SPLC Asks CNN to Remove Dobbs

As regular readers of this blog know, we’ve had a tangle or two with CNN’s in-house immigrant-basher, Lou Dobbs. In 2007, we had a major dustup with the host of “Lou Dobbs Tonight” over his wholly false claim that 7,000 new cases of leprosy had appeared in a recent three-year period in the United States, due at least in part to immigrants. (The reality was that about 400 new cases appeared during the period, and it’s not known if any of them were linked to immigrants.) The battle subjected Dobbs a series of humiliations, including being described by The New York Times as a man with “a somewhat flexible relationship with reality.”

To the surprise of very few familiar with Dobbs, the CNN host is at it again. Now, he’s joined with the conspiracy nuts pushing the wholly unsubstantiated claim that Barack Obama was not born in the United States, and therefore cannot legally hold the office of president. The fact that this claim has been disproved by CNN’s own reporters seems to mean nothing at all to Dobbs, who has come in for criticism in recent days from all kinds of quarters for joining hands with the “birthers.”

Today, Richard Cohen, president of the Southern Poverty Law Center, sent a letter to CNN President Jonathan Klein asking for action. “Respectable news organizations should not employ reporters willing to peddle racist conspiracy theories and false propaganda,” Cohen concludes in his letter. “It’s time for CNN to remove Mr. Dobbs from the airwaves.”

Cohen also wrote Klein in 2007 about Dobbs’ leprosy claims, but CNN took no action. Dobbs has also promoted a series of other falsehoods and conspiracy theories about immigrants.

    Praise the SPLC for asking CNN to remove the lie vomiting host everyone loves to bash–Lou Dobbsy. Even if CNN doesn’t remove Dobbsy. At least keeping the pressure on them will do over a period of time some damaging interference, eventually, they will start to hear the legions scream for the usurpation of Lou Dobbsy. CNN is quite stubborn on this subject. But if Glen Beck was removed previously, then so can Lou Dobbsy.
    Then he can go over and join his suckbuddy–Bill O’Reilly on FAUXnews Network.

    As hateful and mean-spirited as Lou Dobbs and all the other hate-talkers are, they are covered by the First Amendment. It is up to readers and listeners to evaluate information they get from “entertainers” posing as journalists very, very carefully. The best way to defeat Lou Dobbs is to not watch him. No entertainer can last long if he/she has no audience.

    Whoa! “Mauka,” who links to lawyer/dentist/real estate agent Orly Taitz (no joke), needs to do some serious legal research on the meaning of “natural born citizen.” Or, just take a passing glance at the 14th Amendment. Anyone born in the United States is a citizen, irrespective of the citizenship of his or her parents. That’s basic constitutional law.

    If Ms. Taitz is making that argument in federal court she may want to familiarize herself Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.

    It’s funny that the SPLC believes it needs to “tussle” with Lou Dobbs over a mistatement he made concerning leprosy. Maybe you should “tussle” with Obama for saying that 10,000 people were killed in a tornado in the midwest – when, in fact, there were only a few casualties in a town of 10,000. Or how about when he said that he’d campaigned in every one of the 57 states.

    But on to the point of this blog entry – Why won’t Obama produce his birth certificate? Why has he spent ove $800,000 to fight having to produce it?

    If Lou Dobbs is removed due to the demands of splc and other pro-open borders groups, Americans will lose more freedoms– as it is, the mainstream media, such as the New york times, is slanted as far to the left as it can go. Americans who speak out against illegal immigration are all branded as racist xenophobes and are constantly being shut down when they try to speak out.

    Contrary to the wing-ding’s argument, say if Old man John McCain were our president. He doesn’t qualify to be our president. As stated in the U.S. Constitution Article II Section I reads in part–
    “No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen at the time of adoption of this Constitution…: should be eligible for the office of the president.”

    So heretofore, Barack Obama was already a “natural born citizen” at the time of adoption of the Constitution as stated therein.

    John McCain on the other hand, was born in 1936 on a U.S. Military base in the Panama Canal Zone, which btw, isn’t within the U.S. territory, hence as the Constitution notes.
    I suggest the wing-nutz better lay off their METH pipes and start reading the U.S. Constitution.

    I have been fed up to my neck with The Honorable Lou Dobbs, Hannity. He will do an outstanding job on FOX. He is already in the hen house and eating eggs that belongs to others. No. really just remove him.

    I started turning the channel from CNN When Fox Dobbs comes on CNN. He is really a joke and should have been removed a long, long, time ago. I guarantee you that he will not have a problem finding a job.

    He is 900 percent qualified for FOX, and everybody knows it. I love his mile but I hate to see him on CNN or any other channel except FOX. Please allow him to go home.

    With regard to my comment, above, I should have quoted the specific language of the Fourteenth Amendment – Section 1 to be precise:

    “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

    The “natural born” language in Article II, Section I, refers to the fact the president has to be a human being, rather than, say, a corporation, partnership or other entity, which, under the law, also can be “citizens” of the United States; it has nothing whatsoever to do with one’s parentage.

    Lou Dobbs doesn’t represent CNN’s views he represents his OWN views and he is granted that from our Constitution. Just because you don’t like what he says regardless of whether it is the truth or not doesn’t mean he should be fired (or whether you can’t handle the truth).

    I would bet money you didn’t write a letter to the head of NBC regarding David Letterman and his sick joke about Sarah Palin’s 14 year old daughter did ya?

    Leave Lou Dobbs alone. Obama isn’t an American and shouldn’t be president. The SPLC should be put on the “hate list”. Since Dobbs is white it’s ok to hate him. They only attack whites (of course that’s not racist). I find it funny that the senate questioned McCain’s citizenship, but to ask the same of Obama is racist. When I served in the military it was to defend all Americans rights to question their government. I guess I was wrong, thanks SPLC and all the racists who support them.

    As far as wanting Dobbs fired for giving some credence to the Obama citizenship issue, thats just sad. Whats wrong with a debate on the issue? There are some legit questions involved…

    …Obama could end this once and for all by releasing a more credible birth document, one that shows which Hawaii hospital he was born in, who the attending physician was, etc. He has not done this.
    The Kenyan ambassador says that plans to build a shrine to Obama’s birthplace-in Kenya- are in development…
    …this issue matters because the Constitution matters- all of it.

    If he was born in Kenya, US law at the time would not allow his mom to convey to him US citizenship- she was too young, vs. her residency, to do so……

    To digress- Dobbs wife is Mexican, or of Mexican descent. I dont think hes racist, at least hes not opposed to her, or her being in the US (for now, lol)

    Uh, the Senate didn’t question John McCain’s citizenship. The Senate passed a unanimous resolution stating that McCain was a natural born citizen and therefore qualified to be president. By the way, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were among the five co-sponsors of that resolution.

Blacks and Hispanics are not embracing the long tradition of military service and sacrifice, but yet they want to remind everyone of their struggles.

    Enjoy our times, because we are declining, Russia and China just this week are having military maneuvers together; we are ripe to have asses snatched up by those two powers. We are always talking about race; Karl Marx was right when he said we will defeat ourselves.

    I am so glad you wrote a letter to CNN i thought i was the only one that thought his comments were totally uncalled for and irresponsible. Being someone of dual citizenship I personally have felt the pain of being racially profiled by these crazy people as not being a citizen. Even when i have the original birthcertificate to prove it. For him to continue to promote this on mainstreet media is truly a shadow on CNN’s reputation. I dont watch that channel anymore. I have no more documentation than the president does as do many millions of legal american. It is an insult to all of us. Lou dobbs can promote his crap on this radio show but to promote it on a Network that claims their reporting “is keeping them honest” is hypocritical and unbiased. News should not be biased it to show the facts. This citizenship questioning is neither.

    The main problem, and Dobb’s has been consistent in speaking out about this, is that SPLC and others insist on blurring the distinction between legal and illegal immigration, and therefore summarize their criticicisms under the all inclusive “Anti-immigrant” category. This is not honest, to put it bluntly. It does not move the debate over legal or illegal immigration, or hate-prevention, forward. The New York Times, since you mention it, in particular its editorial board, has done as much as anyone to nuture this folly, in addition suggesting that fringe element hate groups are representative of the broader group of conservative Amercans, that racial inuendo and hate are the basis for supporting immigration law enforcement, and that the right is blatantly anti-immigrant.
    These are gross distortions. SPLC would do better to explore its own motives and agenda in perpetuating such stereotypes, lest it squander whatever respect in holds with reasonable people everywhere.

    It is possible to talk about race without being racist. My view is that the people who have generally been the beneficiaries of racism interpret the advances in civil rights to this point sufficient and are quick to villify any attempt to show bigotry is alive and well by brushing the facts aside as an attempt to “play the race card.”

    I simply turn the channel away from CNN and watch something else. Moreover CNN is my main news source until Mr. Lou Dobbs comes on with his well?

    Dobbs has a constitutional right to expresss his opinion. The birth certificate issue is byzantine- the Kenyan ambassador says Kenya will construct a shrine on Obama’s birthsite in Kenya. Obama’s Kenyan grandmother says she was in the deliveryroom and assisted the birth of Obama-in Kenya. Obama has spent millions of dollars resisting legal discovery, regarding the release of any of his school records, which might show the receipt of foreign student aid (an active cover-up?)…wheres the real long form birth certificate, or copy thereof?

    .If any one criticizes Obama or raises the birth issue, he’s often accused of being racist. Yet most Republicans would welcome a conservative black in the White House.

    Obama’s arrogance and disregard for the law will severely damage the nation.

    News should report facts, not conspiracy theories, period. CNN is a private corporation and they have every right to fire Dobbs if he does not report facts, particularly just DAYS after someone hired to fill in for him on HIS OWN SHOW provided proof debunking the “birther” conspiracy theories, that is statements from the Governor of Hawaii, the State Secretary of Health Services, not to mention annoucements of Barack Obama’s birth in TWO major newspapers in Hawaii from that date. If someone screws up at their job, they get fired. Dobbs is supposed to report facts, he has had ample access to them, and he chose not only to continue reporting lies but lied and claimed that the “questions” about Obama’s birth were “never answered”. In other words, he screwed up, and it would be right to fire his ass.

    Anyone can call a newspaper to have a birth reported. Thats what Obama mom apparently did. A few sentences in a newspaper or two does not close the case. In 1961, a mothers overwhelming motivation might be to have a foreign birth reported as happening on US soil.

    When you read the transcript…you see that the gov. and health director of Hawaii specifically did not mention what country his birth certificate came from- they took pains to avoid saying which one it was.

    the citizenship issue is real, its a legit story, stop trying to muzzle the first amendment., drop your infatuation for Obama.

    There is a huge difference between pointing out the fact that there are groups and extremists that still keep the Obama residency controversy alive and actually initiating the story.
    Dobbs pointing out the fact that the story is still alive is in fact very appealing and falls under the category of responsible journalism. Accusing him of initiating the story is wrong on your part. You and Bill O’Reilly completely sidestepped the idea of pointing out that fine line while you were busy kissing each other’s ass.
    Why can’t you publish your e-mail address on your site? What are you hiding from?
    Where were you when Olberman was going through HIS antics during the election?
    Dobbs isn’t the one seeking ratings and publicity. You are.

    Lou is right we need to do the following.

    1. Enforce 1986 IRS and Immigration Laws.

    2. E-verify for all employment.

    3. Strict enforcement on Student visa’s.

    4. No State/Federal social programs for all illegal families including medical care, daycard, public school enrollment or colleges. Pay as you go. No public housing..

    5. Change US constitution if Parent is illegal child is not a citizen unless one parent is a US citizen.

    6. Deputize all Law Enforcement to arrest detain and deport all illegals parents and children.

    7. Change all laws so illegal immigrants that are injured or killed and are not insured cannot sue or collect back wages, medical benifits etc.

    8. In the 1950 we paid informants to turn in communists why not do the same by paying people for turning in companies that abuse system.

    9. Send all people that aid illegal citizens with false documents seize their property, send them to jail.

    remember this is not about discrimination. We have people form Russia, Poland, Romania, arab countries, China, Korea, Mexican, Central America and South America. I am all for anyone with a skill america needs to be allowed to immigrate here. Yes we are a society of immigrants but we have laws rules like anywhere else. Let me try to go to work in China, Russia, Poland or Mexico with a college degree and wanted job skills and watch how quickly they will put me in jail. Why don’t we do the same???? European countries do, Canada do. Arab countries may kill you.

    President Obama can close this issue by furnishing a certified long form birth certificate….I believe he is an American citizen. I believe he just doesn’t want the country to see what religion his mother put down on the birth certificate…back then religion was listed. Now what religion do you think his mother, who was married to two Muslim men, put down….Islam. I also believe that is why his college transcripts aren’t available….religion was listed back then.

It is equally idiotic to act as though the health director and governor would speak on the subject of the birth certificate, and not specify what country it was from. They were specifically speaking in support of the position that Obama was born in Hawaii. Imagine this exchange:

    A. Was “so-and-so born in America? Was he born in your state?”

    B. I have seen his birth certificate…yes.

    A. BUT WHAT COUNTRY IS THE CERTIFICATE FROM?

    B. You’re a moron, go away.

    You see David, it’s called CONTEXT. If someone is trying to assert that X was born in the state of Y, and they speak about his birth certificate as proof, there is no reason to specify that the certificate was from that country- since that was essentially the main question.

    And get ready for this real shocker David- I don’t have an infatuation with Obama. I didn’t vote for him, I didn’t support him, and I am not impressed by anything he has done or did. And yet still, your little theories are completely idiotic.

Contradictory evidence is explained as being fabricated; a malice scheme, for some unknown reason, is posited as precisely what happened, without any proof. Ridiculous for normal people, par for the course amongst conspiracy nuts.

    If the governor and state health director contradict the claim, then they are part of the conspiracy. The judges who refuse to hear lawsuits, part of the conspiracy. All the Republicans and their pundits who don’t support the theory, part of the conspiracy. No amount of evidence otherwise, and no lack of evidence on their side will convince them that their theory is false.

    The best one I had heard was a Canadian debate between the “911-Truthers” and a man from the International Association of Explosive Engineers” (ISEE). The 911 conspiracy fellow was an Architect & the ISEE fellow was a explosive engineer with a doctorate in chemistry. The conspiracy guy got torn to bits & it was a good debate. {Well it was a good lesson on how to loose a debate.}
    But the significant issue was that the conspiracy fellow kept on getting OFF TOPIC….
    Here we have an issue of Dobbs’ having said things on national television that had proven to be false & affect the way a group of people are portrayed to the public, etc. To really understand an issue – it’s important to stay on topic.

    The sad truth is that people want to believe Dobbs and Fox news (and I use the term news lightly). People who want to hate are going to find a reason. My ex-inlaws use the term “dirty democrates”. Everytime my 15 year old son comes back from a vist with them, I feel the need to de-program him. I have told them that there are certin words and phrases they are not to use in front of my child. Who knew I’d have to add dead Presidents to the list. I’ve kept them from seeing my son before and I’ll do it again if they forget my rules. They laughed and told me Obama would never live to take the oath of office. Racism may actually be worse than it was in the 60′s because it’s subversive. They’re not quiet as vocal but they’re still the same. If I knew what the SPLC knew, I probably couldn’t sleep at night. Hence, the citizenship of President Obabma’s father is of no consequence in any argument about his being a “natural born” citizen since he was unquestionably born in Hawaii, and the evidence is clear on that point. Oh, and Hawaii is a part of the United States, so it is redundant and unnecessary to impugn an offical of the State of Hawaii to have to declare the country of birth when they have alrady declared the STATE of birth.

    And for those who theorize that President Obama is actually triing to hide what religion was put down on his birth certificate by his mother, what difference would that possibly make? For one thing, not all jurisdictions required that information. And even if they did, it has no bearing on the religion he actually practices or declares now. And it shouldn’t matter anyway, since religion is not a criteria for any public office, nor should it be.

Being an American citizen by birth would convey to you enormous benefit, while being born a third world citizen in 1961 would hurt, compared to being a US born citizen. The psychology is obvious.     If this was not an issue then why does Obama have a team of lawyers that intercept all attempts to get documentation about his birth, his attendance at certain universities (which would show if he attended on a foreign student visa), and many other documents.

    It thus clearly appears that by the law of England for the last three centuries, beginning before the settlement of this country, and continuing to the present day, aliens, while residing in the dominions possessed by the crown of England, were within the allegiance, the obedience, the faith or loyalty, the protection, the power, and the jurisdiction of the English sovereign; and therefore every child born in England of alien parents was a natural-born subject, unless the child of an ambassador or other diplomatic agent of a foreign state, or of an alien enemy in hostile occupation of the place where the child was born. III. The same rule was in force in all the English colonies upon this continent down to the time of the Declaration of Independence, and in the United States afterwards, and continued to prevail under the constitution as originally established.

    We are a nation of laws, and the laws are clear, no matter what spin the ‘birthers’ might like to put on the facts. Mr. Obama is a natural born citizen within the commonly held legal view, and is in fact OUR President.

    I was under the understanding that Barack Obama’s mom was an American – a Dunham in fact. Is that incorrect? Wait a minute . . . do you mean to tell me that a woman who is an American citizen can not give birth overseas and have that child be an American citizen?

    Okay, if that is so we need to keep all women who are citizens from leaving this country till they hit menopause or are sterilized. The risk to their child’s future is too great if they should happen to give birth someplace other than in the US and then come back to this country. The way ICE handles immigrants, legal or otherwise – no one should risk a future like that for their child.

    I’ve spent 8 to 14 hours a day for eight months, along with thousands of dollars I don’t have, sold some of my belongings and gone through hell just trying to get a friend who was picked up by ICE a chance to prove his case that he would be tortured and killed if they deported him back to his country of origin – just to get him a little justice. I know what lies in wait for anyone who is not a citizen in this country.

    We can’t have our women risking putting their children through what my friend is going through. We need to close our borders going out of the country – no more American women of childbearing age allowed out for any reason!

    You think I’m kidding? Well yeah, it’s ridiculous, but these crazy conspiracy nuts may have something beyond loosing the Presidency in mind for Obama. I know of a man who was not a citizen, was here legally, who is locked up awaiting deportation because he had a little pot. You admit to using drugs and you aren’t a citizen – you’re deportable. Obama admitted he’d once smoked pot. If he weren’t a citizen he’d not only not be eligible to be the President – he’d be deported the way ICE is doing things these days.

    Lou Dobbs is detestable, but maybe he’s performing a public service – keeping us reminded of the dangers to our greatness as a nation if we aren’t careful – that there are people out there that would dismantle the Statue of Liberty and all she stands for if they had their way. We must be ever vigilant to preserve and protect our freedoms. Lou Dobbs on the air reminds us by example.

    Obama and his supporters are helping to create this issue- by not insisting that the primary document be released to the general public. A presidential executive order can override any Hawaiian law.

The primary document still exists, and only two or three people have been allowed to see it, its not “online”. Obama could end most of this right now by acting appropiately…He can issue an executive order and release the document to the general public.     I have to add to the discussion about the “birthers” and make an important distinction between the two different types of birthers.

    The first and most problematic are the ones like Dobbs and the Republicans who do know better and are using the same tactics they used to go to wars, pass the Patriot Act, rile the masses into being afraid of death panels instead of having a fair discussion on health care. They KNOW they truth and distort and LIE to get what they want. I think that they are guilty of treason.

    The other birthers are people who are ignorant and believe the authority figures who are lying to them. It is hard to understand how people can be so ignorant, but they are. Some even think that they are doing “research” on the internet to prove they are right. Of course they don’t know HOW to do proper research and do find LOTS of sites claiming what they keep hearing. My neighbor is a lay birther. He REALLY doesn’t understand how the world works. He isn’t stupid either. He’s just woefully ignorant of almost everything that could help him come to a good judgment. I tried to explain the truth, and he was willing to listen to me respectfully. He is still not sure he can believe me because I am just his neighbor. In my argument to him I am battling Fox, CNN, Republican leadership, his friends and his preacher. It sure would be easier if it was only his friends and preacher.

    I love this argument. Of who or what is citizen of the US. I am a college professor, yes, just like Mr Obama, and a minority, just like Obama, but this is where I part company from this man that is too vague and elisive for my comfort. I grew up wanting to be a “Muck Raker” when I first learned about these reporter heroes of the days when America stood for laws and citizens who obeye them. I grew up believing that breaking laws was not good for our country or the people. Thanks to politicians like Cheney, Obama and others, breaking the law now seems to be the acceptable norm, much like the later days before the Roman Empire fell. IF Mr Obama is a LEGAL citizen, in my book, he has not shown me enough to prove it. And, I quote, from legal resources, “We need your daughter’s county stamped full birthcertificate before we an issue a US passport so your daughter can leave the US and travel to Japan. What was my mistake? I had sent the US Department of Passports, my daughter’s Ceritificate of live birth that showed the same info as OBama’s and even her birth picture. According to this department of the US government, “a certificate of live birth is not a legal document to get a US Passport. So, unless Obama shows me his real long typed long form Birth Certificate, he is a fake American, so says the US government. One more thing, Obama took a full year before he registered for the Draft, so he broke the law by not registering. One more thing, if Obama was born in Hawaii in before 1958 (when Hawaii was NOT a state), then he is not a US citizen just like people who are born in the Domincan Republic a holding of the US, like Hawaii was when Obama was born, which according to Obama was not 1961 but 1957. SO, from my newspaper type research, this man is an immigrant, sorry, but facts are facts, and America has been robbed yet, another law breaker. But heck, America is now made up of students who cheat in school, people who lie on their taxes, people who cheat on their partners, people who lie to their God, People who want to make America an Un-Christian nation, and a government that serves the ones with the most money and anyone who is willing to buy a politician’s vote, and a court system that favors law breaking illegal immigrants who come to America to destroy her. I figure America will be dead by the year 2020. Sorry, but if history taught me anything in college, it’s that history does repeat itself. We are another Rome, that is headed to the end.

    You are either lying or had the most stupid bureaucrat in America. My daughter and I both have birth certificates that were original. Mine, which was hand written has all kinds of info on it. My daughters doesn’t even have her time of birth. These certificates were 24 years apart and in different states. Now, both of us have ordered and received the Certificate of Live Birth that we have needed for official stuff like our passports, school, etc. I keep the originals in a safe deposit box. I cannot ever get a copy of the original as they have all been destroyed and the pertinent info computerized. ( Do we really need to record my mothers “profession” as a homemaker?) When you order birth certificates today, You get a certificate of live birth. I know this not only from my personal experience, but it is my job to help my clients obtain theirs for official govt. business.
    I was not, and none of my passport carrying friends have EVER been asked for a “birth picture”. Also, we never had “official birth pictures” taken. This is just plain silliness.

    Lastly, If you are a college professor, you are painfully ignorant of your country and its citizens. I guess you only took one history class that missed a few bits. The Dominican Republic was once briefly occupied by the US, but was never a territory or other “holding” of the US. Puerto Rico, however is. Puerto Ricans, as were Hawaiians for over 100 years have been and are full legal citizens. In case you don’t remember even the historical movies about Pearl Harbor, We considered the island US soil. It’s citizens were US citizens.

    BTW, My Puerto Rican born father in law was stationed in Hawaii as he served as a Lt. Col. in the US Air Force. You gonna tell him he’s not a real citizen too?
