Texas Gun Instructor Crockett Keller Will Train Muslims

By Leah Nelson on November 8, 2011 - 12:21 pm, Posted in Anti-Muslim

A Texas handgun safety instructor who declared in a radio advertisement (first reported by Hatewatch on Oct. 27) that he would not teach non-Christian Arabs, Muslims, Obama voters, or “socialist liberals” won’t lose his state-issued license, the Austin American-Statesman reports.

Instructor Crockett Keller made national news with an ad proclaiming, “If you are a socialist liberal and/or voted for the current campaigner-in-chief, please do not take this class. You have already proven that you cannot make a knowledgeable and prudent decision as required under the law. Also, if you are a non-Christian Arab or Muslim, I will not teach you the class. Once again, with no shame, I am Crockett Keller. Thank you and God Bless America.”

Following an investigation and warning by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Keller has agreed not to refuse clients based on national origin, race or religion.

Liberals and Obama voters, presumably, will still not be welcome. As Keller explained to Hatewatch in an Oct. 27 interview, “I have a particular philosophy about concealed carry. I take it very seriously. I wish people took voting as seriously as I do concealed carry. The way I feel about it, the people that voted for the campaigner-in-chief, they had a year and a half to vet him. … Now we’re three years into his presidency and we still don’t know anything about him.

“My point is in the concealed carry world, when you carry a weapon to defend yourself you have to make a life and death decision in a matter of seconds. … How am I supposed to take someone who admittedly took a year and a half to get the wrong answer in determining who they want for president?”

The Arizona shootings earlier this year have shown how dangerous one concealed Glock can be. While Keller is a fool, the notion of civilians carrying concealed arms, regardless of ideology, is a threat to public safety.

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

Maybe this is really late, but as I remember this guy trains people for CCW licenses, which means hand guns. I for one am skeptical of the efficacy of an Islamic insurgent army causing serious trouble with concealed Glocks.

  • Erika

Sam, I admit that I know next to nothing about guns, but I suspect that many of Elmer Fudd’s actions were not exactly safe – to start with the fact that he accidentially shot himself with his own gun several times. In fact, I think you could make a reasonable argument that the classic Warner Brothers cartoons were practically anti-gun propaganda since you could not come up with a better argument that gun owners use guns to substitute for their “shortcomings” in other areas than Yosemite Sam.

I do like your point that a Moslem probably should not trust this guy to train them. And I’m not sure if anyone realy should trust this guy to teach them safety.

Tyrone, leaving aside your alarming anti-Erika prejustice, its always been the law that the government cannot discriminate against people based on religion. Its in the Constitution and everything. Texas issued a license to Keller – if Keller wants to keep his license, he has to follow state law including antidiscrimination laws. Texas also cannot legally license a person they know is violating state and federal law.

Keller would have been perfectly within his right to continue to offer his firearm classes in a discriminatory manner – but Texas could not have legally licensed him. It was therefore in his commercial interest to comply with the law so he could be legally licensed by the state of Texas – but nothing actually forced him to comply with the law.

Ruslan my guess is that the terrorist training camp is somewhere in that dark smelly hole along with Dick’s head!

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

I think you ought to read this:

Then you’ll find better things to do with that 20 hours of free time. To be honest I can’t see much of a difference between you and conservatives. For one, you equate Russia with Iran and North Korea. For one thing, North Korea has much cleaner streets than Russia, with far less dead people on them. But really- it sounds like some conservative who forgot that the USSR broke up. And “love it or leave it?” come on, that is pure conservatism.

  • Beverly Kurtin

Okay, some of you, get ready to hate my guts. I am a very proud liberal who voted for one of the best men who ever ran for president: President Obama. I am working about 20 hours a week to assure his reelection. His has been the cleanest administration that I can recall and age 70 I can remember many presidents and their troubles. Nixon was the all-time chump. One of my favorites was Harry Truman; he was a plain talking man who said what he meant.

Contrary to what the bigot gun instructor, Keller, I made a very careful decision when I voted for Mr. Obama. I heard him speak during the 2004 Democratic convention. I had recorded that speech and still have it archived. He really made an impression with me and I said to my sister, “That man is going to be president someday and I’m going to work for him.”

I am not a Christian, but I do know by reading the Christian book that Jesus was a flaming liberal and probably a socialist to boot. He was a highly educated Jewish scholar and knew the Hebrew scriptures intimately. He quoted Hebrew scripture when he was asked what the greatest commandment was: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and all your resources and love your neighbor as yourself.

Liberals, Christian or not, love their neighbors and get disturbed when their neighbor is in need. Liberals don’t just sit on their haunches and shake their heads as do Conservatives. Conservatives say, I have MINE: Do not touch it. I did everything by myself and I’m going to keep it and if someone else has a need, well, that is THEIR problem.

I can’t and won’t live like that. I live with my sister and her adult daughter. Primarily, we did that to save money but also so we can pool our money to help those who need a hand up at times. The concept of this is MINE and you can’t have any of it just doesn’t make sense to me. My sister and I are on Social Security yet we both have more than we really need, so we contribute to organizations who we feel deserve what little we can share. That includes, the Southern Poverty Law Center.

For the individual who doesn’t seem to like “Merika,” may I suggest you find another country where you might feel more comfortable? Perhaps North Korea or maybe Iran perhaps Russia? I am certain that there are people who would help you leave this country for one you think is better. As for me, this country is not perfect, but it is the best country on the face of this planet.

  • Sam Molloy

Wait a minute… Is he going to tell them to look into the barrel and pull the trigger to see if it’s loaded? Just wondering..

  • tyrone mixon

I don’t think that’s fair to force someone to do something…..but I forget, this is Merika.

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

Dick, where is the evidence of these terrorist training camps? We’ve debunked these claims dozens of times, with another poster actually looking up the coordinates on Google Earth. It’s put up or shut up time.

  • Dick Lancaster

Keller would have been better served to offer his services to any number of Muslim terrorist training camps in the US. He could ban Christians, Jews and women and no one would dare threaten his license.

  • J Carlson

    What a tool.

  • SAS

How about a better option ? Stop teaching people to shoot guns in the first place to make the world safer ?

As the Bible says, turning swords into plowshares……

  • Andre C.

Well it should be obvious that Mr. Keller figured out “oops” I better clean this up cause I could loose my license, which in turn could make him loose money from teaching class. If he makes poor verbal decisions in mixed company, just imagine what kind of verbal decisions he makes behind closed doors. People who plan to attend his class, please make an informed decision.

  • RockyMissouri

Perhaps Mr. Keller should forfeit his privileges….since he lacks control of his mouth…….

  • Sam Molloy

Erika, I think Elmer fudd always acted responsibly with firearms. Yosemite Sam, not so much. The cops blocking the street in E.T.? Their firearms were later morphed into radios with computer imagery so our kids won’t see all those evil guns.

  • Jack Wolford

I ran into something similar in NC where policeman, NRA instructor and someone in the Chief’s office had all agreed that a firearm is not allowed on any church or synagogue that has a Sunday ” School “. – which effectively eliminates any black churches from having an armed security detail that protects their members. It was all baloney and the NRA Legal Department, NC Attorney Generals Office cleaned it right up and I’m told one lost his job. They inforce the Law , but their own Law which they make up.

  • Erika

Give Mr. Keller a break – he only wants to assure that Texas has responsible gun owners who act in totally responsible manners – like Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd.

    What a maroon!

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

We don’t know anything about the President? What are we supposed to know that we don’t about this guy. From the look of his I’d say we know plenty about the president.

  • Shadow Wolf

The reason for Mr. Crockett’s ignorance about the current “Campaigner-in-Chief”, was simply traced straigt from his chewing tobacco stained mouth:

“they had a year to vet him….Now we’re three years into his presidency and we still don’t know anything about him.”

Mr. Crockett had 3 years to know the president. I guess some feeble minds are not programmed to learn anything else, other than another Repug. Hence their gross ignorance.

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

Freedom means choosing the candidate Keller supports, apparently.

  • CM

“Mr. Keller will most likely pose as a victim of ‘political correctness.'”

No doubt about that, seeing as how he’s already posing as a patriot despite his obvious determination to destroy the electoral process:

“How am I supposed to take someone who admittedly took a year and a half to get the wrong answer [i.e., not the one Crockett agrees with] in determining who they want for president?”

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

In all seriousness here, I think the down side to this is that instead of coming out and saying “I’m sorry, I was acting ignorant and I should do better to inform myself,” Mr. Keller will most likely pose as a victim of “political correctness.”

  • Gregory

Oh well, that clears everything up. /snark

    What an idiot.

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

Crockett Keller is also not a millionaire, proving, by conservative standards, that he made poor economic choices in life.

  • Ruslan Amirkhanov

Mr. Keller, I applaud you for toning down the ignorance on Muslims. Now while I have never been an Obama supporter, perhaps you can explain the benefits of choosing McCain, since this is so important to you.

  • Mitch Beales

So if someone advertised an apartment for rent and said no African Americans, Hispanics, or Jews Texas would be OK with that as long as they “agreed not to refuse clients based on national origin, race or religion”? That’s ridiculous. Texas should revoke his license. If you’ve seen photos of Crockett Keller you can see that he has made poor decisions about what to eat his entire life. How can he be trusted to “to make a life and death decision in a matter of seconds”?

  • ModerateMike

I don’t know whether Hatewatch pressed Mr. Keller to give some specific details as far as the correlation between the desire to correct perceived injustices in society (such as a health care system that bankrupts people) and an inability to recognize when one’s life is in danger; it would be interesting to hear his remarks.

  • Mule Breath

I suppose the only way to get the correct answer is to be one of the biggots who wrote the test.
