No need for Speaker Boehner to put the brakes on immigration reform

On Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner said there is not enough time remaining in 2013 to debate and pass immigration reform. It is almost as if the speaker believes his congressional colleagues cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. Members of Congress are not one-trick ponies, however, and Congress is capable of fixing the broken immigration system in the coming months.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”  Immigration policy reform is clearly taking a long time, but the question is whether Congress’ efforts are bending towards justice. We call on Speaker Boehner and the House to pass immigration reform that protects workers, keeps families together, and strengthens our economy.
