'Disposable People'

50th and C
At this bleak corner, transgendered teens Stephanie Thomas and Ukea Davis (inset) were shot execution style in August 2002. Both were pumped full of bullets — at least 10 apiece.

Though their deaths were first met by the sadness of the entire D.C. community — Mayor Anthony Williams spoke at an emotional vigil for them, D.C. congressional delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton pushed for investigation as a hate crime, their joint funeral was packed — the murders are still unsolved and not classified as a hate crime.
