Facebook Heterosexual Pride Page Compares LGBT People to Nazis

By Hatewatch Staff on February 22, 2013 - 10:01 am, Posted in Anti-LGBT, Extremist Propaganda

Proud heterosexuals — a small and nameless handful of them, anyway – are on the march. And they’re not being very nice about it.

Back in June 2012, the Facebook page “Heterosexual Awareness Month” (HAM) was created to “celebrate heterosexuality.” According to the page’s administrators, who are anonymous (though one goes by “Dr. HAM”), July is “Heterosexual Awareness Month.” The page’s mission is to “educate the world, commemorate our heritage, celebrate our culture, and liberate our people.” The site goes on to say that Heterosexual Awareness Month is meant to highlight straight people’s “growing struggle of the rights and related civil rights put in jeopardy.”

The page includes status updates, images and comment threads that range from mild to genuinely offensive. And though Dr. HAM told the Huffington Post in December that “I would like to say we are not about hate in any way,” the facts seem to pretty plainly belie him. HAM moderators have posted comments about “the gay agenda” and baselessly linked homosexuality to pedophilia. They have posted Photoshopped images like the one of a gay pride marcher whose sign has been altered to read, “My Butt Hurts.” One post compares the “fertile garden” of heterosexuality to the “toxic waste zone” of homosexuality. Another urges gay people to stop “acting like animals” and “evolve already.” HAM allows most anyone who agrees with it to post comments. But you will be banned, it says, if you post “accusations of racism” or if you call women derogatory names. Comments supportive of LGBT people do appear on the threads, but are typically followed by anti-gay responses.

Now the site has gone one further. On Tuesday, its administrators posted an image ostensibly meant to educate readers in “Recognizing Hate Symbols” so they can know “what to look for when confronted by anti-democratic forces which continue to threaten our civil society.” The first symbol is a Nazi swastika. The next symbol is a rainbow flag, a representation of gay pride. And the symbol after the flag is a white power logo. The next day, it posted a mocked-up image portraying a Nazi soldier flying a rainbow flag, along with the following tagline: “They have ways of keeping you silent. Know the dangers of the rainbow.” A HAM administrator exhorted readers to print out the picture out and hang it in public locations.

Also this week, one of the status updates referred to their opposition’s “benign but perverse agenda.” Earlier this month, HAM posted a photo of a gay pride event and claimed that one of the men on a pride float was pointing at his next child love interest. In yet another post, HAM claims that accepting homosexuality leads to affirming it, which then leads to “something more perverse.” Comments on that post include the claim that gay people endanger children. One explicitly — and without scientific basis — links homosexuality to pedophilia: “[G]ay ‘marriage’ equals gay adoptions. Gay adoptions equals many sexually abused children.”

In November 2012, HAM posted an image with the words, “Gay marriage is nothing more than a pain in the butt. Avoid butt pain. Support true marriage.” Another “tip” from the same month: “Heterosexual tip #953: A colon is not a uterus.” A post in December 2012 cross-posted an image meant to warn about “gay bowel syndrome,” terminology coined in the 1970s that is now considered both derogatory and medically incorrect among many medical professionals. Another post features an image of the late Dr. Charles Socarides, a former president of the NARTH group that claims that homosexuality can be “cured,” and his infamous quote: “Homosexuality is a psychiatric disorder, there is no question about it. It is a purple menace that is threatening the proper design of gender distinctions in society.”

There have been complaints to Facebook about this page, but the organization has declined to take it down. Under its Community Standards, Facebook states that it does not permit hate speech, and that it does “not permit individuals or groups to attack others based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition.” Apparently, claiming that gays are pedophiles, sick, unnatural, perverted, and a danger to society and heterosexuals doesn’t meet those criteria, although Facebook did not respond to a request from Hatewatch yesterday to explain its thinking.

funformenonlyinsnow, we are still too busy laughing at your admission that your sum total of knowledge of sex came from the Pink Pussycat Theatre. Or maybe we are laughing at your claim that you found the lesbian scenes non-appealling which likely means that perhaps you would be even more happy in the Rooster Theatre in Onancock which features no women at all.

  • JOEL

Us the MODERN afroamericans men need that the federal government and south poverty law center concentrate efforts in the education of the afroamerican community about the civil rights of afroamerican gay people.

For example, look at me…I always was an enclosed afroamerican gay because In my community the people discriminate a lot against the gay men, specially against us the afroamericans gay.

  • JOEL

We need to work specially on the African American community with the gay movement to give special rights to gay men from that racial group, because on the african american community the afromerican gay people suffer even more at the hands of their own people.

We need to enforce laws specially on that group because the afroamerican community have the worst record of all in discrimination against the gay people from their own ethnic group.

We need to work even more educating the children from the afroamerican community, so that they will accept the afroamerican gay people as their equal in their community, so that they even can adopt children too.

  • funinsnow

Sam Molloy, my posts are serious and what I think about sex. I have said that many times here. Reynardine, I will write ugly truths about dead gays such as Harvey B. Milk, Metthew Wayne Shepard whether it’s here or other websites though it offends you. You call me corpse defiler, corpse molester among other things because you have no rebuttal. My posts as known by some here on SPLC has appeared on many websites.

  • Aron

Barbarotico, the least you could do is SPELL Rey’s name correctly when you steal her name to spread your lies.

  • Reynardine

Shea: Erika is, in fact, a lawyer. I ‘ d tell you to enjoy that crow sandwich, but as someone who has had pet crows, I reckon you won’t get much.

  • Reynardine

“Reinardine”, indeed! See here, you impersonating XCIX, if you are going to pretend you are me, at least learn to LXIX spell!

  • Erika

oh goody, another appearance by the fake me. i especially like how braticaco tries to claim that he is making so much sense along with some gibberish regarding the illuminati. still it makes more sense than brock henderson.

    what fun.

  • Erika

Shea, you sound suspiciously like a 1L who thinks that because they can cite a case they know what the law is without having sufficient knowledge to be able to place an isolated case within context of the real world. And calling you an ignorant 1L might be giving you too much credit because i’m pretty sure that a 1L would know the difference between commentary and legal advice. In short, you pretty much got everything wrong and people will be dumber for having read your comment.

  • Reinardine

Is truth that LGTV are NATZIS…

And Is truth that Southern Poverty Law Center is a NATZI organization, a HATE GROUP that belong to the hate industry…The industry that make money in base to the hate.

  • Shea

Erica – If you are not a lawyer please discontinue your comments about “private” companies. Facebook is NOT a private company, it is a quasi-private company, like a grocery store of mall. A private company that invites the public in ( like facebook ) on a defacto basis does not enjoy the rights of privacy to conduct themselves as if they were. Under these conditions, a quasi-private company may not discriminate and must apply its TOS equally across the board – meaning if they allow homosexuals to have their page where homos can goto express their beliefs, then the must allow anyone to do so, regardless of what you, or anyone, thinks about it.

This was originally codifed in MARSH vs. ALABAMA

Here, the Court reasoned, “the more an owner, for his advantage, opens up his property for use by the public in general, the more do his rights become circumscribed by the statutory and constitutional rights of those who use it…”

Please have a lawyer explain this to you.

Facebook is NOT a private company anymore than a mall is. Your knowledge of the law is insufficient for you to be commenting on this subject. You might also reflect that it is a felony in all 50 states for anyone other than a lawyer to give legal advice. Please restrict your commentary to subjects directly within your field of expertise.

This is great you guys are seeing this, please see their new page, they are back to their old trick the forth time round (The Daily HAM) why is this page still aloud ? its so wrong, is there nothing you can do to have it removed ?

  • Erika

Has anyone been following the Supreme Court case over gay marriage – because some of the briefs are pretty entertaining including an amicus brief by the Westboro Baptist Church that recognizing gay marriage will cause another great flood or women to be turned into pillars of salt or something.

But more to the point of these “heterosexual pride” people comes this parade of butthurt antedotes from a group who seems to be of a tea (party) of these heteorsexual rights fools:

Seriously, these guys are almost as bad at feeling victimized as the men’s rights activists. Pretty much the definition of “just pound the table” when you are filing briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court to “support” your side from some group you just made up which is in its entrety a claim that if the Supreme Court does not continue to enshrine their bigoted view of Christianity as the law of the land that someone might be mean to them.

Oh and the Westboro Baptist Chruch brief is just as crazy as you’d expect – seriously, this has to be one of the craziest briefs ever filed before the U.S. Supreme Corut –

(and overall looking at the briefs makes it clear that there are a whole lot of crazy religious right groups out there – seriously, who needs a separate heterosexual pride group? Methinks that most of these heterosexual pride guys simply have turned to this because none of the fratnerities on campus would let them in – and i’m guessing that there are very few women involved in this group)

  • Tobias A. Weissman

This is too stupid to deserve a comment. Imagine Ellen Degenerous being a dangerous Nazi preaching “DEATH TO THE JEWS?” What is happening to the human race with ideas such as this.

  • Rocchi Volpe

Hello Dreamers. I’m sure you have all heard of the page heterosexual awareness month aka HAM by now. To make it short they are a hate group spreading lies and false facts about the LGBT community. Several attempts to have them removed have failed but we want to try one more thing. On Feb 28th 2013 we want to ask you and all other pages to report the page as many times as you can. If we can get enough people to do this, and enough pages to join this could result in millions of people reporting them on one day. That would be something Facebook can’t ignore. We want the page gone because of their false facts and lies. Why? Because people may believe them. One person is smart. A group of people are stupid. Who’s to say a few of them don’t gather together and cause harm to an LGBT person or worse? They have to be stopped. Please join us on 2/28/13 and report them as many times as you can. And please share this pic and status. The more people we can get the better. Thank you ~Dream of Equality.

Dream Of Equality took there page down and they have since tried 5 times to get back on.. we are keeping an eye on them..

  • Krissy

Very brainwashy. The more people spread this around, the less people actually learn about the holocaust and the ideologies that created mass murder in the heart of “civilized” 20th century Europe.

  • Scott

Thank you SPLC for exposing this hate group. :)

  • supersonic250

Funinsnow: You have failed every argument forever with that post. Thank you, goodbye. I second Reynardine’s call for a permanent ban for this putz, please.

I’d also like to call for a second and/or renewed ban for Eugene… if he hasn’t been banned already or is evading said ban somehow.

I’m all for spirited (and sometimes stupid) debates, but these two aren’t part of that.

  • Aron

Also be careful about outlawing hate speech. Freedom of expression is among the five most important rights we have.

  • Aron

That is exactly what happened. Compare the posts written under my and Erika’s names with the previous poster ‘yoyo.’ Then examine the page where ‘barbarotico’ posted.

I believe you will find some shocking similarities.

And I had thought that the Odious One had finally been banned once and for all. I guess I was wrong.

Aron I’m starting to comprehend that barbarotico have the truth about the serious social situation of USA created by the iluminati jewish and the stateless political elite.

I think that you (Aron) are an ignorant scum, and your “statements” have not solid fundaments against the omnipotent truth exposed by the prophet barbarotico.

  • concernedcitizen

Reynardine: Am I to understand that there’s a troll here using Erika’s and Aron’s name?

The people that I’ve come across that hate try to include those that fight for civil rights in their “that’s a hatemonger” routine. It’s interesting and beyond me how people can come up with these conclusions completely minus of any intellectual thought or analysis.

It appears that they become so amused with their own images in their handheld mirrors that they further believe the world looks just like them. Everyone must think just like them, feel just like them and believe just like them. And if others don’t agree then they are “hating on them”.

However as I peruse the daily papers I have yet to find a group of gays or lesbians burning down churches, running minorities over with trucks, sending in shooters in houses of worship and killing the innocent. No there has been no mention of rainbows being painted on the victims properties bearing any insignia’s placed by peace loving individuals who simply want their civil rights honored: no it’s usually a swastika or the KKK or some other kook hate group.

What a wonderful world this would be if we could completely outlaw hatemongers.

  • Reynardine

Also, Concerned: you have as yet to experience the sewage in which that other individual wallows, but, though the rabid mouths who intrude here routinely accuse me of being a hater just for describing them, *that* one is the only one to whom I would enjoy delivering the old time Chicago third degree.

  • Reynardine

Concerned: That is not the real Erika, as I guess you now know.

  • concernedcitizen

@Erika: I can’t speak for anyone else but I don’t care what you think. SPLC does great work and intellectual people understand the difference between hate groups and those that stand up for the rights of the oppressed.

@funinsnow: that is just way too much personal information about your sexual preferences. I need to shower now after reading your post I don’t know if I will ever feel clean again!

When there are two consenting adults the rest should be left private between the two of them. And who they choose to love is a matter of civil liberties. Remember this is a free country.

  • Sam Molloy

Funinsnow, I sense sarcasm but I would be dismayed if you were serious. Let me explain the rules for sex between consenting adults:

  • Erika

Oh lookie here, it looks like (Aron and) i have received the greatest compliment that someone can receive on the internet – a troll trying to take our name. i must have really touched a nerve to have such an unoriginal and trite tribute.

And Mr. Troll, for capitalizing your i’s and failing to include any humor or anything about Jack T. Chick religious tracts, the Supreme Court, Eugene V. Debs, Looney Tunes cartoons, Hurricane Erika, Find Radiant Joy in Peach Bottom bikinis, dogs eating people, egregious mispellings or typos, Onancock, emoticons, Tim Tebow, Cobb County, Georgia, laws, or random historical tidbits most likely about the Gilded Age you get zero points at intimidation, oopsie i meant imitation (guess i should add using the wrong word and saying the wrong thing on my list) :P

    Better luck next time :)

    Princess Erika the Great :)

  • Reynardine

Yoyo, few are as well-named as you.

  • Reynardine

The corpse–molester is back. I am going to ask that this vicious little necrosadist be banned.

  • Erika

Dan, its not censorship – Facebook is a private company which is under no obligation to publish anyone’s thoughts. Facebook has community standards and terms and conditions which people who use their for profit private entity service must agree to abide by. Reporting a potential terms of service violation to a private company is not censorship – asking a private company to explain their terms and conditions and policy relating to speech hostile to a group is not censorship. Its not censorship to ask Facebook to explain their terms and conditions and their community standards.

Heck, it really isn’t even censorship for Facebook to remove their postings or group. They would still be free to set up their own website through an internet provider on their own without using Facebook’s private system. Its not censorship for me to say you can’t put a sign on my property – you would still be perfectly free to put your sign on your own property. Its me exercising control over my property and because it is my private property i am under no obligation to post your point of view.

Censorship would be saying that these guys should not be able to post their thoughts anywhere. Censorship would be tossing them in jail for their ideas. A private entity is under no obligation to post anybody’s thoughts or ideas. What happened to Eugene V. Debs and many others (being thrown in prison for criticizing World War I) was censorship. If the government operated Facebook refusing to let these guys post their ideas would be censorship. These guys having to set up their own website rather than using Facebook’s to post their thoughts is simply business, not censorship.

@ Mods, “Erika’s” post is obviously a sockpuppet. If you are going to permit this practice, then at least force them to use unique monikers, rather than hiding behind the name of the SPLC’s best commenter.

The heterosexuals have rights to have a month dedicate to heterosexual pride.

southern poverty law center, is part of the hate industry.

  • Dan Zabetakis

“Dan, criticizing someone and calling their opinions silly is not censoring someone.”

If the Facebook group were banned then that would be censorship. That’s what the last paragraph is calling for.

Facebook has so far decided that the group is acting within their terms of service, and from what I can see here and in the DailyKos article I think Facebook are largely right.

Obviously I don’t support the homophobes at all. But we give them ammunition if we try to censor them without serious justification. In any case, the Gay-Nazi concept is so patently ludicrous it actually helps the progressive cause.

  • Yoyo

    Southern Poverty Law Center.

The mentioned groups are part of the HATE INDUSTRY.

These groups belong to the zionist iluminati.

These hate groups create hate between the gentile people. Their function is to spread the hate and live from it.

The owners and presidents of all those groups are jewish.

The owner of Southern Poverty Law Center is a Cohen…A jewish from the sacerdotal branch. Levi and Cohen are last names from the sacerdotal family branch.

With these hate groups they are carrying out what they wrote on the protocols of zion: “we will continue to inflame the minorities over the majority on gentile nations”

The funny thing is that the Nazis became ferociously anti-gay only after they seized power. Initially, Hitler had no trouble with gays in his party, thinking they would make good soldiers, because they wouldn’t be distracted by raping women. The head of his Brownshirts, Ernst Rohm, liked little boys.

Then Hitler purged off his SA men, believing the SA were plotting to overthrow him (Rohm was demanding more power, but hardly a coup) and personally arrested Rohm, finding the SA Stabschef in bed with a boyfriend. After that, Hitler saw homosexuality as a menace, and went on an incredibly vicious and appalling anti-gay campaign, packing them off to extermination camps, wearing the pink triangle. More ghastly hypocrisy from Adolf, the master of the “Grossenluge.”

Incidentally, his chief financier, Walther Funk, was also gay, and he held his position and survived the war, turning gold teeth from concentration camp victims into gold bars to finance the war effort, stealing gold from occupied nations, and squiring little boys. He drew a life term at Nuremberg, and was released shortly before his death, suffering from heart and urinary trouble.

  • funinsnow

people such as Dr. Paul Drummond Cameron share my view that sex must be limited to penis/vaginal sex between man & woman. Most straights don’t take part in sodomy or anal, even if gay/lesbian groups say otherwise. Sex is mainly supposed to be about the woman pleasuring the man with viceversa minor. Hopefully this language is allowed for this post but I’m also not a believer in oral sex, but that if it happens, it’s only supposed to be a woman giving a man oral but not viceversa-man’s mouth is not meant to do oral. Also I agree with what Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi did when he paid young women for sex because after a woman hits menopause, it’s best not to do her anymore. There you have my views on sex-limit it to penis vaginal sex between a man & woman, that sex is mainly supposed to be about the woman pleasuring the man & that once a woman hits menopause, it’s best to not have sex with her.

  • adamhill

Facebook is a private corporation and is not obligated to support all user content, so the word “censorship” doesn’t really apply here. The heart of the matter is that Facebook appears to be violating its own standards.

Whether a hetereosexual pride group is “formally” acceptable is open to debate, but that’s not what this group is. Among “pride” groups, “pride” usually signals identification with an oppressed group of people by which, through shared history, practices, culture, etc., group solidarity is fortified, and individual members feel less threatened and more supported. This group’s claim of promoting “pride” for heterosexuals is just a front for promoting hatred of homosexuals.

That incorrectly equating people or groups to Nazis has become ridiculous enough to become a humorous Internet meme doesn’t diminish, in this particular example, the capacity of such an equation to incite hatred, because the sympathetic audience–pissed off heterosexual bigots whose members are more likely to be bedfellows of Nazis that any gay people are–probably wouldn’t get the joke.

  • Reynardine

Aron, you will have to learn tolerance for these smallest and roundest of brassicas.

  • Sam Molloy

Methinks they dost protest too much.

  • Erika

Dan, criticizing someone and calling their opinions silly is not censoring someone. The First Amendment allows one to speak – it doesn’t allow one to speak with their opposition silenced.

And the fact that these idiots lack the courage to give their names in standing up for “heterosexual pride” makes it appear mighty suspicious that their primary goal is to insult homosexuals. There is no social consequence to being an open heterosexual – many open heterosexuals occupy prominent positions in government, business, entertainment, and industry. There is potential social consequence for being an open bigot. If all they called for was pride in being openly hetereosexual they would have no problem giving their real names – this is simply a way to bash homosexuals.

They have the right to do that – even anonymously. They have the right to be silly and juvenile. they have the right to be stupid, hostile, trite, whatever they want to be. They don’t have a right to avoid criticism for their silly, juvenile, stupid, hostile, trite, whatever description you want to choose postions.

It is my solemn cause to rid the world of the evil that is the Brussels sprout, and send any of its supporters to my ‘Aron’s Friendly Re-education and Labor Camps’ where they will be force-fed cookies (Brussels sprouts are the anti-cookie) until they renounce their love of that vile seed pod.

Dr. Charles Socarides, a former president of the NARTH group that claims that homosexuality can be “cured,” and his infamous quote: “Homosexuality is a psychiatric disorder, there is no question about it. It is a purple menace that is threatening the proper design of gender distinctions in society.”

    REPLY to Dr. Charles Socarides:

That’s interesting because that’s my definition of Freudian Frauds running a loose in America with licenses to ill define, misdiagnose and over medicate innocent citizens.

Dr. Charles Socarides; what of the psychiatric disorder that spreads in white supremacist that believe that they have a claim to all white people and their possessions? That they have a right to infringe on interracial marriages to push unmarried single white women with children and their burdens on unsuspecting white males who do not prescribe to hate and have brides of different nationalities? And no doubt they try and do the same to women in mixed marriages as well. How do we define these abominations of our current society that run loose and under the radar of many federal and state law enforcement authorities?

What of those psychiatric disorders? Because as of late the hate crimes that we have witnessed and been victimized by have nothing to do with the gay community.
And if you read real life case files you will find that pedophilia is not NOT a disorder based on being gay or lesbian! The cases I’ve read have all been heterosexual men, like that of the coach at Penn State that Freeh and the FBI helped to bring to justice. And of course we get heterosexual women who engage in such purversity as well.

Stop blaming the gay and lesbians for a hate agenda that is being pushed by hateful, illiterate heterosexuals who often lie and hide behind the label of “Christianity” which has nothing to do nor does it resemble any Christianity that I know of; it’s a way of trying to use God for a cover to commit more crimes against their fellow men and women.

Until this is no longer a free country these men and women have a right to choose who they love just as we all have a right to choose our partners and some of us choose regardless of color or religious background. We just simply choose because we are in love.

And people who enjoy their freedom long for a world free of idiots like you who keep trying to push their narrow minded agendas of hate on them.

Take your psychiatric license and go practice your witch doctoring in some remote forest where one day a nice bear will turn you into something useful, his lunch!

  • Dan Zabetakis

I don’t think there is a lot to complain about here. The pictures in the DailyKos article you linked to are not particularly offensive and I am not surprised that Facebook didn’t ban them. And, formally, a heterosexual pride organization is perfectly acceptable.

Also, comparing things to Nazi Germany is so common of the interwebs that it has it’s own meme.

Never let it be said that we, the forces of progress and advancement, ever tried to censor someone for expressing an opinion that we disagree about.

i suspect that the one who shall not be named is a member of this movement.

seriously, we’ve already seen the rediculous men’s rights movement, and white rights- and now a heterosexual pride movement. Life is getting strange.

No doubt there is quite a bit of overlap between the men’s rights morons and the heteorsexual rights morons – and most of them probably watch “lesbian porn” every night. Unless they are like the one who shall not be named who finds two women being together gross apparently because there is no penis involved.

One suspects that there if there really were “straight pride” rallies there will be a shockingly large amount of gay sex going on afterwords – anyone who has to announce to the world being proud to be heterosexual and join a “straight pride” group is likely a major closet case.
