They have enough to think about, they do not think about your issues. As far as they are concerned, you have always had the right to vote, ride in the front of the bus, and use the same restroom. You can hide being Gay, you cannot hide being Black.

In the first place, “Islamist” and “Muslim” are not interchangeable terms. Some Muslims are homophobic, and some are gay; some Muslims are Islamists, but most are not. It’s even possible that some Islamists are gay. Your kind of over-generalizing approach is what’s known as stereotyping.

In the second place, proof would still be a good thing. The Internet scholarship you’re advocating would net quite a collection of fake statistics and exaggerations perpetrated by the usual anti-Muslim suspects. It may be true that some of the violence against gays has been perpetrated by Muslims, but it’s also true that right-wing ideologues who don’t especially support gays have taken up this theme for their own immigrant-bashing purposes.

Finally, homophobia seems to be characteristic of religious fundamentalists of all kinds, Christian, Jewish, Hindu or what have you, in addition to the Muslim variety. So it isn’t a problem of Islam as such, it’s an issue of religious fundamentalism. But since that doesn’t advance anyone’s anti-immigration agenda, and since many of the Muslim-haters are fundamentalists themselves, it doesn’t get mentioned.

Yes — I don’t think that there is much public awareness of the fact that these folks basically are no better than the Taliban. Since they are a movement, not tied to a particular denomination, they aren’t easy for the “general public” to spot. But they are bent on establishing theocracy–and I think that some of the first people they will go after are other Christians who aren’t superstitious nut-bags. Interestingly, they are “multicultural and multiracial,” and have attracted and embraced people of all races and (sadly) some Native Americans, Native Hawaiians, and others who have participated in the burning of artifacts to remove “generational curses.”

Black Americans still have a long way to go and are more likely concentrating on their own issues, unless they themselves are Gay.

Also, I have noticed that older Black Americans do not equate the Gay Rights issue with Civil Rights. It’s their perogative (sic), but they’re the ones with the gray hair and I’m not going to argue with them.

My wife’s grandmother will tell you that although she doesn’t care about Gay Marriage, and she won’t tell Joe N. he can’t go to church, she has not seen a “straight / gay only” water fountain or bathroom situation, like the ones that she grew up with. And when Joe N. was baptized no one, and I mean no one, asked him to change.

It’s different to them, and I don’t blame them. She feels like black people still have a long way to go. Having a gay man in the family, and a few bi-sexual (young) nieces, helps spur this debate around the BBQ pit, it can get pretty spirited, but there is still love there.

However – trust me when I tell you that Black Americans are gay too. And the ones I know don’t hate themselves.

1) More and more murderous attacks on gays in Europe are being perpetrated by Muslims…far more than by Christians.

In Amsterdam it is now quite common for ‘observant’ Turk and Morrocan youths to swarm gay venues and to beat up the patrons.

In London, islamists have taken to declaring certain sections of the city ‘Gay Free’ zones, and they have been doing so with impunity. No Christians whatsoever are involved with these acts of hate.

2) One of the anti-racism crowd’s biggest constituencies, Black Americans, are perhaps the most resistant and homophobic when it comes to promoting gay rights such as gay marriage.

They also do what they called “spiritual mapping,” where they seek to identify “demonic influences” in communities. We have some of these folks in my neighborhood, and they identified one of my neighbor’s house as “demonic” (we don’t know why). Interestingly, they gave my house a pass. (For those of you who don’t know, I am a pagan and a practitioner of Wicca.)

Among the things that I find upsetting about these folks is how incredibly superstitious they are (as evidenced in this piece by Boykin’s assertion that the black patches in a photo indicated a demonic presence). And in addition to that, they practice a very negative form of magick in the burning of artifacts and praying for people to die (and proudly proclaiming that their prayers were answered).

I happened to have been discussing these issues with my brother the other day, and he thought it was utterly hilarious that a Wiccan, who actually does know about and occasionally practice magick, would consider the New Apostolic Reformation to be both ridiculously superstitious and practitioners of negative magick. However, he agreed with me. These folks are coming from a very fearful, very dark place, and even though they believe that magick is “wrong,” they apparently have no compunction about performing it in an attempt to “harm” their “enemies.” I don’t know any responsible, serious Wiccan, who has been practicing for any length of time, to engage in the sort of negative crap the New Apostolic Reformation people do, or who come from any wordview that has even the tiniest fraction of fear and hatred that these bozos come from.

I thank SPLC for bringing the New Apostolic Reformation movement to the attention of its readers. These people scare me way more than Sovereigns, Tea Partiers, or even most racists. Indeed, they have the ability to wreak substantially more havoc on American society in general than these other groups, loathsome though the racists, in particular, are.
