What I find most dismaying about persons such as Scott Lively (in addition to the whole, “kill the gays” thing, which really is an attempt to promote genocide and unleash all manner of witch hunting that will pit neighbor against neighbor and basically rip apart Ugandan society if it actually gets going), is this business whereby if someone says they don’t have a problem with homosexuality, or believes that gays and lesbians deserve to be treated like “real people,” that this automatically means that they are “discriminating” against Christianity.

In other words, whether you are a Christian or not, you are required to agree with them on homosexuality–and likely on everything else they consider important to their “faith”–or be branded as someone who discriminates against them or, considering Mr. Lively’s preoccupation with extreme measures, an enemy.

This is a thread that seems to be working its way through a lot of different types of arguments now (e.g., the Affordable Care Act, foodstamps, abortion/contraception, dinosaurs roaming around among our ancestors after disembarking from Noah’s Ark, and the like), and appears, currently, to be used by religious extremists. It is a dangerous mindset because it really does set those who embrace it to want to fight.

I very much hope that we aren’t going to begin seeing the sort of violence on the part of some religious extremists against women’s clinics and doctors who perform abortions bleeding (yes, literally bleeding) over into other areas. Unfortunately, as this type of visceral rhetoric continues to fan the flames of people who are already angry (and armed), I fear that we could see such violence. I just wish that those who incite such hatred and promote such black-or-white thinking could be tossed in jail along with those whom they provoke to do their bidding.

Also, Erika should get a really pretty, solid platinum hammerhead sharkie charm (with tiny onyx eyes) to add to her charm bracelet for her impressive ability to present some of the legal underpinnings that bigots attempt to misuse.

It’s not arbitrary. Springfield, MO is the headquarters of the Assemblies of God – so he likely expects lots of support.

As a matter of fact, conservative editorialist Cal Thomas once saw in a rather fawning column dedicated to Branson that its shows promoted a “nutritious patriotism”–howbeit one on a par with what the Nazis were pushing through the Kraft durch Frude and, to a slightly lesser extent, Afrikaner Nationalists through the Reddingsdaadbond (“Rescue Action League”).
