Senior Advocate, Mississippi Initiatives
Jed Oppenheim assists in organizing campaigns that address harsh discipline practices pushing children out of Mississippi’s public schools. His work also includes campaigns that address unconstitutional conditions in the state’s juvenile detention facilities. As an advocate, he works with students and parents throughout Mississippi to address their concerns and needs. Before joining the SPLC, he worked in various organizing capacities assisting human and civil rights campaigns in the United States, South Africa and Indonesia. He is a graduate of the University of California Santa Cruz and studied abroad at the University of Natal, Durban in South Africa. He received his master’s degree from Columbia University in International Education Development.
