These incidents include only a fraction of the approximately 191,000 reported and unreported hate crimes that a 2005 government report estimated occur annually.

    Joseph David Burgoyne, 28, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, participating in a criminal street gang, threatening or intimidation and disorderly conduct after he allegedly shouted racial slurs at a man and then attacked him with a bottle. Burgoyne has the slogan “CWB” (Crazy White Boy), a reference to a white supremacist street gang, tattooed on his neck.

    White supremacist David "Joey" Pederson, 34, was sentenced to two life terms in prison for the carjacking murders of an Oregon teenager mistakenly thought to be Jewish and of a black man in northern California. Pederson also was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the deaths of his father and stepmother.
