Worldwide Asset Purchasing v. Daisy Pruett
Daisy Pruett was already struggling to provide for herself and two children when a judge signed an order allowing Worldwide Asset Purchasing,a debt collector, to begin garnishing a quarter of her $600 biweekly paycheck.
The SPLC and Legal Services of Alabama took her case before the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, which reversed the lower court’s decision. The reversal confirmed an important provision of the Alabama Constitution that protects the paychecks of those with minimal income and prevents creditors from pushing them into a position where they cannot provide for themselves or their families.
