and ethnic intimidation and received a 60-day sentence and probation.
To advance his goals, Smith has distanced himself somewhat from his violent past and focused on political activism. As state chairman for American Third Position (A3P), a white nationalist political party that aims to deport immigrants and return the United States to white rule, he has for several years been working the crowds at local Tea Party gatherings, which he once described as “fertile grounds for our activists.”
In October 2010, he led a delegation of A3P activists in presenting the party’s position to a Scranton Tea Party group. “We explained that the A3P was formed to represent white Americans, who have been denied representation for decades,” he said in a press release on A3P’s website. “We provided them with a true alternative to the typical dead-end conservatism with which so many of these concerned and partially awakened Americans are involved.”
Also in 2010, Smith was the center of a major flap [6] within the anti-immigrant movement, when William Gheen [7], head of the nativist extremist Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), pulled out of a series of rallies celebrating Arizona’s then-new anti-immigrant law because their organizer was a friend of Smith’s. At the time, Smith’s Facebook page indicated he was a fan of a Swedish white nationalist singer named Saga, whose ditties have included “Goodbye, David Lane.” Lane, a convicted terrorist who died in 2007 while serving a 190-year prison sentence for conspiracy, racketeering and his role in the assassination of Jewish talk show host Alan Berg, remains one of the most revered figures in the white nationalist movement. He came up with the famous “14 Words” slogan: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for White children.”
Smith announced his election to the Luzerne County GOP committee six days ago on news forum called White News Now. The news was greeted with enthusiasm by members, one of whom commented, “This may seem like just a small step now, but this is how we are taking our nation back and it’s how we will secure a future for our people. Everyone needs to look to Steve’s example. He’s a true patriot!”
As a committee member, he will have a say in the selection of the Luzerne GOP’s County Chairman and Executive Committee, who, according to the party’s website, “oversee and direct all of the activity of the Republican Party in the County.” Luzerne County GOP officials did not respond to a request for comment on Smith election in time for publication.

A neo-Nazi as an active member of the GOP? Quelle surprise!!!
And to all of you tea-addled silly geese who claim there’s no racism in the TP movement? Sit on it!
#2 Comment By greg On May 30, 2012 @ 4:15 pm
making a claim….anyone can do it. actions and history prove the lie. funny how white supremacists try to reframe their hate by saying its just about pride and protecting their culture….when really, everything they stand for is about privileging themselves at the stake of other human beings. ‘rights’ that depend for their very existence on the degradation and denial of other peoples’ rights are not rights at all.
#3 Comment By Erika On May 30, 2012 @ 4:27 pm
Aron, the Tea Party would no doubt claim that he is a liberal plant. Especially since they believe that Nazis were actually Socialists.

I think I’ve had a run in with this guy somewhere else on the internet. He’s a typical WN pseudo-intellectual moron. Within the movement, he’s probably seen as a genius due to his ability to put two paragraphs together without cursing.

Now that one had me cracking up. Could it be that Mr. Jason Smith is the kinfolk of Steve Smith?

Shadow Wolf, the person(s) called Jason Smith is/are Steve Smith’s mandrake(s). On this fairly prudish blog, I shan’t be more explicit.

Not surprising at all. The Republican party is looking more and more like the party of nuts. Is there something in the tea they’re drinking?

If I remember correctly, the NAAWP was an organization of David Duke. However, despite the fact that it may still exist, It was pretty much entirely inactive for years. It may just be another vehicle for raising money for the gambling womanizer.
#17 Comment By Gregory On May 31, 2012 @ 3:32 pm
The Republican Party is often terrible about tolerating thinly disguised racism … calling Obama a “food stamp president,” “not one of us,” etc.
But they have been pretty consistent about publicly rejecting this kind of overt racism. I expect they will reject Smith too. If they don’t, it will be a trruly freightening development from a party that controls the House and many statehouses, and just get control of the Senate and White House next year.

The election of this white supremacist, Steve Smith is an example of how great this nation is that with all the hate that this man spewed, he could still be elected to a legitament party organization. “You better watch out, you better not cry.”
If we keep doing this, followers of Adolph Hitler might just take over the USA.
#29 Comment By Reynardine On June 1, 2012 @ 8:28 am
Mark, are you saying Florida panthers have started carrying guns on people? Maybe that’s the only way Puma concolor coryi is going to ensure its survival (wait till the alligators start pulling Tommy guns on the feral pythons. It’s dangerous in them thar woods).
#30 Comment By Ruslan Amirkhanov On June 1, 2012 @ 8:42 am
Actually Mark, the New Black Panther Party is listed as a hate group by the SPLC and they had a story about them a few months ago I believe. And an illegal gun in Florida? Please. If it had been a white conservative who had been busted for that we’d be hearing endless butthurt about Obama taking away his 2nd Amendment rights.
Racism against white conservatives? Please, show us some.

Considering that Nazi means Nationalist Socialist, this guy should be a Democrat. Of course a lot of Leftist activist have been planning on infiltrating the Republican party to create mayhem, so this could also be an example of that. Then there is the fact that the people of Wilkes-Barre & Scranton are some of the dumbest people of the planet – that’s where Joe Biden is from.

And yet, he’s a Teabagger. It’s almost as though he has a better grasp of his ideology than you do. Indeed, it’s almost as though reality trumps your own ignorance.
There are plenty of neo- Nazi groups in this country. Why not contact a few and ask them if they consider themselves leftists? You may learn something.

LETTER FROM THE LUZERNE COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE REGARDING STEVE SMITH:
Much news has been made recently regarding the election of Steve Smith to the Luzerne County Republican Committee.
Committee members can be influential in local politics, and frequently find themselves in the same room with State Senators and Representatives, District Attorneys, local Mayors, party nominees, movers and shakers, even members of Congress. Steve’s Smith’s expedited path to access Republican officials is quite disturbing.
However, it is really not the fault of the Republican Committee that he was elected. Without a candidate listed on the ballot who had gone through the petition process, write in candidates for committee offices only need a minimal amount of support to win. He got three votes: Steve Smith obviously does not represent the Luzerne County Republican Party in any way, shape, or form.
I’m sure some of us have seen Steve Smith’s letters to the editor in local papers, filled with pure hate, ranting against minorities and anyone else who doesn’t fit into his twisted world view. In fact, I find find his views abhorrent on a very deep and personal level. As far as I can tell, I don’t believe there is a mechanism for removing a committee person from either party from their position, as they were voted on by the public and those results certified by the election board. However, there are ways to minimize him over the course of his term, so that his election will have a negligible impact. We sincerely hope that the Republicans find a way to quarantine any political ambitions Steve Smith may have. No white supremacist should be anywhere near the inner workings of any party in Luzerne County.
The Luzerne County Democrats have no intention to bring Steve Smith up again because, frankly, his election isn’t merely a political embarrassment for the Republicans, it’s an embarrassment for the entire county. Speaking about Steve Smith not only distracts us from real issues, it legitimizes him and gives him more attention (something I’m sure he craves), and frankly he is making other Republican committee persons across Luzerne County who work hard and care about their country and their communities look bad.
We would rather speak on jobs and the economy, social justice and equal rights, and an America where everyone has a fair shot to succeed.
So, don’t give Steve Smith what he wants: this will be our first, last, and only word on the subject.

What does pride and respecting your race have anything to do with Hate??? Dont get it.
#43 Comment By Ruslan Amirkhanov On June 4, 2012 @ 11:45 am
Well first of all Duane, “pride” in your race is pretty stupid; for one thing, you didn’t do anything to be born into that “race”, and which “race” you belong to depends a lot on perceptions of the society you live in. For example, if you are Irish, you would not be considered white until about the 20th century.
The second problem is that contrary to what White Nationalists like Mr. Smith claim, their ideology is not about “pride” or “respect.” It isn’t hard to discover what these people discuss in private(or what they assume is private) and see that they are bitter, resentful, fearful people who seek simplistic answers to complicated questions, as well as in many cases utter morons who have no redeeming qualities. Ergo, they join a community where being “white” is in itself a redeeming quality.

Rusian,
So I assume that Black pride, Asian Pride, even Gay pride is a big joke because people are born into it. How stupid to be proud of ones heritage and who we are. It is far easier to be ashamed of our selves and our past. Especially if one is White!

Read a very interesting op-ed article yesterday in our local paper about religious liberty vs. religious privilege. It seems to me that many, if not most, of the author’s points apply in this case.
This is not, and never has been, about “pride” or “respect” or “heritage” or “culture,” this is about preserving (or regaining?) what one perceives as one’s natural status in the order of things. Men vs. women. Monogamous heterosexuals vs. others (many categories in this group, and antagonist hates them all!). Elders vs. youth. White vs. non-white. Minority vs. majority (be honest now). Educated vs. ignorant …you may continue at your leisure. All these with the possible exception of the second may be reversed – in the second case, I don’t think the targets really care what the antagonists do, they just don’t want to abide by imposed limits.
Mr. S. Smith seems to think that he has some sort of right or privilege to impose limits on others because of a dearth of melanin in his skin. I think that is a very silly position, myself, but popular among persons of his ilk. It also is in direct contradiction to both the Constitution of the U.S. and the Declaration of Independence, but that is not likely to bother him much.
No need for shame, either, Mr. Pierce, about what evil things other people of your “race” have done, unless you want to do those things too. The whole HUMAN race is guilty of a host of atrocities; I am only answerable for those I commit, and for those I incite or encourage others to commit. To CELEBRATE or PROMOTE those atrocities is shameful, however, and only you can know if you are guilty of that.

“So I assume that Black pride, Asian Pride, even Gay pride is a big joke because people are born into it. How stupid to be proud of ones heritage and who we are. It is far easier to be ashamed of our selves and our past. Especially if one is White!”
The concept of black pride arose because in case you hadn’t noticed, being black was treated as a very bad thing for a long time in US history(it still is, but ignorant folks like you prefer to ignore this). Black pride was a way for black Americans to regain their dignity in a society which has done everything to take it away. Whites don’t have this experience in America.
As for “Asian pride”, I haven’t really heard of it, perhaps because “Asians” know their specific nationality and cultures; e.g. Chinese, Korean, Filipino, etc. Only in America does this term “Asian” mean specifically “East Asian.”
As for gays, again you have a people who were suppressed and persecuted for decades who can finally admit who they are.
“White” people have no heritage. There is no country of “Whitania.” There is no “White” culture, there are no “White” folk dances, no “White” language. The history of classifying people as “White” and “non-white” is a history of oppression and ranking people.
Now have you ever noticed that nobody gets upset about Irish, Serbian, Polish, Scottish “pride”? There may be a reason for that.

Poor libs, can’t win an argument on ideas so they sling names. This guy got elected to the equivalent of a middle school hall monitor position in some town no one has ever heard of without a single Republican vote. Of course, the libs, grasping for straws, conveniently left that part of of the story.
Let’s not forget that the Democratic party, until his death in 2010, was the party of Robert Byrd. Whoops, that can’t be true, only Republicans are racists, right? How pathetic.
