Working at the Center
The Center offers its employees the opportunity to do work that really makes a difference in people's lives.
(Valerie Downes)

Applying to the Center
The Southern Poverty Law Center desires diverse, experienced candidates with the character, capabilities, and commitment for our challenging mission. Applicants are encouraged to apply for positions that fit their needs and abilities.

Positions include full-time and part-time employment, legal internships, and two-year fellowships. The Center does not offer a formal internship program for college undergraduates.

Most positions accept resumes only by e-mail, regular mail, or fax. (No phone calls, please.) However, some require resumes be sent via regular mail and that applicants provide a portfolio or work samples. At an applicant's request, portfolio or work samples may be returned.

After an initial review by our Human Resources department, resumes and materials are forwarded to the appropriate departmental supervisor to be further reviewed before preliminary interviews are scheduled.

Upon an initial interview, qualified applicants complete an employment application form. The process proceeds, as necessary, with a series of selection tests, employment interviews, and reference and background checks before a job offer is made.

Diversity Statement
Diversity transcends race and gender, affirmative action, and Equal Employment Opportunity programs. It means respecting and valuing differences, such as those arising from age, disability, gender, language, ethnicity, culture, race, marital status, and socio-economic status, as well as respecting each individual's right to their religious faith, political beliefs, and sexual orientation.

Center chief trial counsel Morris Dees sets the tone for an informal office atmosphere.

We believe all employees have something important to contribute. Respecting individual differences is an integral part of our culture, and we endeavor to make our differences work for us to achieve the Center's mission.

The Human Resources department works to achieve unity and satisfaction among all employees at the Center. We welcome new employees to a workplace committed to a common mission and dedicated to an atmosphere of respect and camaraderie.

Benefits
The Center has a generous benefits package for qualifying positions.
