17-Year-Old Certified as Adult, Charged With Hate Crime Against Gay Mo. Woman

The 17-year-old suspect in the July 24 beating of a Cape Girardeau woman will be prosecuted as an adult, a judge ruled Tuesday, and officials wasted no time filing charges that included “hate crime” language because the victim is gay. Click here for full article.

    I’m a gay male and atheist and I don’t think any teenager should be tried as an adult. Its just wrong.

    The police say that hate crimes in Cape Girardeau are “rare.” What they fail to acknowledge is that hate crimes send a message to the entire targeted group that they are not safe, that they may be attacked and that some in the community would rather see them dead. All LGBT people are victims of this kind of hate crime.
