Arun Kandel joins the Southern Poverty Law Center after serving as the Chief Information Security Officer and Chief Technology Officer at Bright from Start, Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (GA DECAL). Arun received his Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science with a minor in math from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio. He holds numerous certifications, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Agile Service Manager, SAFe Agilist, ITIL foundation, and various others. Arun has over 18-years of experience and possesses a deep understanding of all elements of an IT organization, the people, process, and technology. He has extensive knowledge of offensive and defensive cybersecurity, IT operations, data centers, IT process automation, and operational improvements in a variety of industries. Arun recently played a crucial role in modernizing GA DECAL IT infrastructure, applications, and created a cybersecurity program from the ground up. Before joining GA DECAL, Arun worked for McKesson, a Fortune 6 company, where he held the title of Director & Solution Architect. At McKesson Arun managed large enterprise initiatives while architecting harmonization initiatives that identify business capabilities to benefit McKesson technology, providing oversight and support for operational excellence by developing a future vision and a strategic architectural roadmap for various enterprise solutions, and managing large-scale projects. When he is not working, Arun enjoys his time hiking, biking, and spending time with his family. Right now, Arun is working on his Executive MBA from Coles school of Business at Kennesaw State University and is expected to graduate in May 2021.
