John de Nugent

De Nugent has run for elected office, and has even vowed to one day become president. While maintaining racist views about numerous racial and ethnic groups, de Nugent is particularly anti-Semitic, believing that the Jews are, along with nefarious space aliens, intent on exterminating the Aryan race.

Background:
John de Nugent was born in 1954 in the city of Providence, R.I. According to the biography he publishes on his website, he is descended from Thomas Angell, a co-founder of the original Rhode Island colony. In response to anti-French sentiment during the second Iraq war, John de Nugent — previously only John Nugent — changed his surname back to the “original Norman-French name of his ancestors.”

De Nugent is the man behind anti-Semitic websites such as LeoFrank.org and MaryPhagan.info. Leo Frank, a Jewish man, was sentenced to death in 1913 for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan in Atlanta. His sentence was later commuted by a Georgia governor who had come to believe that he was probably innocent; however, Frank was kidnapped from jail by a group that called itself the “Knights of Mary Phagan” and lynched. De Nugent’s sites profess to, despite general consensus by historians that Frank was innocent, reveal the “truth” of Frank’s guilt.

In a 2013 interview with white supremacist Tom Metzger on Metzger’s Insurgent Radio Network, de Nugent stated that he was not raised with a pro-white, neo-Nazi ideology. He describes finding a small portrait of Adolf Hitler in his grandmother’s house as a child and being strangely compelled by the image; however, he dates his conversion to extreme white nationalist movements to his time as an undergraduate studying German at Georgetown University. He discovered a passage from Hitler’s Mein Kampf, which spoke to his own frustrations during the 1970s. De Nugent drew parallels between Weimar Germany and 1970s America, citing a Jewish takeover of government and industry (de Nugent believes, for example, that the cabinet of President Jimmy Carter was 70% Jewish) and “degraded” national culture.

De Nugent points to his time at Georgetown as particularly fertile for the growth of his activism, saying it led to his “[s]torm troop demonstration in full uniform, with swastikas, brown shirt, black pants and motor cycle helmet — the uniform of the NSWPP [National Socialist White People’s Party] storm troopers — on the campus of Georgetown in full view of his fellow students and professors in 1979 protesting ‘gay rights’… .” This demonstration brought his politics to the attention of his commanding officers in the Marine Corps (de Nugent had enlisted in 1976). One of those officers, Capt. Harvey Philip Gold, was both Jewish and taught at Georgetown. De Nugent was reassigned and eventually left the military in 1983.

From 1981 to 1984, de Nugent worked in the National Alliance under William L. Pierce. Founded by Pierce in 1974, the Alliance was a neo-Nazi organization that grew out of the National Youth Alliance, itself an offshoot of both the American Nazi Party and the NSWPP.  Pierce is infamous for authoring The Turner Diaries (published in 1978), a race-war novel that in effect calls for violent overthrow of the United States government, extermination of all Jews, “race-mixers” and others, and the establishment of an entirely Aryan society. The Turner Diaries has been the inspiration for numerous acts of white supremacist and other radical violence, including Timothy McVeigh’s deadly 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

After his time at the Alliance, de Nugent spent most of the 1980s collaborating with other white nationalists on a variety of projects. He worked with former SS member Hans Schmidt on a “German heritage” project. From 1987 to 1989, he helped raise money for an anti-Semitic lobbyist organization, the once-powerful Liberty Lobby, which was located in Washington, D.C., and run by noted Holocaust denier Willis Carto. The end of the decade saw de Nugent relocating to Louisiana to “study” the 1989 election of former Klan leader David Duke as a state representative.

De Nugent has also contributed numerous articles to and served as an associate editor of The Barnes Review, an anti-Semitic journal started by Carto and dedicated to Holocaust denial and other racist conspiracy theories. De Nugent’s writing for the journal has covered a range of topics, from a 2013 article on the 1066 conquest of Anglo-Saxon England by the Normans (which, he claims, resulted in Jews being sent to England from France) to an interview with Spanish fascist Pedro Varela in 2006. The article for which he is best known, “Psychopaths in History” (published in 2006), is a derivative “analysis” of the role of psychopathic individuals in world history.

In 2009, de Nugent achieved some media notoriety after appearing on various news networks responding to the murder of a security guard in an apparent planned rampage at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum by neo-Nazi James von Brunn. De Nugent, who spoke by phone to von Brunn several times in the weeks before the murder (he says he didn't know von Brunn, who called him), bemoaned the “bad PR” of the episode for the white nationalist community, which, he argued, was generally made up of responsible citizens. De Nugent, who described von Brunn as a genius, said he was "saddened" by the death of the "innocent security guard," given that the real enemy was Jewish people. 

In 1990, De Nugent ran for a congressional seat representing Tennessee’s 6th district. Although he lost badly, garnering only 26% of the vote, de Nugent alleges that he was the victim of massive electoral fraud. He describes the situation thusly:  “Any election where I run will see me start fast, get lots of initial support and then the Jews will initiate their massive media mega-24/7 counter-strike: TOTAL LAUGHING-STOCK CHARACTER DEFAMATION followed by MASSIVE ELECTRONIC VOTE FRAUD.” Despite these obstacles, de Nugent later vowed that he will one day win a presidential election, “by vote organized privately, of the original race conscious white Americans, who predate the USA going back to 1620 and indeed go back to the Solutreans in 20,000 BC.”

The “Solutreans” are a crucial component of de Nugent’s ideological perspective. He explains his racism with a convoluted theory about space aliens, “Reptilians” and intergalactic warfare. In his telling, true Aryans are descended from “Exonordic” aliens, a perfect race that is at war with the Reptilians. Other aliens (called “Grey Aliens”) are allied with the Jews, who the Grey Aliens are helping in their quest to achieve world domination. Or, as de Nugent puts it: “What we now understand is that our race colonized this earth, but was long ago separated by a cataclysmic nuclear war from the home planets. The stories of the gods reflect actual visits to earth by actual, highly evolved relatives of ourselves. The ‘ancient aliens’ theory being promoted now non-stop on TV (by the Jews who own the TV networks) is partly valid, but the Jewish media refuses to highlight the huge role of the Exonordics, and focuses instead on the Grays and the Reptilian species, because the Jews themselves are allied with THEM. Earth is just one battlefield of an ongoing war in our entire Milky Way galaxy between the Exonordics and the Reptilians.”

De Nugent’s solution to the Judeo-Grey Alien alliance is to move true Nordic white people into “White safety zones,” such as a region comprising Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia. De Nugent justifies this in part by arguing that these states are ancestral white lands, relying on a discredited theory that North America was initially inhabited, for over 10,000 years, by white Europeans who eventually were exterminated by American Indian tribes. De Nugent believes that his “Solutrean Solution” will restore proper ownership to lands that rightfully belong to white Europeans.

None of this does not make him a white supremacist, de Nugent argues. In fact, he claims, other races are the ones who actually believe in the superiority of the white race: “I see black, brown and yellow ‘white supremacists.’ I see immigrants all moving voluntarily to white countries, to every white country around the world, and to only white countries. They literally crawl through the desert, climb into sweltering metal shipping containers, and paddle rafts and little boats, all to try to enter any white nation they can. … I advocate that Third World peoples should instead love, and feel pride in, their own races and fix their own social problems, not import them here. I am glad if Finland or America, England, France or Australia, help suffering Third World countries. But if they bring us their violence, drugs, crime, hate, anti-white racism and white supremacism [sic] to us, these ‘guests’ have worn out their welcome.”

Convinced that the Jews are the greatest threat to the white race, de Nugent welcomes an alliance with black nationalist groups. Jews (and other groups) want to exterminate both groups, de Nugent argues, so it is only logical that they develop an alliance: “Your only ally in the times ahead, ironically, will be white people, the white people of the Eternal Solutrean Agency. Together we can beat the psychopaths in our own separate races, and the threat that Jews, Chinese and Mexicans pose to us both. If we whites lose you BLACKS will be their NEXT breakfast. I’m just ‘keeping it real.’ Can you handle it?” De Nugent does believe there are innate differences between races (higher IQ in whites, enhanced athletic ability in African Americans), adding that “blacks themselves believe (correctly) that they are different from whites.”

Furthermore, according to de Nugent, the Jews had a long history of interfering in the political organizations of the African-American community and committing violent acts against its members. It was the Jews that organized the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr,, ran the NAACP through the 1960s, and introduced crack-cocaine into the black community in the 1980s, he claims.

De Nugent’s reputation on the white supremacist scene ranges from the heroic to the insane. Commenter “Arya Dharma,” posting in 2008 on the white nationalist Stormfront forum, described him as “a brilliant, charismatic, and extremely articulate White man who I and many others see as the very best opportunity we’ve had in decades to support someone who will represent our movement in an intelligent, positive and highly attractive way.” The “pro-White, pro-South, pro-Independence” website Occidental Dissent, however, begs to differ, referring to de Nugent as a “crackpot” who “believes he is the reincarnation of Adolf Hitler.” Likewise, Holocaust denier Carlos Whitlock Porter devotes numerous pages of his website to discrediting De Nugent, calling him a “lunatic” and a “con artist” and heaping vitriol on him for his stance on alliances with the black community.
