Internship
The New Orleans office of the Southern Poverty Law Center offers summer internships to exceptional second-year law students who possess strong academic backgrounds, excellent research and writing skills, and a commitment to public interest law. Our goal is to stem the flow of the School-to-Prison Pipeline by using federal special education law to get supports and services for children with emotional and behavioral disabilities. Our strategies include litigation, training, and public policy advocacy. For more information, visit our website.
The interns assist the Center's attorneys and other staff with legal and public policy research, writing, field/facility investigations, discovery, and case preparation.
Interns receive $700.00 per week. Start dates are somewhat flexible, but interns are expected to begin sometime in early June 2010. A minimum commitment of ten weeks is desirable.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, transcript, a writing sample (no longer than 15 pages), and the names and phone numbers of two references by October 31, 2009, to lea.stevenson@splcenter.org.
The project expects to select interns by mid-November 2009.
Due to the high volume of applications received, we are unable to respond to inquiries by telephone.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from minorities, women, and people with disabilities.
