Obama-Bashing WorldNetDaily Chief Sues Esquire Over ‘Birther’ Satire

WorldNetDaily (WND) Editor-in-Chief Joseph Farah really wants the world to know he’s serious about President Obama’s birth certificate, even if most of the world seems to have completely lost interest. After exhaustively demanding that the president produce his long-form birth certificate and then claiming that the certificate Obama did release was fake, Farah has sued Esquire magazine for publishing an online article parodying his dog-with-a-bone mission.

A complaint filed in federal court in the District of Columbia this week accuses Esquire, reporter Mark Warren and parent company Hearst Communications Inc. of defaming WND . The Esquire article, which was tagged as “humor,” said that Farah had decided to pulp 200,000 brand-new copies of Jerome Corsi’s Where’s The Birth Certificate? The Case that Barack Obama is not Eligible to be President, published by WND. The book was about to go on sale when Obama released his birth certificate, in effect making Farah, WND, Corsi and the title of Corsi’s book all look ridiculous.

The lawsuit demands almost $300 million. ( continue to full post… )

Nativists Focus Attacks on Religious Denominations

In the wake of two recent religious gatherings, anti-immigrant hard-liners are focusing their fire on two major religious faith groups: the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Southern Baptist Convention.

The duo’s shared offense? In the past week, both have publicly opposed legislation that would require businesses to participate in E-Verify, a federal government tool for verifying people’s immigration status, and have called for compassionate treatment of all immigrants, regardless of legal status.

The John Birch Society (JBS) — a conspiracy-minded, far-right organization that made its name in the 1950s and 1960s by spreading anti-communist propaganda and working against school desegregation and has lately edged back into the mainstream by hooking up with Tea Party groups and Glenn Beck fans — took the lead in attacking the bishops. “American Catholic bishops, equating socialism with true Christian charity, have long been allies of the radical Left in its plans to socialize the American economy,” R. Cort Kirkwood wrote in comments that completely ignored the Catholic Church’s historical enmity toward communism and its staunch pro-Americanism during the Cold War. His article was published in JBS magazine The New American released yesterday. ( continue to full post… )

‘Defending’ the West, One Word At A Time – Geller Joins WorldNetDaily

Pamela Geller, one of the most visible and influential agitators in the anti-Muslim fear-mongering movement, has an even taller soapbox now that the far-right website WorldNetDaily (WND) announced this week that she would produce a weekly column called “Defending the West” – a column dedicated to her belief that Islam is an “extreme ideology” populated by “savages” and hell-bent on destroying Western values.

“Award-winning ‘Blogress Diva’ to write ‘Defending the West’ column,” the announcement reads. Her debut article, published Tuesday, is titled “Facebook fascists shut down dissenters.” Geller accuses social media giant Facebook of targeting “conservative groups for elimination.”

In reality, Facebook is asking all online groups to move their information to a newer format. But Geller sees something more sinister at play. “Clearly this is a politically motivated move, as we move into the presidential election year, to dismantle the apparatus of groups that rely on grass-roots efforts to combat the massive left-wing machinery Barack Obama and Co. used so effectively in 2008,” Geller wrote. “And yet it hasn’t so much as raised an eyebrow in big-media circles. The left-wing media won’t care about the death of free speech in the United States until the crocodile they’re feeding turns around and eats them.” ( continue to full post… )

The Day After: ‘Birthers’ Regroup With Crazed Claims of Fraud

The foaming-at-the-mouth “birthers” are hardly the type to lay down their rhetorical arms and admit defeat even when forced to see the very document they’ve been demanding from President Obama.

The clamor surrounding Obama’s citizenship status has only intensified in the aftermath of the White House releasing, for the second time, documented proof he was born in Hawaii. For the most part, birthers refused to accept Obama’s “long-form” birth certificate at face value. Some even insisted the document they had sought for years — and claimed didn’t exist — offered more proof that Obama is not constitutionally eligible to be president.

Within hours of the White House releasing the document Wednesday — a political token Obama hoped would curtain the “sideshows” and muzzle the “carnival barkers” — lead barker Donald Trump held a news conference to offer self-congratulations for helping the country move past the issue. (Of course, for more than a month Trump has led the charge to delegitimize the president — and energize a possible campaign of his own.) Trump then moved on to question Obama’s intelligence, wondering how this “terrible student” got into Harvard and Columbia.

Not everyone would be as … ahem … gracious as The Donald. ( continue to full post… )

‘Where’s the Birth Certificate?’ The Lunatic Right Gets an Answer

Over the past month, New York City real estate mogul and TV reality show host Donald Trump has turned himself into the nation’s biggest promoter of the alleged “controversy” over President Obama’s nationality. He claims to have ordered investigators to scour the globe in search of records of the president’s birth and, for good measure, now even questions how Obama, who he called “a terrible student,” got into Harvard or if he ever attended.

Just this Monday, Trump appeared on CNN, the latest in a series of self-promoting public appearances, to insist that the president’s birth certificate does not exist. He said to host Anderson Cooper: “I’ve been told very recently, Anderson, that the birth certificate is missing. I’ve been told that it’s not there, and it doesn’t exist.” Pressed by Cooper to identify his sources — or even some of the officials his investigators have supposedly talked to — Trump refused to provide a single name.

But Trump’s little game may have been checkmated today.

This morning, the Obama Administration released what has long been described as the missing puzzle piece by the so-called “birther” movement – his “long-form” birth certificate. The certificate notes that Barack Hussein Obama was born on Aug. 4, 1961, at Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu on Aug. 4, 1961. His parents are identified on the certificate as Stanley Ann Dunham, born in Wichita, Kan., and Barack Hussein Obama, born in Kenya — precisely what the president has said clearly for his entire life. During his news conference, Obama referred to Trump, although not by name, as a “carnival barker.” ( continue to full post… )

GOP, Caving in to Anti-Gay Groups, Tells GOProud to Go Home

It’s official: The “big tent” of conservatism is big enough to include gay men and lesbians – just as long as they don’t support same-sex marriage, gays in the military or other gay rights.

“It’s got nothing to do with the orientation, it’s got to do with the principles that you advocate,” American Conservative Union (ACU) Chairman Al Cardenas said Wednesday, spinning madly on C-SPAN’s American Journal. “There are a number of gays in America who don’t advocate the gays in the military issue or gay marriage, and so they’ll fit within the tent of what we stand for.”

That pretty much assures the gay conservative group GOProud, which supports letting gays serve openly in the military, will no longer be welcome at the ACU’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Right Wingers Take on ‘Liar in Chief’

MIAMI, Fla. — To many of the far-right speakers and people attending the three-day “Taking America Back” conference here, President Obama doesn’t just espouse policies and ideology they loathe. They’re convinced he’s a Muslim, a communist or both.

Not only is Obama a communist, but the Democratic Party is “indistinguishable from socialists or communists in the way they think,” Jerome Corsi told a receptive and enthusiastic audience today, the conference’s second day. Corsi is a frequent contributor to the right-wing World Net Daily (WND) that organized the confab at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, and has written books savaging Obama and Sen. John Kerry, when Kerry was the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004. ( continue to full post… )

Political Mudslingers Populate Far-Right Miami Conference

MIAMI, Fla. — Self-described “birther king” and World Net Daily (WND) founder Joseph Farah said today that he thinks one or two states will pass legislation in the next year requiring presidential candidates to provide irrefutable proof that they are U.S. citizens in order to have their names placed on those states’ ballots. If that happens, Farah predicted, Obama won’t seek reelection in 2012. That’s because there is something “hideously embarrassing” in Obama’s background.

Farah’s soothsaying came during a question-and-answer session during the first day of a three-day conference he put together in Miami called “Taking America Back 2010” (the day after the conference ends, Farah and other far-right stalwarts will be hosting a similar event, this one on board a Caribbean cruise). A prayer that kicked off the conference today thanked God for Farah’s right-wing, conspiracy-minded WND. Later, one of the speakers thanked God for Farah. Farah, however, was far less interested in thanks than in the kind of political mudslinging for which he and several other conference attendees are well known. ( continue to full post… )

Conservatives’ Friendly Gestures Toward Gays Infuriate Far Right

Conservative columnist and author Ann Coulter’s decision to be the featured speaker next month at a “Homocon” gathering of homosexual conservatives has gotten her axed as a keynote speaker at a meeting of prominent far-right personalities. Joseph Farah’s decision to cut Coulter from his Taking America Back National Conference in Miami next month is only the latest pushback by some on the far right who are incensed and worried by recent gains made by the gay rights movement.

Angels and Demons – Catholics in Conspiracy with Obama?

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Whether it’s suggesting President Obama is a secret Muslim from Kenya or a dictator eager to pull the plug on grandma, it seems there’s no conspiracy theory too outrageous for the antigovernment “Patriot” movement.

That is, until Cliff Kincaid apparently crossed the line today.

Kincaid, who has built a reputation within the movement with conspiracy-mongering columns savaging liberals, gave a speech at a conference where he described Marxist and other radical-left elements within the Catholic Church that are apparently working to push forward a sinister Obama agenda.

Kincaid was careful to say he was not bashing the entire church, noting he was speaking as a Catholic. That caveat, however, was apparently not enough for his colleague and fellow speaker at the conference, Jerome Corsi.

Corsi, another big name in the Patriot movement, said he used Kincaid’s research in his book “The Obama Nation.” Nevertheless, Corsi had strong words for Kincaid when it was his turn to speak at the Jericho March & Conference, a gathering that mixed the religious right with some Patriot movement speakers. “I am a Catholic. I take exception with much of what he said,” Corsi said.

He stopped short of accusing Kincaid of bashing the church in the speech, which touched on Marxism in the church, the so-called “New World Order” and, apparently, Obama’s role in it. But Corsi certainly wasn’t pleased by what he heard. “It is unfair to represent the Catholic Church as communist. It is not,” Corsi said. “And Cliff, I take exception.”

As editor of Accuracy in Media’s “AIM Report” and founder and president of America’s Survival, Kincaid’s sights have been set on liberals and global institutions. But he has lately focused on elements within the Catholic Church. America’s Survival, which bills itself as a United Nations watchdog, has published reports about Marxism infiltrating the church, the Vatican’s “Quest for a World Political Authority” and yet another report looking at the Vatican’s role in the New World Order.

For Kincaid, it’s about accurately describing the progressive movement.

“The real danger in this movement is that it is not secular,” he said. “It is religiously based.”

The two men spoke at the Jericho March Conference, which brought about 75 to 100 attendees to an event whose stated goal includes “merging prayer and patriotism.” Insight USA, an organization headed by Christian activist Faye Hardin, hosted the event.

The attendees, who appeared to be mostly 55 or older and predominantly white and female, could pick up copies of the U.S. Constitution and religious paraphernalia at various tables. Free publications from Accuracy in Media and America’s Survival were also available.

But a copy of a report from America’s Survival about the Vatican’s role in the New World Order – including some 300 footnotes – could only be yours for $10.
