If he actually is mentally ill, perhaps this might actually cause some people who follow such extremists (including religious extremists) to begin asking some tough questions about who they really are listening to.

Mental illness always makes me feel sad for the sufferer — but more sad for the people on whom they sometimes inflict real punishment. Unfortunately, unlike persons who suffer from mood disorders (depression, anxiety), and often do seek treatment, one of the hallmarks of many personality disorders includes an inability to accept that something is wrong.
