Three Mennonite sisters, ranging in age from 84 to 90, remained hospitalized in Lancaster County, Penn., after being assaulted in their home in what authorities describe as a “heinous” and “unfathomable” hate crime.

The alleged perpetrator, 22-year-old Dereck Taylor Holt, was arrested Saturday, one day after a man posing as an insurance salesman forced his way into the women’s home. Over a two-hour period, the assailant used a stun gun on the women and punched, slapped and kicked them. They were left bound for about four hours after the assailant ransacked the house and fled, the Lancaster Intelligence Journal reported in today’s editions. ( continue to full post… )

In one of the largest racketeering cases brought this year, the U.S. Department of Justice has just unsealed a 43-page indictment of 34 members of a “violent, whites-only prison-based gang with thousands of members operating” in and out of prisons throughout Texas and elsewhere.

The Aryan Brotherhood of Texas (ABT) is accused of carrying out murders, attempted murders, conspiracies, arsons, assaults, robberies and drug trafficking as part of an enterprise that goes back to at least 1993. Among those charged in the indictment are four senior leaders or “generals” — Terry Ross “Big Terry” Blake, 55; Larry Max “Slick” Bryan, 51; William David “Baby Huey” Maynard, 42, and Charles Lee “Jive” Roberts, 68. On the eve of a Nullification Now! conference in Jacksonville, Fla., last week, the Tenth Amendment Center issued a warning: The Southern Poverty Law Center was sending someone to report that “those of us who want political decentralization as the Constitution requires [are] ‘dangerous.’” Then, when the conference began, every speaker repeated the warning. Someone from the SPLC was there, they said.

Billy Roper, one of the country’s leading professional racists, says he’s closing the doors of his 9-year-old White Revolution organization, which he concedes has been a failure, and will join forces with long time Klan leader Thom Robb.

“As the leader of the organization, I am solely responsible and accept full responsibility for White Revolution’s lack of success as a membership organization,” Roper writes in “an open letter to the white nationalist movement.”

Effective immediately, Roper says, “White Revolution will cease to accept new membership applications and will suspend all recruitment activities as a membership organization while we undergo a period of reorganization and dismantlement …”

His organization may be disbanding, but he’s still a racist, Roper says. “This is not really an occasion for sadness, because I am not retiring from the movement. I am just putting aside my pride and my ego and doing what is best for my family, my race and our cause.” ( continue to full post… )

A federal judge this morning sentenced Ronald Wayne Edwards (seen at right during a deposition in 2007), former imperial wizard of the Kentucky-based Imperial Klans of America (IKA), to 48 months in prison, The Associated Press reported.

Edwards, who was charged with federal gun and drug violations, pleaded guilty in March. Along with his longtime girlfriend, Christina Gillette, who pleaded guilty on drug charges, he was accused trafficking methamphetamines and painkillers. Gillette will serve 12 months and one day in prison, the AP said. ( continue to full post… )

The trial of Bruce and Joshua Turnidge begins its sixth day of testimony in a Salem, Ore., courtroom today, where the father and son face nearly 20 counts ranging from aggravated murder to assault stemming from a December 2008 bank bombing that killed two police officers and seriously injured two others.

According to prosecutors, at least one of the two men – who have turned on each other as the trial has unfolded – began planning the bombing shortly after the election of Barack Obama, fearing the new president would restrict their gun rights upon taking office.

On the opening day of the trial last week, Marion County deputy district attorney Katie Suver told the jury that the election served as a “catalyst” for the bombing. She stated further that the father, Bruce, 59, attempted to start his own militia following the election of Bill Clinton in 1992, fearing a similar crackdown on guns.

Although it’s a small town of about 7,800, Pulaski, Tenn. may well be the white supremacist epicenter of the nation — at least if the number of rallies held there by bigoted groups is any indication.

The mayor and other residents aren’t pleased. “There’s never been a local person involved in these marches or rallies,” Mayor Daniel Speer told Hatewatch this week. But they’re resigned to being a favorite locale for the haters on the American radical right. Speer’s town is more than one-quarter black, but it has for decades been a favorite place for white supremacist groups to rally because of one unfortunate historical fact: This was where the Ku Klux Klan was born.

The next such event on tap in Pulaski: the annual European Heritage Festival, scheduled for Oct. 23. The event, despite its name, has the heavy footprint of the Klan all over it. Sponsors include the Christian Revival Center led by long-time Arkansas Klan leader Thom Robb; the Knights Party USA (better known by its original name of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan), which is Robb’s “political” organization; Voice of Reason radio, which features interviews with white nationalist luminaries such as Jamie Kelso and Tomislav Sunic; and Abundant Life Fellowship of Morgantown, Ind. A popular speaker at gatherings of white supremacists and anti-Semites has joined the board of directors of the nascent white nationalist political party, American Third Position (A3P).

Tomislav Sunic, who describes himself as a former professor, Croatian diplomat and author, has spoken on multiple occasions to the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC) and the Institute for Historical Review (IHR). The CCC is a racist hate group directly descended from the White Citizens Councils of the 1950s and 1960s that were once famously described by future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall as the “uptown Klan.” The IHR is a Holocaust-denying organization and publisher. He has also spoken at events organized by the neo-Nazi National Alliance, including a February 2003 “Euro-Fest” in Sacramento, Calif., where his central theme was that Europe has been repeatedly invaded by “alien” peoples and that whites have become a minority in Western Europe. He railed on about non-white immigrants, ending with the Turkish workers who have moved to Germany. “The Turks,” he said, “are enslaving white people in Germany.”

Sunic spoke this March 6 at an IHR gathering in California that was attended by William Daniel Johnson and Kevin MacDonald, the chairman and director, respectively, of the A3P. In that appearance, Sunic lamented what he characterized as vindictive treatment of Germans in the aftermath of World War II.

Johnson, a lawyer who has been a white supremacist activist for nearly three decades, has run for offices in three states, losing badly each time. MacDonald is a psychology professor at California State University, Long Beach, who is best known for his anti-Semitic writings. Johnson and MacDonald formed the A3P last October and hope to eventually run candidates for political offices across the United States. Do you miss Prussian Blue, the pop-singing twin sisters who entertained neo-Nazi crowds with their off-key odes to white power a few years back? Then you might want to check out another sister act: Eighteen-year-old Charity and 16-year-old Shelby Pendergraft, who form a group called Heritage Connection.

Prussian Blue, you may recall, consisted of Lynx and Lamb Gaede, who (with a little help from stage mom April Gaede) sieg-heiled their way to international stardom in white power circles. They haven’t been heard from in awhile and have apparently moved on to other things.

The Pendergraft sisters have not yet received the media attention that the Gaede bunch drew in their heyday, but they claim to have performed at white nationalist events nationwide since they started performing as Heritage Connection in 2003. They’ve also released two CDs, “Aryan Awakening” and “Standing Our Ground,” and have shared the stage with a guitar-playing Derek Black, best known for the brouhaha that followed his election to the Palm Beach County Republican Executive Committee.
