Well, Bob, I can believe we have been dumbed down.

Redneck, the elder Bush was the older type of conservative. When all was said and done, he was intelligent and cosmopolitan enough never to doubt the planet was round, billions of years old, and went around the Sun, and he governed himself (and, to a degree, the nation) accordingly. Where he was with Barbara when they made W., I don't know, but the evidence suggests disporting themselves in an overchlorinated pool.

Jeb gave signs of considerably greater intelligence, but was not in line for the throne, either because of birth order, or (it is whispered) because his half-brother might be Vicente Fox.

Wait SPLC. George Herbert Walker Bush, supported Agenda 21? I'm confused. I thought the entire Bush clan (Klan?) was under the control of the "Radical Right?"

So the Bushes aren't considered right-wing racists if they support "smart-growth" policies that usurp private property and constitutional rights? Got it.

Thank God someone understands the outright THREAT to our nation the UN poses! Agenda 21 is NOTHING more than an effort to make us all equal and all must fit into a single mould. NO allowance for those who work hard, or put their talents to use in extordinary ways. No allowance for those who will take the risks necessary to obtain big rewards.
We can work with the sane ideas which the UN has, NOT those of the two-bit dictators who think they need to bring us down to their level even though we are paying too many of their bills and for lots of the things they steal from those who we are donating to.
We have dumbed down our next generation enough to think that simply giving up the rights our forefathers fought for and gave their blood for is a good thing if we can simply live like others do.
Well, just look at Europe collapsing, that is just a precurser to what will happen to us if we don't IMMEDIATELY doing what they continue to prove does NOT work! But the lessons which have been repeated many times throughout history are going to be repeated as the self-appointed elite make promises they can't keep while they steal our money and live VERY well themselves.

Creating a threat and then taking action to "thwart" it is a time-honored tradition among scoundrels. Unfortunately, there are people -- often a lot of people -- who believe this tripe. Definitely an argument for beefing up public education to equip the generations that are coming up to question nutty statements.

It's just as crazy with the Iowa GOP's platform. They have stated that they will oppose the creation of the Amero, the North American Union, and fight Agenda 21. I guess craziness is highly infectious.

Oh, dear, Carbonicus -- You really need to lay off the talk-show screamers. They have filled your head with strange notions that fail to track with reality.

I am an environmental consultant and I work almost exclusively with Fortune 500 companies. The majority of their concerns about environmental regulation is to ensure that they are applied equally to all emitters (that's emissions to the air, land, and water) so that they aren't competitively disadvantaged. You see, at the plant and national level (with the exception of some C-suites), the environmental, safety, and operations managers all live here. While environmentalism was once a "fringe" thing, the vast majority of manufacturers are proud of the gains they have made in reducing pollution and making manufacturing cleaner and more efficient.

Regulation isn't done on a whim. It involves drafts, comments on drafts, comments on new drafts, etc. The U.S. EPA has a fact sheet on the process. I would advise anyone who bitches about regulations, but knows nothing of how they are made, ought to check it out. It will make you a lot less easy to talk-show crazies to manipulate you.

I can also tell you, from first-hand experience (and I have been at this for 25 years), that it doesn't matter who they are -- Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Socialist, Black, White, You-name-it--if people believe that their drinking water is contaminated with carcinogens, they want it fixed, pronto! (They also are often furious that "the government" didn't do more to protect them, because, all of a sudden, they understand why regulators and regulations can protect them in the security of their own homes and persons.)

This concept that we cannot have productivity and a clean environment was debunked years ago. "Waste not, Want not," isn't some socialist mantra -- it's damn good business, and it makes sense on a household level, too.

Yes -- there are some players in industry (and some industries -- don't want to mention here) that are still dangerously out of control and need to be reined in in regard to poor (or criminal) environmental performance. However, as I already stated, the thing that gets MY corporate clients going isn't that they must comply with regulations -- it's when others slip out of them (as happened with electrical utilities in 2001 when Pres. Bush let them off the hook for air regulations that other sectors, such as the chemical industry, had already spent the big bucks complying with).

Some of the stuff touted as sustainability is silly -- but it is heading in the right direction. It's a shame that you are apparently too much swayed by the imbeciles of Fox News and/or talk radio to realize that using resources wisely is smart for everyone.

Also, what could possibly be a greater human right than the ability to live, work, learn, and play in a safe and clean environment? I'm glad SPLC is paying attention to this. Environmental Justice helps all of us -- even you, sir.

In the 1960's, a last ditch selling point to permit construction of a Mall was that, in case of nuclear war, with a few feet of plywood, a Mall would make a good fortress for what's left of the local government to operate from. Likewise, in an economic catastrophe, it's likely any Fema camps, empty sports stadiums, or what have you would only be accessible for people of means, who could afford the admission fee, and the rest of the population would be the ones left "wild in the streets", as they say.

So Carbonicus,

What's 'pragmatic environmentalis?' Because I get a strong feeling it's a whole lot more Malthusian than anything the 'sustainalchemists' are pushing...

Also, you sure made a lot of claims in your post. But did you present a single piece of evidence to back up said claims? I'm hearing crickets and watching tumbleweeds roll though town, friend.

Snarky article. Sustainabilchemy isn't going to save anybody or any species from anything. In geologic terms, regardless of our "carbon footprint" or "deforestation", in a few million years the earth will shake humans off like a bad case of fleas....a surface nuiscance.

What you really have here in the environmental movement overreaching, with the light of day finally being shone on the wrong priorities and misanthropic policies of Leftists.

Those of you who are on the sustainabilchemy kick, one example to prove my point (one. there are dozens).

The US government has spent over $100 BILLION of taxpayers money on "climate policy" since 1999. (Eco-socialists, please do not challenge this figure. This is an Obama administration CBO number). Meanwhile 1-2 billion people on this planet live off less than $1.50/day, live in poverty, have insufficient clean water, food, are dying from easily-preventable water-borne diseases, and cook their food over dung when they've cut down all their trees for fuel. And guess what, environmentalists; instead of actually targeting these environmental ills effecting humans, you wasted $100 BILLION on something that is inconsequential to humanity.

Worse, it is documented that because of your "carbon" (Kyoto) and "sustainability" policies, people in Africa and India have been killed in the name of carbon offsets and population control.

Meanwhile, the best you people can do is link to thinkprogress and rightwingwatch.

The story behind the snarky Leftist article here is that the gig is up. We are exposing your environmental Malthusianism and socialism one non-crisis at a time. And when this happens, it ain't about the GOP in Alabama, it's about you environmentalists.

Here's a tip for you neo-environmentalists: You are not fighing the "fossil fuel lobby". You are fighting empirical evidence, logic, reason, the laws of physics and economics, the sunlight disinfecting your green utopia.

You will be dragged back to pragmatic environmentalism, kicking and screaming or willingly. Your choice.

What you really have here in the environmental movement overreaching, with the light of day finally being shone on the wrong priorities and misanthropic policies of Leftists.

Those of you who are on the sustainabilchemy kick, one example to prove my point (one. there are dozens).

The US government has spent over $100 BILLION of taxpayers money on “climate policy” since 1999. (Eco-socialists, please do not challenge this figure. This is an Obama administration CBO number). Meanwhile 1-2 billion people on this planet live off less than $1.50/day, live in poverty, have insufficient clean water, food, are dying from easily-preventable water-borne diseases, and cook their food over dung when they’ve cut down all their trees for fuel. And guess what, environmentalists; instead of actually targeting these environmental ills effecting humans, you wasted $100 BILLION on something that is inconsequential to humanity.

Worse, it is documented that because of your “carbon” (Kyoto) and “sustainability” policies, people in Africa and India have been killed in the name of carbon offsets and population control.

Meanwhile, the best you people can do is link to thinkprogress and rightwingwatch.

The story behind the snarky Leftist article here is that the gig is up. We are exposing your environmental Malthusianism and socialism one non-crisis at a time. And when this happens, it ain’t about the GOP in Alabama, it’s about you environmentalists.

Here’s a tip for you neo-environmentalists: You are not fighing the “fossil fuel lobby”. You are fighting empirical evidence, logic, reason, the laws of physics and economics, the sunlight disinfecting your green utopia.

You will be dragged back to pragmatic environmentalism, kicking and screaming or willingly. Your choice.

And this is how we DO NOT deal with such problems as 200+ "Dead Zones", at the mouths of 200+ Rivers around the world......but then that's due to the over-use of Agri-Chem, to feed a Too Large, Too Quickly Growing Glbal Population; and, well, we wouldn't want to do anything like Tell Property Owners that they can't spray so much crap on their lands anymore, or Spend Federal Dollars buying Condoms for people too poor to buy their own...oh no, no, no, Not THAT!
Why That Would Be Doing What Jesus Would Do!
I guess these guyz n galz (Shrimpers?) down in Alamaby never heard oof any of dem dar 'dead zones', of Jezuz...

Lewis,

Farrakhan is not associated with the NAACP in a leadership position. He's associated with the Nation of Islam, which the SPLC does list as a hate group.

Not that we'd expect you to actually READ THE DAMNED WEBSITE or anything...

You're right, Red Diaper Baby, but that little bit is called Mobile, and it's re-e-e-al low.

I know about North Carolina, by the way. Maybe their legislature doesn't like Cape Hatteras much. Also, the Chincoteague ponies are good swimmers, but they better get better.

Once again, Virginia says "thank you Alabama for making us look slightly less foolish."

But the funniest thing about this is that apparently no one in the Alabama State Legislature has ever heard of the "just compensation" clause of the Fifth Amendment.

Louis Farrakhan is not left-wing. He also doesn't hold much political power in this country, at any level. State GOP representatives are more likely to infringe on someone's rights than Farrakhan. Does that help you understand?

Uhh, Gottlieb: Alabama doesn't really have a sea coast, except for a little bit at the bottom, on the Gulf. You're probably thinking of North Carolina, where the legislature has apparently made climate science illegal: coastal communities are not allowed to consider the projected rise in sea levels in their plans. (http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2012/05/31/493086/north-carolina-bill-would-require-coastal-communities-to-ignore-global-warming-science/).

Since it's been 21(as of this December 26th)years since the USSR folded up due to its own contradictions, one wonders how long the Paranoid loons of the right will continue to flog "a dead horse"?

Why is this issue even addressed at the $PLC to begin with?

I guess it too is right-wing hate.

By the way, why isn't Louis Farrakhan at the NAACP not make them a hate group? Any Republican group that allowed in David Duke would be classified as such by the $PLC in five seconds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYame5yVkuw

There are serious credibility issues at the $PLC.

Why not address left-wing hate? That's OK here it seems.

I assume this Alabama law will keep the sea level from rising along the Alabama coast from climate change since the the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is involved with this global event.

I don't mean to burst any bubbles, but Alabama isn't the only laughing stock to emerge out of this right-wing drift toward idiocy. I'd say that the entire country is made the laughing stock of the entire civilized world by the blathering of the most moronic and cerebrally challenged among us.

Not quite sure as to where the blame lies within the scheme of things, but I don't recall this country being in the type of tailspin it is in at this moment before the various religions began to insert themselves into the political discourse of the country. I'd say we are shooting ourselves in the foot from the pulpit.
