Cases that involve important legal or civil rights questions, and are within the Southern Poverty Law Center's Legal Agenda, may receive legal assistance. Such assistance is offered to individuals, not attorneys. To learn more and submit an online request, please see the Individual Legal Assistance page.
The SPLC legal department does not address:
- Criminal cases or wrongful convictions
- Family law
- Commercial or consumer litigation
- Land disputes
- Individual claims for damages
SPLC legal staff cannot respond to questions about cases not selected to receive assistance. If your case is not within the SPLC's requirements, these organizations may be better equipped to assist you:
American Civil Liberties Union
Centurian Ministries
Equal Justice Works
Findlaw.com
Findlegalhelp.org
The Innocence Project
LawHelp.org
Lawyers Committee for Human Rights
Mexican American Legal Defense Fund
NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund
