Ebony publishes SPLC report on violence against transgender women of color

In the wake of the stabbing death of a transgender woman of color in Philadelphia this week, Ebony magazine has published online an SPLC report examining how transgender women of color may be America’s most victimized minority.

In the wake of the stabbing death of a transgender woman of color in Philadelphia this week, Ebony magazine has published online an SPLC report examining the brutal – and often deadly – violence faced by transgender women of color.

SPLC writer Don Terry examined violence against transgender women of color for the upcoming summer issue of Intelligence Report magazine. The report found that while an SPLC analysis of federal hate crime data shows that LGBT people are more victimized than any other minority, transgender women of color face the worst victimization of all.

Even before the stabbing of London Chanel this week, the first two months of 2015 saw at least seven transgender women of color – almost one a week – murdered. The report can be read at Ebony.com here.
