Statement of Ashton Jefferson, student

Hello, my name is Ashton. I am 10 years old. This year I will be going into the fifth grade. Math is my favorite subject. I am a part of this case because I want to help schools respect all students. Right now, schools are not doing good things for many students. In the future they might care for students.  At my school, I felt sad a lot because they sometimes didn’t treat me right.

My teachers thought I was too active and different from the rest of the children because it was hard for me to stay in my seat.  They put me in a room by myself where it was lonely and there was nothing to do. It felt like child abuse.

I think the rules are backwards because they focus on putting kids out of school instead of helping kids stay in school.  I hope the schools will change someday.

Thank you for listening.
